Omega's Rebirth-Chapter 524: Dead To Her ()
~The Eclipse Palace, Heart Of The Eclipse Domain
Alessio’s eyes fluttered open, awakened by the first streaks of daylight that seeped through the curtains.
The only sign that Alessio was awake was the fact that his eyes were now open, other than this, he did not move or attempt to get up to his feet, he just laid on the bed, perfectly still and unmoving.
Alessio’s gaze was fixed on the ceiling, there was hardly any emotion reflected in his eyes, just a dazed look, even his forest green orbs were dull and dim.
There was a glassy sheen in his eyes, a tell of the unshed tears gathered... tears Alessio had forgotten how to shed.
It was another morning, waking up feeling just the same as he had the night before... the same chilling cold feeling that had laid claim to his heart for every night without fail in the past year.
Finding sleep had gotten increasingly harder, and when he did find sleep, waking up to reality again was dreadful.
How long had it been now since Neveah had been taken away from the Eclipse Domain? Two years? It had been about that long, perhaps longer...Alessio had lost count.
Keeping a count of the passing days proved more difficult, more excruciating as the days went by... keeping count of the days since he had lost the second half of his soul.
In the beginning, Alessio looked forwards to the nights when she haunted his dreams, hateful as her gaze was, at least she would come to him...at least she would still visit his dreams.
A figment of his imagination, a representation of his desires, whatever it was, Alessio had looked forward to it and found comfort in it.
In those visits, she was his and Alessio could delude himself that she walked his dreams because far apart as they were, he was still a constant thought on her mind.
As long as she kept him in her heart, then she would grace his dreams and only then could Alessio find the coming days bearable.
But as time went on, her visits grew fewer, sparse... and now, it had been almost a good number of months now since she had last graced his dreams.
Alessio had tried time and time again to reach her through their bond, as much pain as he knew his attempts would cause her, it would always remind her of him.
But in this past year, Alessio had been unable to reach Neveah through their bond, hard as he tried.
Karan had used every spell in the book, till he had grown tired of Alessio and adamantly refused to be involved further.
Alessio had sought out other means, just how many witches and warlocks had Alessio consulted this past year? Yet it was to no avail.
Like their bond had been completely severed, he could not reach out to Neveah, her presence on the other end of their soul link was completely gone.
At one point, Alessio wondered if Neveah still lived? But deep down, Alessio knew she did live... she lived, it was Alessio himself who was dead to her.
Alessio tilted his head to the side, glancing around the dreadfully small quarters that had once belonged to Neveah.
Alessio had come here every night for the past year seeking some sort of comfort, in traces of her scent left on the things she had touched, her clothing... anything that could ease the hollow feeling in his heart.
At first, coming here had helped. The comfort and rest of mind the Alpha King’s quarters could not provide him, he had found here and so he had kept on coming.
Alessio could not remember the last time he had spent the night in his own quarters, he practically lived here now... amongst the last traces of his beloved.
Alessio had done everything to retain her traces, he had ordered that no one was allowed into these quarters, nothing of Neveah’s was to be touched, not even the cleaners were granted access.
The more people came in, the harder it was to pick out Neveah’s scent from amongst them, so Alessio had outlawed all visits to the entire side palace in which Neveah’s quarters was.
But as surely as the days went by, Neveah’s scent faded away...a little more everyday, till there was nothing left and all that this room was, was an old, dusty room.
Alessio had still held onto his hope, he had not stopped coming down here in hopes that he would catch even a glimpse of Neveah in his dreams, but it had been almost a year now, and Neveah had not graced his dreams even once.
She had completely and absolutely forgotten about him, and the thought of it shattered Alessio’s heart as surely as it filled his veins with burning rage.
All who had a hand in taking Neveah away from him, Alessio would never forgive them...his father, his mother, dragon kind...none would escape his wrath.
This burning need for vengeance was all that Alessio lived for now, it was the very reason he went to bed at night and awakened every morning, it was the very reason he took every painful breath he did.
"My King! News from the battle front, our forces have laid siege to the Southern territory granting refuge to the Lothaire Raul." Lado’s voice reached Alessio through the pack link.
"And Lothaire?" Alessio thought back as he got up to his feet.
"He will put up a fight, but he has no route of escape this time, he is out of all options and no other pack would dare aid him. I believe he will have no choice but to surrender." Lado reported with conviction.
"I have waited an entire year for this... finish it and bring him to me." Alessio ordered.
Alessio shut off his link, walking over to Neveah’s desk... where Alessio knew she would always sit and study through tales of far off lands, in the few moments she would get a moment to do as she pleased.
Alessio trailed a hand over the desk.
"I have a very precious gift for you, my beloved and I am preparing another... I have done this much, you would not turn me away, would you?" Alessio murmured, his eyes going closed.
