Chapter 525: New Lesson (Ch.526)

Alessio watched thoughtfully as Karan examined the unconscious Eira, just as he had for every day of the past year.

Karan took his time, quietly murmuring spells as he performed what had now become a routine examination.

An examination that had never provided Alessio the answers he was seeking, yet Alessio would not give up.

Dead or alive, Eira was an incomparable treasure to Alessio, but alive... alive would mean so much more, not for Alessio himself but for Neveah for whom this gift was intended.

"How is it? How is she?" Alessio asked when Karan finally stood still at a place and stopped his circling.

"Much the same as she was yesterday... everyday, she shows a stable improvement, ever so slight, almost insignificant. But this much is not enough to ensure that lifting the spell will be safe." Karan said with a shake of his head.

"As I have told you, there is only one way to recover her consciousness enough for her to have any chance of living. Without the two factors I required, my hands are tied." Karan reminded Alessio.

"I will get them to you...my forces will apprehend my father soon, and you will have one of your requirements." Alessio assured Karan.

"You speak only of one... how about the other? The woman who is your mate?" Karan asked, fixing Alessio with a pointed look.

"It will be prove a little more difficult... I shall require some incentive. Convincing enough that she will be unable to refuse me." Alessio murmured, his brows furrowed slightly.

"Whatever you plan to do, do it quick. There will get to a time when saving this woman will no longer be a possibility." Karan warned.

"I will do my part, Karan. And what of yours, have you been able to figure out a method to lift the spell?" Alessio asked Karan.

"I have...but there a few details that I will need to sort out. For this, I must return home for a time." Karan informed Alessio.

"To witch territory? You were banished, Karan. How do you hope to keep your life?" Alessio asked with a raised brow.

"Are you concerned for my life? Or the fact that my death would mean I am unable to resurrect your trump card?" Karan asked blankly.

Alessio did not respond, his gaze turning ugly.

"I find myself intrigued by this spell, Alessio. Do not fret, I am not going for you... and since I am only helping you to satisfy my own curiosity, I surely have my ways to travel undetected." Karan said dismissively.

"How long will you be gone, then?" Alessio asked Karan.

"A few months. In this time, you must ensure both of my requirements are ready upon my return. It has been a year already and I am not the most patient man." Karan made his stance clear.

"Very well. Do what you need to, but remember that if you fail to return and fulfill your end of the bargain... I will find you, and make you pay." Alessio vowed in a deadly tone.

Karan scoffed audibly, saying nothing in response, he strode away, taking his leave from Alessio’s presence.

Alessio stared in silence at Eira for a long time, not for the first time, he marvelled at the uncanny resemblance between mother and daughter, as well as the obvious differences between them.

"You are all I have now... I fear I will have to be more cautious in Karan’s absence. I know you must have gotten used to this... place, in your long stay, but I have prepared somewhere better..." Alessio murmured in a quiet tone.

______________

Alessio walked down the halls of the Eclipse Palace, heading for the audience hall, and he had not gone so far when the ground beneath his feet began to tremble violently.

Alessio was thrown off his feet before he could find stability and he went tumbling to the ground, it was only that he did not actually make impact with the ground.

Instead, Alessio was sucked right through it and tossed out in rapid sequence.

Alessio slammed into a tree, before crashing down to the ground with a quiet grunt of pain and a deadly look in his eyes.

Alessio slowly lifted his gaze, unsurprised to find himself staring at three familiar faces.

"Raven guards..." Alessio hissed, very much familiar with his father’s witch blooded bounty hunters.

"Prince Alessio." One of the raven guards clad in a black cloak greeted, inclining his head to a small bow of respect.

Alessio scoffed beneath his breath at the mock show of respect and got up to his feet.

He had wondered exactly why his father was yet to put the Raven guards to use, Alessio realized now that Lothaire had only been waiting until he was out of all other options... waiting till Alessio believed victory was in his hands.

"I am Alpha King now, spare me the forced pleasantries... what does my father want?" Alessio asked with a raised brow, his eyes narrowed and glowing lightly, the presence of his wolf on the surface.

"Alessio Terran Lothaire, your father has tried multiple times to reach an understanding with you, but you have proven quite... difficult to convince." The raven guard continued in a formal tone.

"My father made certain I was not an easy man in any regard. What can I say? Lessons I have learnt are hard to shake off." Alessio replied with a casual shrug.

"Then you will find that your father always has a new lesson to teach, young one." The Raven guard replied with a sneer.

Alessio knew what was coming and so he lunged first, shifting mid air, he tackled down the Raven guard closest to him, his powerful jaws going straight for his throat.

In one hard chomp, Alessio ended his life, just before a dazed feeling dawned over him, and black spots danced along his vision.

"Damned witches." Alessio thought, and in the next moment, he blacked out.
