On Our Wedding Day My Husband Announced His First Love Online-Chapter 127: Latched Onto
I couldn’t help but get a headache. I had no idea how my older brother found out I was pregnant.
My aunt, on the other hand, was fussing over me, her face beaming. "You silly girl, how could you hide something as big as a pregnancy from us! This is wonderful news..."
"How many months along are you? Why aren’t you showing yet? This won’t do. I’ll go to the market later and buy you a nice, old hen to make some soup. You’re pregnant now, so you have to keep your nutrition up."
"Don’t be so stubborn with your brother. Would he ever do anything to harm you? Just hurry up and remarry Theodore Grant. I can see he still cares about you a lot. That’s why he caused such a scene today..."
Hearing my aunt’s words grow more and more absurd, I cut her off helplessly. "Aunt, please stop. I’m not going to remarry Theodore Grant."
My aunt was taken aback. "Then your baby..."
"I’m going to have it, and I’ll raise the baby on my own."
My aunt grew anxious at once. "You silly girl! What nonsense are you talking about? How could you possibly raise a child well by yourself? A woman without a man is like a fish out of water. She can’t survive."
My lips parted subconsciously, but before I could say anything, my brother chimed in, "That’s right, Aunt is correct. Chelsea, stop being so stubborn. Just hurry up and remarry Theodore Grant. It’ll also stop him from constantly harassing us!"
"I said, I am not remarrying him!" I declared, my voice firm.
"It’s not up to you!" my brother snorted. "Now that Mom and Dad are gone, you have to listen to me!"
I laughed, infuriated. "And why should I listen to you?"
"Because I’m your older brother!"
"You—"
But before I could finish, my aunt quickly grabbed my arm. "Alright, alright, stop fighting with your brother. He’s just looking out for you. You have to be careful with the baby in your belly. What if you get too upset?"
My aunt was trying to play peacemaker, but from my perspective, she was clearly taking sides. Every word she said was in my brother’s favor.
But I knew my aunt had always been this way. Ever since we were kids, regardless of who was right or wrong, she always sided with my brother.
"In any case, I will not remarry him," I said coldly, then turned and walked toward the door.
Right now, I couldn’t stand being in this house any longer.
At least, I wouldn’t have any peace and quiet until my aunt and her family left.
But just as I grabbed my car keys to leave, my aunt hurried after me. "Chelsea, I happened to run into your Senior Forrest at the door this morning, so I gave him Sasha’s resume. When you have a moment, could you talk to him about it? Get him to let Sasha start work as soon as possible. It’s not good for a young woman like her to just stay at home playing on her phone all day."
I couldn’t help but take a deep breath. Remembering what Sebastian Forrest had told me before, I used it to put her off. "Once the resume is submitted, she just has to wait for a notification from the company’s HR department."
My aunt nodded repeatedly. "Okay, okay, good. That’s good."
"So, when are you all planning to go back home?"
My aunt smiled. "We came this time with no plans to go back."
"What?" I was stunned. "Then where are you going to live?"
"Well, I see this house is so big and spacious, and it must be lonely for you living all by yourself. Plus, you’re pregnant now, so it’s the perfect time for me to move in and take care of you..." My aunt said it as if it were the most natural thing in the world.
"But this isn’t my house..."
"It doesn’t matter if it’s rented. I can help you with the housework, cooking, and all that. Besides, it’s not safe for a young woman to live alone in the city. It’s always a good thing to have family looking out for you."
I pressed my lips together, feeling my frustration grow.
My aunt had clearly said she was only staying for one night...
But now she’d changed her story and wanted to live with me.
And from the looks of it, her whole family was planning to move in!
’They’re determined to freeload off me!’
...
My phone started ringing just as I got out of the house.
When I saw the caller ID, I felt a wave of relief, like I’d found my anchor. I quickly answered the call.
"Chelsea, sweetie! I’m back from my business trip. Did you miss me?" Chloe’s cheerful voice chirped from the other end.
I felt tears welling up in my eyes. Chloe’s return couldn’t have been more timely.
"Chloe, you’re finally back..."
"Hahaha, I knew you missed me! I bought you tons of snacks and fun stuff. I’ll bring them over in a bit..."
"Don’t worry about it. Where are you now? I’ll come to you."
"Come over to my place."
"Okay, I’m on my way."
「Half an hour later」
I pulled up to Chloe Miller’s place.
The moment she opened the door, Chloe Miller pulled me into a huge hug.
"What’s wrong? You don’t look too happy. Who’s been giving you a hard time?"
I had to admire Chloe’s perceptiveness; she could tell just by looking at me.
I told Chloe everything that had happened today from start to finish, only leaving out the part where Sebastian Forrest confessed his feelings to me. 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚
"Oh, silly Chelsea. It’s easier to invite a guest than to get them to leave! You never should have let your aunt’s family stay over in the first place! And now look, they’re determined to freeload off you!" Chloe poked my forehead. "They really aren’t kidding about ’pregnancy brain.’ How could you agree to something like that?"
"Tell me about it." I pouted, dejected. "I didn’t think my aunt would deliberately lie to me..."
"And your brother has obviously been bought off by Theodore Grant."
I nodded quickly. "That’s what I think, too."
Chloe gave me a teasing look. "See? You’re not so dumb after all!"
My face fell. "Oh, stop teasing me. I’m worried sick about this."
"There’s basically no easy solution, unless you’re willing to go all out and disown your aunt and her family..." Chloe said, holding up her hands.
I sighed. "I know..."
And that was the very reason this whole situation was giving me such a headache.
Chloe patted my shoulder, not quite sure how to comfort me either.
"If it comes down to it, I’ll just move back to my old apartment and give this house back to Senior Forrest."
I pressed my lips together. ’After Sebastian Forrest’s sudden confession today, I definitely can’t keep living here anyway...’
’This is the perfect opportunity to move back out.’
"Are you sure your aunt and her family won’t just follow you there?"
"It’s a two-bedroom apartment. Even if they followed me, where would they sleep?"
Chloe gave me a ’you’re so naive’ look. "You have no idea how shameless people can be..."
"Think about it. Things are so expensive in Kington. Renting a two-bedroom apartment costs at least five thousand, and that’s for a place in a bad neighborhood. For a place in your old apartment’s location, it’d be at least eight thousand. Not to mention, if they live with you, they’ll probably save on all three meals. Only an idiot wouldn’t take a deal that good..."
I couldn’t help but sigh.
"So, there you have it. Your aunt and her family are like superglue. You’re not getting rid of them!"
