On Our Wedding Day My Husband Announced His First Love Online-Chapter 152: Chelsea Joyce Is Not Your Daughter
Compared to my initial panic, I was much calmer now. But I was still nervous enough to glance pleadingly at Sebastian Forrest beside me.
Sebastian Forrest let out a soft chuckle and lifted his chin slightly, his posture lazy and relaxed.
But it was as if this was all the encouragement I needed. I turned to meet Mrs. Miller’s gaze, my lips parting slightly. "Mom, I missed you so much..."
I don’t know if it was because the word ’Mom’ made me think of my own mother, or for some other reason, but my eyes began to well up, and a lump formed in my throat.
Mrs. Miller, on the other hand, completely lost her composure, pulling me into a hug and bursting into uncontrollable sobs.
As she cried, she poured out years of longing for her youngest daughter. Her words brought tears to my own eyes, and for a moment, it felt as if I truly were her child.
"Okay, Mom, that’s enough. Finding my little sister is a good thing, so you can’t keep crying. Look, you’re making her cry too..." Jude Miller quickly tried to soothe her.
Mrs. Miller quickly looked up. Seeing my tear-streaked face, she reached out to wipe my tears away. "Nia, don’t cry. Mommy will stop crying, too. Let’s both stop, okay?"
That’s when I realized I’d gotten far too into character. I felt a flush of embarrassment as I wiped away my own tears.
’I was supposed to be here to ease Mrs. Miller’s grief, and now I’m crying harder than she is...’
"You brat, you finally believe me now, don’t you?" Mrs. Miller said, linking her arm with mine as she started up the stairs. She glanced back to glare at Jude Miller, who was following us.
"I told you! How could I possibly mistake the daughter I carried for ten months? But you refused to believe me, insisting on waiting all these days to bring my Nia home..."
Jude Miller took the scolding with repeated nods. "Yes, yes, you’re right, Mom. It’s all my fault."
It was only then that Mrs. Miller seemed to notice Sebastian Forrest, who had been following us up the stairs. She blinked in confusion. "Sebastian? Why did you come up too? I want to have a private chat with my sweet girl. You and Jude should go find something to do."
But a smile played on Sebastian Forrest’s lips. "Auntie, I’m your daughter’s husband."
He then pointed at me. "This is my wife."
Jude Miller frantically shot him a look, trying to get him to stop talking, and I glared at him too, silently telling him to shut his mouth.
Mrs. Miller was stunned for a moment. "You... you married my Nia?"
"Mhm." Sebastian Forrest nodded with a grin, looking as smug as he possibly could.
Jude Miller buried his head in his hands, a look of ’we’re doomed’ on his face.
"Well, that’s not bad at all!" Mrs. Miller nodded, looking extremely pleased. "I suppose Sebastian is barely worthy of our Nia..."
’Barely worthy...’
I let out a dry laugh. As the ’person in question,’ I could feel my face flush with heat.
Sebastian Forrest, on the other hand, just smirked and nodded in agreement. "That’s not wrong. I’m the only one who is a match for my wife. No one else comes close."
Mrs. Miller nodded along. "That’s right! No one else will do!"
But just then, a voice laced with shock and disbelief rang out from behind us. "Sebastian, the person you announced you married on your social media feed... wasn’t that Lena Leighton?"
I spun around instinctively and saw Claire Miller standing a short distance away, a look of utter disbelief on her face. Her eyes were fixed on Sebastian Forrest, as if demanding an answer.
"Claire..." Mrs. Miller glanced at Claire Miller, then turned her confused gaze back to me. Her thoughts seemed to be in disarray, and her eyes went vacant.
Seeing the color drain from Mrs. Miller’s face, Jude Miller’s expression darkened. He snapped at Claire Miller, "Claire Miller, what nonsense are you spouting? Get out!"
"Brother, you’re yelling at me!" Claire Miller cried, shaking her head. "I’m your sister! How can you yell at me for some outsider!"
"My Nia is not an outsider!" Mrs. Miller shook her head frantically. She looked like she was on the verge of a breakdown. "She’s my daughter! The daughter I carried for ten months! How could she possibly be an outsider?"
"Mom, that’s Chelsea Joyce! How could she be your daughter? You’ve definitely got the wrong person!" Claire Miller said with a frown.
"Claire Miller, shut your fucking mouth!" Jude Miller roared.
"No, she’s..." Mrs. Miller shook her head instinctively, but the mounting stress was making her thoughts a jumbled mess.
"My daughter... No, that’s not right. My daughter is dead..."
Seeing her state, the color drained from Jude Miller’s face. "Mom, calm down, just listen to me..."
But Mrs. Miller was past listening. "My Nia... no, not Nia... My poor, ill-fated daughter..."
After a series of incoherent mutters, Mrs. Miller’s body suddenly went limp. As she started to fall down the stairs, I lunged forward to grab her.
However, the force of her fall was more than I expected. I lost my balance instantly and went tumbling down with her.
Just when I thought I was about to tumble down the stairs, a pair of strong arms suddenly wrapped around me, stopping my fall.
"Are you okay?"
I turned my head instinctively to meet Sebastian Forrest’s anxious, concerned gaze.
I was still in shock, but I ignored his question and quickly turned to look for Mrs. Miller.
Jude Miller was holding Mrs. Miller in his arms. Her face was ashen.
Claire Miller had clearly snapped back to reality and realized what a mess she’d caused. "B-Brother... I... I didn’t mean to. I didn’t know Mom would..."
But before she could finish, Jude Miller scooped Mrs. Miller into his arms and strode toward the exit, tossing a single threat over his shoulder. "Claire Miller, if anything happens to Mom, you just wait!"
Watching Jude Miller leave, I felt a tightness in my chest. I was incredibly worried about Mrs. Miller.
’After years of suffering from the grief of losing her daughter, her mental state was already so fragile. And now she had to endure a shock like this...’ 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖
"I... I didn’t do it on purpose..." Claire Miller stood frozen in place, her face a mask of panic, repeating the same phrase over and over. "I really didn’t mean to. I was just telling the truth..."
"You tactless fool!"
Sebastian Forrest’s voice was cold as he spoke. "I never knew it was possible to be this stupid."
"Sebastian..." Claire Miller turned to him, her face a mask of shock, as if she couldn’t believe her ears. "Are... are you talking to me?"
"What about it?" Sebastian Forrest sneered. "Do you see anyone else here who deserves to be called ’stupid’?!"
The color drained from Claire Miller’s face. Her lips moved, but she was utterly speechless.
Having said his piece, Sebastian Forrest didn’t spare her another glance. He turned to me, his expression full of concern. "Are you alright? Were you scared?"
"I’m fine..." I shook my head quickly. "Let’s go check on Mrs. Miller. I’m really worried about her..."
Sebastian Forrest nodded and gently stroked my hair. "Okay, I’ll take you."
Just then, Claire Miller seemed to realize something too and rushed out the door. A moment later, a red sports car sped away from the Miller residence ahead of us.
’She must be heading to the hospital too.’
’So she has a conscience after all.’
