On Our Wedding Day My Husband Announced His First Love Online-Chapter 164: The Thing Sebastian Forrest Has Been Hiding
After leaving the office, I clutched my car keys but didn’t go down to the underground parking garage right away. Instead, I paced back and forth at the company’s entrance.
It was almost the end of the workday, but everyone in the company was still busy at their desks, their faces all grim.
’I didn’t know what was happening, but I had a feeling it had something to do with Sebastian Forrest’s father...’
’The hammer had fallen.’
’I just didn’t know how much it would affect Sebastian Forrest.’
Time ticked by. I don’t know how long I was there before a large hand suddenly gripped my shoulder and pulled me to the side. I instinctively turned and met Sebastian Forrest’s smiling dark eyes. "What are you thinking about? You almost walked into the wall."
I ignored his teasing tone and quickly asked, "How did it go? Is everything sorted out?"
"Who’s your husband? Is there any problem in the world that could possibly stump me?"
I shot him an annoyed glare. "Don’t be so arrogant..."
Even though Sebastian Forrest said everything was "fine," I was still worried. I walked on, lost in my own anxious thoughts.
Meanwhile, Sebastian Forrest stayed by my side, constantly watching my step. He’d even kick away any small pebbles in my path.
Once we were in the car, Sebastian Forrest fastened my seatbelt for me before finally saying, "I know what you’re worried about..."
I instinctively looked at him.
Sebastian Forrest’s lips curled, his dark eyes holding a brazen confidence I hadn’t seen in a long time. "I saw today’s events coming a mile away, so I had a few tricks up my sleeve. Don’t worry, everything will be fine."
"Really?"
Sebastian Forrest gently brushed my cheek with his thumb. "Why would I lie to you?"
I was only half-convinced, but then I remembered that Eugene Forrest and Sebastian Forrest were father and son, after all. Even if he wanted to teach him a lesson, he wouldn’t go too far.
"By the way, haven’t you been wanting steak? I had some air-freighted from overseas today. I’ll make it for you when we get home."
The moment he mentioned food, I perked right up and nodded eagerly. "Okay."
...
After a busy half-month, the voice-over project for the overseas company was finally complete.
Next was the client’s review and approval phase.
Since we’d been swamped for the better part of a month, I gave my colleagues two days off as soon as the project was done. They had all worked hard, and they deserved a good rest.
During this time, however, it was Sebastian Forrest who got busy. He used to spend his free time hunting down all sorts of delicacies and cooking creative meals for me, but lately, he’d mostly just been taking me out to eat.
And halfway through every meal, he would inevitably get several calls, making it impossible to eat in peace.
Knowing Sebastian Forrest was busy, I didn’t want to disturb him. I just left him a message saying I was going to the hospital to see my older brother and drove over by myself.
After half a month of treatment, my brother’s condition had clearly stabilized a lot. At least he no longer had violent outbursts where he would smash things.
I was four months pregnant now, and my belly was starting to show a noticeable bump. But since it was winter and I’d been choosing loose, baggy clothes, it wasn’t very obvious.
The sun was brilliant today. I sat on a lounge chair, sunbathing with my brother.
Just as I was drifting off to sleep, I heard someone push open the door and walk in.
At first, I thought it was one of the hospital caregivers and paid it no mind. But when I caught a faint, almost imperceptible scent of mint, my eyes snapped open, and I instinctively looked back.
"Theodore Grant?"
I shot up from the lounge chair, staring in utter disbelief at Theodore Grant, who had suddenly appeared in the room. "What are you doing here?"
I hadn’t seen him in a while. Theodore Grant was much thinner than before, and he looked dark and sullen.
"I had some free time today, so I thought I’d come by for a visit."
As he spoke, he glanced at my brother, who was still off to the side, absorbed in playing with a set of building blocks. "Your brother looks a lot better. It seems he really likes the block set I bought for him."
"You bought this?" My brows furrowed, and my heart clenched.
I had noticed a few days ago that my brother was playing with a new set of blocks, but I’d just assumed one of the hospital caregivers had gotten it for him...
’I never would have guessed it was Theodore Grant!’
’So this wasn’t his first time visiting my brother?’
’Why didn’t I know?!’
"Theodore Grant, what are you really after?" I glared at him, on full alert.
"I don’t have any ulterior motives. I just came to visit." Theodore Grant chuckled. "Chelsea, don’t be so tense."
’How could I not be tense?’
’Sebastian Forrest arranged this place, yet Theodore Grant comes and goes as he pleases, and he can even do it without Sebastian Forrest finding out...’
’That thought alone was terrifying enough!’
"Stop with the phony act! You’re the one who did this to my brother!" I demanded sharply, my hand reaching into my pocket for my phone to call Sebastian Forrest.
"What’s this? Trying to call Sebastian Forrest?"
But Theodore Grant was a step ahead. He grabbed my wrist and pulled my phone right out of my pocket. "He’s already drowning in trouble. I doubt he can spare a moment for you..."
"Give me back my phone!"
Theodore Grant chuckled and tossed my phone straight into a nearby fish tank.
"Theodore Grant! What are you doing!"
I watched helplessly as the screen went dark, then spun around to glare at him.
But Theodore Grant just smirked, leisurely sat down on the sofa, and looked up at me. "How’s Sebastian Forrest doing lately? Has he solved his little problem yet?"
I couldn’t help but frown. "What problem?"
Theodore Grant looked startled for a moment, then suddenly broke into a smile. "Looks like he didn’t tell you!"
"Half a month ago, someone reported that his research products were suspected of plagiarism. What’s more, all of them have been recalled..."
My heart seized. I suddenly remembered that it was half a month ago that Sebastian Forrest had started getting so busy.
’So that’s what it was?’
’Plagiarism and fraud?!’
’For a research project, that’s practically a fatal blow!’
’Was it Eugene Forrest’s doing?’
’But why would he do something like this?’
’How could he...’
’How dare he!’
’Doesn’t he know how devastating a blow this would be to Sebastian Forrest?!’
A wave of anguish washed over me. My heart felt as if it were being squeezed by an invisible hand, the pain so intense I could hardly breathe.
"It seems Sebastian Forrest really did keep you in the dark."
Theodore Grant smirked, but his smile held no warmth, only a kind of gleeful satisfaction. "If the product is confirmed to be fraudulent and plagiarized, he’ll be facing more than just astronomical penalties for breach of contract. I’m afraid he’ll never be able to set foot in the research world again!"
’Half a month...’
’And I didn’t know anything.’
’Completely oblivious...’
