Chapter 67: Chapter 67: Who Is Sebastian Forrest? Would He Take Theodore Grant’s Sloppy Seconds?

Hearing his words, a sense of relief washed over me. ’He’s probably giving up.’ But that relief was immediately followed by a subtle, bitter pang.

I forced the feeling down. ’I did the right thing. Given my current situation, what does it matter how much Sebastian Forrest likes me? The Forrest Family would never approve. Even the Grant Family is no match for a family as prominent as the Forrests. No matter what, it would never be my place.’

’So if I were to dive in headfirst, counting on his affection for me, I’d be a complete fool... I’ve already been a fool once. I’m not about to make the same mistake again.’

’Making a clean break now is the only way to avoid unnecessary trouble down the line.’

...

Since I was on bed rest for the pregnancy, I had already taken time off from work. I slept in until I woke up naturally.

Just as I was washing up, there was a knock at the door.

I quickly dried my face and went to open it, only to find Sebastian Forrest standing there, holding two large bags.

"Senior Forrest? What’s all this...?"

Sebastian Forrest dangled the two large bags of groceries in front of me. "Didn’t I say I’d make you braised baby goat legs sometime? I happened to be free today..."

I quickly stepped aside to let him in. I was surprised he’d even remembered; I had just assumed he was being polite!

Watching Sebastian Forrest expertly tie on an apron and get to work in the kitchen, I felt too awkward to just lie in bed waiting. I pulled up a chair, sat by the kitchen doorway, and chatted with him to keep him company.

Just then, my phone, which was on the dining table, suddenly started vibrating.

I quickly got up to get it, but I froze for a second when I saw the caller ID: Vincent Lombard.

Ever since I’d married into the Grant Family, Vincent Lombard had either made things difficult for me with his snide remarks or acted as if I didn’t exist. He certainly had never called me himself.

’I wondered if hell had frozen over.’

"Hello..."

But before I could say a word, Vincent Lombard’s furious voice erupted from the phone. "Chelsea Joyce! Was it you who put Sebastian Forrest up to shutting down my horse ranch?!"

His words left me stunned. I had no idea what he was talking about.

But Vincent Lombard just kept screaming insults. "You bitch! You really think latching onto Sebastian Forrest will turn you into some princess? Let me tell you, keep dreaming! Who do you think Sebastian Forrest is? You think he’d want Theodore Grant’s sloppy seconds?"

Listening to Vincent Lombard’s vile insults, I was trembling with rage.

"Are you insane? I have no idea what you’re talking about!"

"Stop pretending! My horse ranch was shut down first thing this morning. Are you telling me you didn’t put Sebastian Forrest up to it?"

"It wasn’t me."

"Still denying it, huh? I’m warning you, if you really piss me off, I’ll make you regret it! I—"

Just then, Sebastian Forrest suddenly reached out and took the phone from me. His jaw was tense, and his eyes were cold. "Hello..."

But Vincent Lombard was clearly a classic bully; the moment he heard Sebastian’s voice, he scrambled to hang up.

"Are you okay?" Seeing how furious I was, Sebastian Forrest frowned slightly. "A man like that isn’t worth your anger..."

I took a deep breath, trying to calm myself down.

Sebastian turned, poured a glass of water, and handed it to me.

"Thank you." I quickly took it and had a sip before looking up at him. "About that horse ranch Vincent Lombard mentioned..."

"Yes. It was me."

My jaw dropped in astonishment.

A moment ago I’d thought Vincent Lombard was just having an early morning meltdown. I never imagined it was really Sebastian...

"Why?" I asked, once I’d recovered from the shock. "What did he do to offend you?"

"He’s the one who pushed you yesterday, wasn’t he?"

I pressed my lips together. ’I can’t believe Chloe Miller told him so quickly. She even told him about that.’

What I expected even less was that Sebastian would do this to get back at him for me.

A warmth spread through my chest. It would be a lie to say I wasn’t moved.

"Thank you."

Sebastian raised his hand and gently ruffled my hair. "I told you, you don’t have to be so formal with me."

"What’s that smell?" I sniffed the air.

"Oh no!" Sebastian’s expression changed, and he rushed back to the kitchen.

As I watched him frantically try to salvage things in the kitchen, I couldn’t help but chuckle. The anger from Vincent’s unwarranted tirade gradually faded away.

"By the way, Senior Forrest, do you know what Clara Langley’s ex-husband does for a living?"

Sebastian glanced up at me, a slight smile playing on his lips. "Why the sudden interest in him?"

"No reason. Just curious."

Sebastian chuckled but didn’t press the issue. He began to explain, "The Westwood Family made their fortune in perfumery. The business has been passed down in Europe for several hundred years, so they were once a very prominent family. But when it was William Westwood’s turn to take over, he backed the wrong side politically and was suppressed. That’s how the Westwood Family fell into decline..."

"Around that same time, William Westwood was in some kind of car accident that left him disabled and unable to walk properly. Clara Langley divorced him after that. I’m not sure why he’s suddenly come to Kington for treatment..."

At this, Sebastian looked up at me. "What is it? Have you found something out?"

I quickly shook my head. But knowing I would need to rely on Sebastian for this, I decided not to hide it from him. I took out the photo William Westwood had given me and handed it over. "William Westwood gave this to me."

"You’ve met him?" Sebastian frowned.

I nodded. "Yesterday, in the hospital’s underground parking garage. He approached me out of the blue and gave me this photo for no apparent reason."

Sebastian frowned in thought. "When did your older brother and Clara Langley meet?"

"I don’t know." I shook my head. "My brother never mentioned her to me."

"Then we need to find your brother and get a clear answer."

"But I can’t get in touch with him at all right now."

"Don’t worry. I’ll have someone find him." 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂

His words put me completely at ease.

’After all, in a place like Kington, there was no one he couldn’t find.’

Soon, a meal that looked and smelled incredible was served. The aroma alone was enough to make my mouth water.

"Try some. How is it? Better than Sage’s Tower?"

My mouth was so full I couldn’t speak, so I just gave him a big thumbs-up.

"Slow down, don’t choke."

A small smile on his lips, Sebastian handed me a glass of water. "I know how to make plenty of other dishes, too. I’ll make them all for you when I have time."

"Mhm!" I nodded eagerly.

Sebastian chuckled. "So, are you still planning to move? If you leave, you won’t get to enjoy such delicious food anymore..."

...

’I can’t believe he was laying a trap for me...’

’The only reason I’d wanted to move was to keep my distance from Sebastian before we crossed any lines. But now that he knows I’m pregnant with Theodore Grant’s child—and that I’m going to keep it—he’s sure to back off. There’s no need to worry about appearances anymore.’

"I’m not moving anymore." My eyes curved into crescents as I smiled at him. "As long as Senior Forrest doesn’t think I’m too much trouble."

The corners of Sebastian’s mouth lifted, but his smile was cryptic. "No trouble at all. It’s my pleasure."

"By the way," he said, his smile fading slightly as he changed the subject, "what were you doing at the Grant Family’s home today?"

I quickly explained my reason for visiting the Grant Family, my expression turning to one of frustration. "It’s a shame I couldn’t get into my mother-in-law’s room to check her medicine..."

But Sebastian’s expression grew pensive. "You said Clara Langley was also at the Grant Family’s home?"
