On Our Wedding Day My Husband Announced His First Love Online-Chapter 73: My Stomach Hurts So Much
"It was Holly Shaw, Mr. King’s daughter-in-law."
I couldn’t help but freeze, my head turning toward Sebastian Forrest almost instinctively.
Sebastian Forrest raised an eyebrow, clearly surprised as well.
"That can’t be right," I said, biting my lip as I tried to phrase it delicately. "Holly has always been so diligent and hardworking. Why would she do something like this?"
"Theodore Grant found the poison in her room. He had the doctors test it, and it’s the exact same type I was poisoned with." My mother-in-law sighed heavily. "Besides, Holly Shaw confessed to everything. She admitted she was the one who poisoned me..."
"But why would she poison you?"
"Her son is sick with leukemia. Mr. King borrowed money from me before—I lent him a hundred thousand—but I guess you give some people an inch and they take a mile..." My mother-in-law looked heartbroken. "I treated their family with nothing but kindness. How could this happen? ’You can know a person’s face, but you can never know their heart...’"
I exchanged a look with Sebastian Forrest. Just as I was about to speak, we heard the sound of hurried footsteps outside the hospital room. The next moment, Vincent Lombard pushed the door open, with Clara Langley following close behind him.
"Honey, you’re finally awake!" Vincent Lombard still had an excited look on his face as he burst in. However, his expression faded slightly when he saw Sebastian Forrest and me.
Still, he rushed to the bedside, pushing me aside to grasp my mother-in-law’s hand. "This is wonderful! Thank God you’re all right. You scared me to death!"
My mother-in-law seemed a bit uncomfortable with Vincent Lombard’s sudden attentiveness, but she still looked touched, thinking this was a case of true love being revealed in a crisis.
I, on the other hand, watched coldly from the sidelines. If I hadn’t just overheard Vincent Lombard and Clara Langley’s affair yesterday, I might have actually been moved by his display of deep concern.
Just then, Vincent Lombard’s tone shifted, and he said with a hateful expression, "Mr. King’s family is just a bunch of ingrates! To think they’d poison you for money! Honey, we can’t let people like that stay!"
But my mother-in-law was soft-hearted. Besides, the old butler had come with her when she married into the family. After nearly thirty years together, she saw him as family.
However, she had just been snatched back from the brink of death, and it was only natural for her to feel some lingering fear.
After all, as the saying goes: one act of betrayal means they can never be trusted again.
Just as my mother-in-law was torn, unsure of what to do, Sebastian Forrest suddenly spoke up, his tone lazy. "Mr. Lombard, how did you and Clara Langley end up coming here together?"
As soon as he said that, all eyes fell on Vincent Lombard and Clara Langley.
Clara Langley never expected Sebastian Forrest to suddenly call her out like that, and for a moment, she didn’t know how to react.
It was Vincent Lombard who pursed his lips and answered, "We happened to run into each other at the hospital entrance, so we came up together."
Hearing this, Clara Langley quickly nodded. "As soon as I heard you were awake, Ma’am, I rushed right over. I..."
But before she could finish, my mother-in-law cut her off coldly. "Get out!"
Clara Langley looked utterly incredulous. She shot a pleading look at Theodore Grant. "Theo, did I say something wrong? Please, help me explain to your mother so she won’t be angry..."
Theodore Grant’s brows furrowed. He hadn’t seemed to expect his mother to suddenly give Clara Langley a hard time. Still, he knew his mother had never liked Clara, so he stepped forward and said, "Mom, please calm down. The doctor said you can’t get agitated right now!"
But my mother-in-law shook off Theodore’s hand and pointed at Clara Langley. "She’s the one who came here and upset me! That’s what triggered the poison!"
Clara Langley was stunned. "Ma’am, when did I upset you? I came to visit you that day with the best of intentions..."
But my mother-in-law refused to listen, cutting her off coldly. "I’m not dead yet, and you’re already trying to marry into the Grant Family! Let me tell you, dream on!"
"Mom, don’t get worked up..." Theodore Grant rushed forward to help soothe her. Fearing her anger would make her condition worse, he shot a look at Clara Langley, his brow tightly furrowed, gesturing for her to leave.
But Clara Langley ignored him completely. She took a deep breath, as if she had suffered some great injustice. "Ma’am, I know you don’t like me, but Theodore and I are truly in love. And he’s already divorced Chelsea Joyce. Why can’t we be together?"
"I said no, and that’s final!" my mother-in-law declared righteously.
"But I’m pregnant with Theodore’s child. You can’t let our child be born without a father, can you?"
"What?!" My mother-in-law turned to Theodore Grant, her face a mask of disbelief.
Theodore Grant shot Clara Langley a furious glare. "What are you talking about? Get out now!"
"Theodore, is what she said true?" My mother-in-law grabbed his shirt, clutching it like a lifeline.
Theodore Grant pressed his lips together. After a moment of internal conflict, he finally nodded.
At his confirmation, my mother-in-law suddenly clutched her chest, her breathing growing ragged.
"Mom!" Theodore started to panic and yelled toward the door, "Get a doctor!"
Seeing the doctors rush in and crowd around my mother-in-law, I saw the small hospital room was becoming far too cramped. So, Sebastian Forrest and I stepped outside to wait.
Clara Langley was sitting on a bench outside the door. When she saw us come out, she looked up and said in a snide, mocking tone, "Well, well, Chelsea Joyce. What a move, bringing your new boyfriend to visit your ex-mother-in-law. I wonder what you’re really up to."
I might have been fine if Clara Langley had just kept her mouth shut, but the moment she spoke, my anger flared. I grabbed her by the collar and said coldly, "Did you just mention your pregnancy in front of his mother on purpose?"
Startled by my action, Clara Langley grabbed my wrist and shouted, "Chelsea Joyce, are you crazy? Let go of me!"
Just then, hearing the commotion, Theodore Grant and Vincent Lombard came out of the room.
"Chelsea Joyce, what are you doing?" Vincent Lombard rushed over at the sight, reaching out to grab my wrist.
But before he could touch me, Sebastian Forrest, who was standing beside me, quick as a flash, grabbed his hand and flung it aside.
"Let go of me!" A vicious glint flashed in Clara Langley’s eyes.
Almost at the same time, a sharp pain shot through my wrist. I instinctively let go, only to see several bloody scratches on the back of my hand where Clara Langley had dug her nails in!
Sebastian Forrest’s expression changed instantly. He seized Clara Langley’s arm, his face murderous.
"My stomach... my stomach hurts..." Clara suddenly cried out, clutching her abdomen.
Seeing this, Theodore Grant rushed forward and grabbed Sebastian Forrest’s shoulder. "Let go of her! She’s pregnant!"
"Pregnant?" Sebastian Forrest suddenly laughed, but his eyes were ice-cold. "You don’t even know whose kid she’s carrying, and you’re already so eager to be a cuckold!"
