Chapter 94: Chapter 94: Then Check the Surveillance, Call the Police

At these words, several executives grew anxious, and even the department manager looked troubled.

There was nothing to be done. Clara Langley was at the peak of her popularity. Not only had she announced a string of high-quality film and television projects, but she had also signed on as a brand ambassador for several high-end luxury brands. On top of that, news of her impending engagement to the president of Grant Group had already spread throughout Kington. To put it simply—Clara Langley was not someone they could afford to offend. 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖

"I’m sorry, Miss Langley. This is our fault. I..."

But before the executive could finish, I cut in. "Clara Langley tried to push me down the stairs first. There’s a security camera at the stairwell. You can check the footage."

Clara Langley, who had been playing the victim, couldn’t sit still after hearing that. "Don’t you dare make baseless accusations! I already said it wasn’t on purpose, but you just won’t let it go. You even pinned me against the railing and threatened to throw me over!"

Clara Langley immediately turned to the company executives. "Fine! If your company wants to play hardball, then let’s call the police. The security footage captured your whole assault anyway. It’ll make for perfect evidence!"

I wasn’t afraid of her in the slightest. I knew she was bluffing. "Then let’s watch the footage. Call the police," I said coldly.

"Chelsea Joyce!"

Just then, a company executive sharply cut me off. "What is this nonsense? Apologize to Miss Langley right now!"

"I did nothing wrong. Why should I apologize?"

"Do you still want to work at Wind-Whisper?"

I stared at him in disbelief. I never thought he would use this to threaten me. "President Lee..."

"I told you to apologize!"

Clara Langley watched me with a smug expression, her chin held high like a proud peacock, but the smile on her face was vicious and cruel.

Seeing my expression crumble piece by piece, she said pretentiously, "I’m a magnanimous person. If you apologize to me, I’ll pretend today never happened."

I looked coldly at the triumphant Clara Langley, my gaze sweeping over the assembled management. "I quit."

"Joyce..." The department manager looked at me nervously, signaling with his eyes for me not to be rash.

I knew that out of everyone in the room, only the manager genuinely wanted me to stay. But he held little sway and could barely protect himself, let alone me.

I looked away from him and immediately turned and walked out of the manager’s office.

A few colleagues who had gathered by the door, hoping to gossip, were startled when I came out. They awkwardly scurried back to their desks.

With a grim expression, I returned to my desk, found a plastic bin, and started packing my things.

Seeing what I was doing, my colleagues exchanged glances, but no one dared to come over and ask what was happening.

Since I hadn’t been with the company for long—not even for the full three-month probation period—I didn’t have many things. I finished packing quickly.

"Joyce?"

Just as I was about to head to the elevator with my box, someone called out to me from behind.

I instinctively looked back and saw Julian Hayes walking quickly toward me. He frowned slightly at the box in my hands. "You’re..."

"I quit."

Julian Hayes was startled for a moment, then gave a wry smile. "I figured as much..."

He didn’t ask why. Instead, he thoughtfully pressed the elevator button for me before turning to look at me. "What are your plans now? Are you going to apply to other companies?"

I pressed my lips together. ’I don’t want to go through something like this ever again.’

’Besides, if I’m just a low-level employee, there’s no guarantee Clara Langley won’t target and suppress me just like she did today.’

"I haven’t really thought about it yet."

Julian Hayes smiled. Seeing the elevator arrive, he reached out and took the box from me. "Well, let me know when you figure it out. Come on, I’ll give you a ride."

I had gotten a ride from Sebastian Forrest this morning, so I hadn’t driven. Seeing this, Julian Hayes put my things in his car and offered to take me home.

I couldn’t refuse his kind offer, so I could only thank him sincerely.

The office wasn’t far from my home, so we arrived downstairs in less than five minutes.

"Thanks, Hayes."

"It was nothing."

I instinctively reached for the box in Julian Hayes’s hands, but he moved it away. "This stuff is too heavy. How about I take it upstairs for you?"

"No, it’s fine, I can manage..."

But Julian Hayes insisted. "Come on, you don’t have to be so formal with me. Let’s go."

I was about to protest again, but just then, a large hand reached out from behind Julian Hayes, went right past him, and took the box from his grasp.

"Senior Forrest?"

I stared in surprise at Sebastian Forrest, who had returned at some point. "What are you doing back?"

Sebastian Forrest’s gaze swept coolly over Julian Hayes, his eyes narrowing slightly before he turned to me. "I heard about what happened at your company."

I blinked. ’I can’t believe he found out so quickly.’

’Then again,’ I mused, ’it makes sense. I’ve seen company presidents bowing and scraping before Sebastian Forrest. And since I’m more or less under his protection, it’s not surprising someone would report what happened to me.’

"Come on, let’s go upstairs and talk." Sebastian Forrest held the box with one arm and patted my shoulder with his other hand.

I nodded quickly and turned back to Julian Hayes. "Hayes, thanks for your help today. You should get back to work..."

Julian Hayes smiled at me. "Alright. We’ll talk some other time, then."

Seeing Julian Hayes turn and get into his car, I quickly waved at him. But before I could even say a proper goodbye, Sebastian Forrest impatiently slung an arm around my shoulders and steered me toward the building entrance.

"Senior Forrest..."

I quickly pulled his arm off my shoulder, but when I looked outside again, Julian Hayes’s car was already gone.

"I heard about Clara Langley giving you a hard time. So, tell me, how do you want to get revenge?" Sebastian Forrest asked, tilting his head lazily as he held the box with one arm.

I pressed my lips together. Thinking of what Clara Langley had said to me earlier, I frowned. "She must know I’m pregnant. She even threatened me..."

And that was what worried me the most right now.

’In my opinion, Clara Langley is a madwoman who will stop at nothing and has no moral bottom line.’

’You have to be constantly on your guard when dealing with someone like her, because there’s no telling what kind of depraved thing she might do.’

Sebastian Forrest’s eyes narrowed, and his words were laced with ice. "It seems she’s tired of living."

I couldn’t help but look at Sebastian Forrest. A terrifying, murderous aura seemed to emanate from him, sending a chill down my spine.

But when Sebastian Forrest turned to look at me, the chilling coldness vanished, and his eyes even held a hint of a smile. "You don’t have to worry about this. Just leave it to me."

I couldn’t help but frown, worried he might expose Clara Langley and Vincent Lombard’s affair too early, which could complicate the divorce proceedings...

As if sensing my concern, Sebastian Forrest’s lips curved into a smile. "Don’t worry. The big show at the engagement party is waiting for you to press the detonator. I won’t steal your thunder."

I smiled and nodded, finally feeling relieved.

"So, what are your plans now?"

"I haven’t decided yet."

Sebastian Forrest’s lips curved slightly. "Well, I have an idea. Care to hear it?"
