Chapter 110: Chapter 110: Acquire His Company

The sound of the slap resounded across the empty bakery. Clara was taken aback as she sat frozen on her seat, her eyes darting between Liam and Serena.

She had no idea why Serena did what she did, but she was absolutely sure that Serena wasn’t on good terms with the man who stood opposite her.

"Did you just slap me?" Liam who didn’t know what was going on in Clara’s mind chuckled as he stood straight, staring at Serena.

Serena’s palms were tightly clenched into fists by her side as she glared at Liam.

"I’ll slap you again if you dare me." She spat. Her eyes were calm, but if one looked closer, they could see the faint tremor in them.

Liam laughed softly, and quietly. "Serena, have you forgotten about the times we spent in college? Where I’d carry your bags for you, bring your favourite tea and snacks? Did that slip past your mind?"

Clara suddenly felt uncomfortable with his words as she shot up to her feet, the chair making a skidding noise behind her.

"Mr, I don’t know what history you have between Serena. But the past is the past. I would not want you coming in here to harass her. If you do so, there’s a station not too far away from here and I’d be willing to take it up with them."

Clara’s words were calm, steady, and her eyes were clear as she met Liam’s gaze. Serena turned to Clara who was holding her hand tightly, and a warm feeling flowed into her heart.

’So this is what it feels like to have someone protect you, and stand up for you.’ She thought to herself, her lips instinctively curling up.

Liam’s gaze was fixated on Clara and he grinned—not out of amusement—but something strange.

"Serena, do you really have to be with Alexander?" He asked, his tone assuming a sense of vulnerability.

"Whoever I choose to be with is none of your business. I gave you one final chance by not pursuing the matter after the stunt you pulled the last time." She took a deep breath, and added. "Liam, for old time’s sake, don’t force myself hand."

Liam’s eyes narrowed as he stared at her. Then—

He smiled... widely.

"You’ll be mine soon. Keep that in mind."

Before Serena or Clara could respond to his words, he had already turned his back and was walking away... till he stopped.

Without turning to look at them fully, he added, "not even Alexander can stop me from getting what I want." And he walked out.

Serena’s gaze remained on the spot which he stood even after he had left. Clara shook her slightly, snapping her out of her thoughts.

"Serena, who was that?" She asked quietly.

Serena bit her lips as she answered, "an old friend turned nemesis."

Clara’s eyes flashed with worry. "Will he return? It looked like he was threatening you and it seemed he would really get it... done."

Serena swallowed. Clara’s worries were not unfounded. After all, Liam had actually proven that he had no morals as he chose to do whatever benefits him.

She forced a smile on her lips as she assured, "Aunt, you don’t have to worry. He won’t do anything. Even if he tries, he won’t succeed."

Clara looked at her, her bright eyes reflecting her worries. "Are you sure?" She asked quietly.

"A hundred and one percent sure." Serena replied with a bright smile, the corner of her eyes furrowing.

"Then, I’d hold you to your words. Nothing must happen to you, you have to promise me."

"I promise you, Aunty." Serena responded with a delightful beam.

Liam had just stepped out when he was stopped by a man in black suit. His expression was stern and his hands were behind his back.

Liam’s brows knitted in confusion as he stared at the huge guy opposite him.

"Who are you?"

"My madam wants to speak with you. She has an offer for you." The man pointed to a sleek black car which was parked away from the outsider’s views.

Liam wasn’t convinced. Rather, he was on guard. "And who is this Madam of yours?"

"Sir, I’m not in the position to reveal who my Madam is. She is in the car—" he pointed to the car, "—and wishes to discuss with you, to propose an offer."

Liam was silent for a while as he studied the man.

"Alright, let’s go." He gave in. There was nothing wrong in seeing who this mysterious ’Madam’ was. And he was also curious... what sort of proposal did she wish to make?

A few seconds later, Liam was seated in the back seat of the car beside a woman who had a black hat, and sunglasses, which concealed her identity.

The space between Liam’s brows were drawn together. He felt that the woman was familiar, but he was unsure of where he had seen her before.

The car was silent for a while as the ’Madam’ tapped her fingers rhythmically on her laps.

Liam was unable to take the silence anymore as he cleared his throat, breaking the silence. Just as he was about to speak, the ’Madam’ spoke up, interrupting him.

"Do you wish to have Serena to yourself? Do you also wish to take out Alexander?" She turned to him, a dangerous, malicious smirk dancing at the corner of her lips.

Liam’s eyes flashed. "What do you want me to do?"

The woman’s smirk widened as she looked at Liam who had an expression of anticipation.

Alexander was in his office, going through some papers when his phone buzzed, signifying that he had gotten a message.

He picked it up and went through the message. His eyes flashed as his expression darkened.

After he was done reading the message, he dialed a number immediately which was picked up instantly.

"I want you to acquire Liam’s company, and I want you to do it fast."

"Uhn? Boss? Why?" The man on the other end of the call answered, feeling confused.

"Didn’t you hear what I said?" Alexander thundered. "Acquire his company, I want him penniless. I want him destroyed. Acquire everything he has."

"On it, Boss." The man could sense Alexander’s increasing anger, and he agreed immediately while wondering what Liam must have done to piss Alexander. He silently lit a candle for Liam. He had crossed Alexander, and he was about to face the consequences.

Alexander had no idea what was on his subordinate’s mind. Instead, he disconnected the call, and carelessly threw his phone to the table.

"I guess dealing with his company wasn’t enough. He had the guts to threaten Serena." He muttered under his breath, twirling the pen in his hand. "You don’t have to worry, Serena. Anyone who tries to threaten you will face the consequences even if I have to exhaust all my willpower."

The door to his office was knocked, snapping him out of his thoughts.

He raised his head, his eyes flickering straight to the door before muttering a ’come in.’

A burly man walked in, and Alexander nodded at him before gesturing for him to have his seat.

"Speak." He demanded with a low and cool voice.

"Boss, just as you instructed, we have investigated your mother and just as you suspected, she made a phone call to a suspicious number a night before the accident."

Alexander’s eyes narrowed, darkening. "Just as I thought." He chuckled mirthlessly.

"And we investigated your father’s illegitimate son. Boss, there is something fishy with this matter. And I’m pretty sure you are aware of it already." He paused. "You’re only in denial right now."

Alexander was silent as his lips were pursed. He was right. He was in a state of denial.

"How would you feel if the woman you grew up calling mother might not actually be your mother and she’s plotting to kill you? What would be on your mind?" Alexander asked, laughing despondently.

"Boss, you have to face the truth. For the sake of your family. Think about Serena. You have to cover up loose ends. Grace planned the first hit, and it failed. She will be in a state of desperation and will make a mistake. You have to capitalise on that."

Alexander’s eyes narrowed. "Keep an eye on her and whoever she contacts. I want every one of her moves to be watched and reported at the end of the day."

The person on the other end smiled. "That’s the boss I know. You don’t have to worry about this, boss. Before you told me, all her moves were already being watched."

"She was spotted close to your..." A minute of hesitation crossed through the man’s tone, before he continued, "...fiancée’s bakery."

Alexander’s tightened his fingers into fist, the pen in his hand cracking in the process.

"What was she doing there? I hope Serena wasn’t hurt." He asked, his concern for Serena obvious.

"Relax boss. I think she met with a man."

Alexander’s eyes flashed, suddenly having a bad feeling. "What man?"
