One Night Stand With Alexander Blackwood-Chapter 35 — Thirty-five
"Fine." I gave in, even if it was against my will.
Alexander smiled as though he just won a lottery..
"My car is just a few steps ahead. Please follow me."
He walked in front of us while we followed behind. I was unable to see his face, but I was a hundred percent sure that he was all smiles.
We finally arrived at where he parked his car, and he opened the passenger seat for me... just like a gentleman.
My eyes made contact with his, and he offered me a genuine smile. Flustered, I rushed into the car almost falling.
I heard a deep laugh just as the car door closed, and my face turned red instantly. In fact, the car felt like it was about to close in on me.
Maya who had already found her way into the back seat beamed. "I never realised that there would come a day where I would also ride in the boss’s car. This is all thanks to you, Rena."
I glared at her instantly. What was she spewing? Before I could respond, the door opened and Alexander climbed into the car.
"So, where are we headed to?" He asked me after he had finished settling in.
Taking a deep breath, I answered. "Lakeside View."
He looked at me with narrowed eyes. Although he didn’t ask, I could see the question in his eyes.
"You’ll understand once we arrive," I said in a voice which was barely above a whisper.
He didn’t say anything, but ignited the car and drove off.
All through the ride, I only had one thought in mind. Would I be able to get my mom’s belongings? That was the only thing which truly mattered to me..
I watched as the car sped through the busy city, but my mind wasn’t fully occupied with watching the bustling city.
I was self-aware. Alexander was seated right beside me, in the same car. It made me recall the ’confession’ he uttered earlier..
From the corner of my eyes, I watched him. His expression was neutral. He looked cool, calm and composed.
He was the type of man I grew up thinking I would end up with. Reality could often be disappointing. Unfortunately for me, we were of different worlds. I dared not think about things which I shouldn’t.
Time passed, and the car came to a stop in front of my father’s house. I looked out through the window as I observed the lively atmosphere.
Once upon a time, I enjoyed this. My mom was alive. My dad loved us. It was all good. But everything changed overnight.
My mom died. My dad brought in a new wife who already had a kid. And I — I was kicked out of my own home.
I let out a bitter scoff.
"Are you okay? You don’t look excited to be here." Suddenly, I heard Alexander’s voice and I turned my head to him.
He was staring at me with worried eyes, and I smiled softly.
"I’m fine. It is just that several memories are rushing in. And I am unable to control myself." I answered while unbuckling my seatbelt.
He didn’t look convinced by my reply but I didn’t need him to be worried. Nor I did I need him to look at me with pitiful eyes.
"Let’s go, Maya." I turned my attention to my friend who have been unusually silent.
"Why don’t I go in with you both?" Alexander cut in just as I was about to exit the car.
"There would be no need for that, Mr. Blackwood." I rejected him without thinking. What would people say once they find out that ’The Alexander Blackwood’ accompanied me to my father’s birthday party?
I’d be the talk of the town for days. There’s no way I’d want to take such a risk.
Without waiting for his reply, I exited the car. And I made sure that Maya left without saying anything.
I could sense a burning gaze behind me, but I dared not turn back for fear that I wouldn’t be able to control myself.
"Why don’t you let Alexander follow us? We stand a better chance at winning if we have him behind us." Maya asked me, and I stopped in my tracks.
I was silent for a while before I answered. "Maya, I know my dad. He is a greedy person. If he thinks I am close with Alexander or even in a relationship with him, then I don’t know what might happen."
After answering, I resumed in my steps with her following me by my side.
"I understand your fears. I feel like beating up your father." She made a fighting gesture, and I almost burst out laughing.
"I am always happy to have you by my side."
"And I am always happy to stand by your side. That’s what friends are for." She grinned widely as we finally made our way to the entrance.
"Young Miss," one old lady screamed, staring at me with wide eyes.
I beamed on seeing her. "Mama," I called out softly, and she pulled me into her embrace.
"I’ve missed you my daughter." She cried while rubbing my back. I sniffed while trying to hold back my tears. 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶
Mama was my nanny while growing. After my mom died, she took me into her wings while protecting me from Elena. When I decided to leave the house, she wanted to accompany me but I rejected her.
Not because I didn’t want her by my side. But because I couldn’t take care of her.
"Young Miss, how are you doing? Come, let me see your face." Her voice snapped me out of my thoughts and I disentangled from her embrace.
She looked at me carefully as though assessing me. Then she nodded, while tears gathered in her eyes.
"Yes!" She exclaimed, sniffing in the process. "You are much more beautiful than when I saw you last."
"Mama," I bit my lips to prevent my tears from falling. "I’m sorry I didn’t visit you earlier."
"You don’t need to apologize. I am happy you are here now." She smiled, while wiping the tears that slipped from my eyes.
Then, her attention flickered to Maya who was watching the scene unfold with emotional eyes.
"And who is the beautiful princess?" Mama asked.
I immediately pulled Maya to Mama’s side. "Mama, this is my best friend, Maya. She is my one true buddy." I introduced.
Mama smiled.
"I have heard a lot about you Mama. Thank you for doing a great job in bringing up Serena."
"You flatter me." Mama slightly tapped her laps before her face changed.
"You are here for your dad’s birthday party, isn’t that so?" She asked me and I nodded.
"I have something to let you know about. And I hope you can stop it at once." Mama whispered, and my heart rate pulsated.
I suddenly had a bad feeling.
