Chapter 57: Chapter 57 — Fifty-seven

Serena had no idea that someone had been tasked to watch her. Currently, she was in Alexander’s car as he drove her home.

She looked out the window, and a sigh escaped her mouth. Today was supposed to be for her mother alone, but it was ruined.

Alexander’s eyes flickered to her as he watched her side profile. He deduced that she was in a bad mood.

"Would you care for ice-cream?" He asked, snapping her out of her thoughts.

She turned to him, her eyes unable to hide the confusion in her eyes.

"Ice-cream?" She repeated.

"Yes." Alexander nodded fervently. "Isn’t that what girls have when they are in a bad mood?" He probed.

Serena wanted to reject him, saying she didn’t eat sweet things. But recalling that he was doing it to brighten her mood, she could only give in.

Seeing her nod, Alexander’s smile widened. Soon, the car drove to a stop in front of a roadside stall.

"You wait here, I’ll get it for you." He said to her. He didn’t wait for her to reply before stepping out of the car.

Serena watched him, and her heart raced while her expression softened. If anyone finds out that the ’Alexander Blackwood’ stopped the car just to get ice-cream for a woman, surely the internet would erupt in a frenzy.

She chuckled, shaking her head at her thoughts. It didn’t take long for Alexander to return with the ice-cream..

"For you." He said, extending his hand towards. "I hope this eases your mood and lightens it."

Serena froze, blinking. Accepting, she muttered under her breath. "Thank you." She took a bite, and she sighed satisfactorily and her lips instinctively curled up.

Alexander, seeing that she loved it as a smile appeared on her lips, heaved a sigh of relief. Another realization dawned on him, he couldn’t stand seeing Serena in a bad mood. It automatically impacted him as well.

His hands clenched around the steering wheel. Jessica had mentioned something crucial, she wasn’t working alone. And she had let the information of the mastermind slip.

A few minutes later, Alexander’s car pulled to a stop in front of Serena’s apartment. Seeing the familiar buildings, relief washed through Serena.

She might have a tough exterior, but she was shaken by today’s events.

"I have something to do. I won’t be able to walk you in." He said to her, picking her hands while sighing. It was clear that he was reluctant to part with her.

Serena chuckled. "You have done more than enough. Thank you for saving me today." She smiled at him genuinely.

Alexander sighed. He didn’t want to leave her, but he had to personally investigate her kidnapping. His eyes flashed when his mind crossed who could be the mastermind.

"Go on," Serena exited the car. "Good bye, Mr. Blackwood and once again, thank you for today."

"I won’t leave until I’ve seen you walk into your apartment." He declared.

Serena was speechless. She stared at him, but she noticed that he was serious with his words. Having no other option, she walked straight into the building..

Alexander kept to his words. He only drove away when he was sure she had walked into her apartment.

The soft smile on Alexander’s lips vanished when he thought about today’s event.

"She dared to be so audacious." He mumbled, gritting his teeth in anger. Feeling frustrated, he hit the wheel.

He drove directly to Rhea’s home, just as it was in his memory..

About an hour later, he stopped in front of a huge building. He exited the car, his expression was stormy as his eyes met with Rhea who was standing at the entrance.

She had a an apple in hand, her eyes narrowing but a smirk remained on her lips.

"I knew you would show up." She declared proudly as he approached her.

Alexander directly held her by her neck, his hand wrapped around her throat while his eyes were dark. "You were behind this, weren’t you?"

Others would have panicked if held by their throat. Rhea, on the other hand, grinned widely.

"When last did you touch me?" She asked, her voice sensually low. "Was it two or three years ago?"

Alexander tightened his hand around her neck. "Stay away from Serena. This is a warning."

Rhea chuckled, her shoulders trembling. "Do you care about her so much?" She asked, her eyes narrowing as their gazes met.

Alexander didn’t hesitate as he nodded. "Yes. I like her very much. Do you have a problem with that?"

Rhea’s smile faded. "You know your family cannot accept her. You cannot go far in your relationship with her."

Alexander laughed mirthlessly. He let her go, and she fell to the floor, coughing while rubbing her sore throat.

"I can decide who I want to be with. Who I am with isn’t my family’s concern." Alexander uttered without batting an eyelid, his hands in his pocket.

"You are setting her up." Rhea cackled. "Have you forgotten that you have enemies who are ready to take you out? If they find out that Serena is your weakness, there’s no telling what they’d do."

Alexander scoffed. "Do you think I’m scared of puny people who can’t afford to fight in the open?" His voice dropped lower. "I’ll always protect Serena... even if it’s with my life."

Finally, he added, this time his voice carrying a tone of finality which couldn’t be ignored. "Stay away from Serena. It’s a warning. The next time you try something like this..."

He crouched, and leaned to whisper into her ears. "Your parents’ company might end up in ashes. As their precious daughter, surely you don’t want that, do you?"

Rhea’s eyes widened. "You wouldn’t ruin a company just for a girl, would you?" She carefully asked.

Alexander smiled and took a step back. "Why don’t you try me?"

Without waiting for her reply, he walked back to his car leaving behind a dumbfounded Rhea.

She only rose to her feet when she was sure his car had driven away. The horrific look in her eyes was replaced with a calm smile.

"You are willing to go that far for her. How amazing." She let out a deep breath. "I’m sorry Alexander, but you’re mine. Even if it’s to take her out, I’d do so."

Her eyes flashed with malice while her hands clenched by her side.
