Chapter 614: Chapter 515: Perils Cannot Destroy Golan!_2

"For Hiris!"

A Dwarf Legion Commander shouted, and the Dwarf Infantry turned to face the enemy under the flag order. Amidst the booming sound, Golan’s Cavalry and the Dwarf Infantry were tangled together, various weapons wildly flailing.

In the first charge, dozens of Dwarves were killed on the spot. However, the Dwarves had apparently learned from their past lessons and came prepared for this kind of charge, doing their utmost to trap Golan’s Cavalry.

The first wave of Golan’s men used spears, longswords, scimitars, and war hammers to strike down at the encircling Dwarves. They tugged on their horses, attempting to turn and leave, but the mass of Dwarves surrounded them. They were gradually pulled off their horses and chopped into mincemeat with hammers, spears, and swords—horses included. The Dwarves deeply loathed these Cavalry who had inflicted severe damage upon them time and again.

Along with the pitiful neighing of the horses, one Golan Cavalry after another was stripped of life.

Soon, the second wave of the charge arrived, accompanied by the cold spears piercing flesh. While inflicting damage on the enemy, it also freed the Golan Cavalry trapped deep within the Dwarven lines. They broke out from the Dwarves’ position, circling back under Golan’s flag.

Weiset led the multitude of Cavalry out from the increasingly steadfast right flank of the Dwarves, estimating roughly that dozens of men had been lost in this charge.

As the Dwarves pressed their offensive, the situation on the battlefield became more and more unfavorable. The walls were gradually yielded, with Golan’s Garrison unable to resist the force, many times their own. Witnessing this scene, the Dwarves erupted in a vast battle will, as if they were about to seize the town soon.

Weiset found himself in the same deadlock as the previous day; the overwhelming assault of the enemy forced the Cavalry to keep launching charges. Continuous charges would leave Golan’s Cavalry exhausted and repeatedly dying under the Dwarven Infantry’s butchery.

Terrifyingly giant, armored giants stood at the forefront of the Dwarf Legion. They ravaged Golan’s defensive lines like autumn winds sweeping fallen leaves, crushing Golanese bones, trampling and stomping over them under giant feet.

After an hour of fierce fighting, the Dwarves attacking from two directions had initially captured the ramparts. Seeing this, Weiset knew they needed to relieve the pressure at the front line. He led the Cavalry in a half-loop to find the enemy’s weak point, launching several more charges.

Yet the same predicament as yesterday occurred, with the increase in the number of charge rounds, the Cavalry suffered significant losses. They were completing task after deadly task, killing the enemy, but also killing themselves!

But these Golanese were willing to embrace death; Golan’s flag was still fluttering. Larsen Town was not yet lost. Just like last night’s vows, as long as they had breath, they would share Golan’s fate!

The Cavalry suffered casualties in the Dwarves’ flank and rear, while Golan’s Garrison facing the enemy’s offensive had to step back. Several Dwarf legions surged like tide, momentarily breaching the Garrison’s defense line, pushing close to Baron Ambo’s headquarters. But fortunately, Ambo let his Infantry launch a charge that repelled the Dwarves who had surged forward.

The battle situation gradually became hopeless. Even as the Golanese fought valiantly, facing an enemy many times their own size was merely a fight of trapped beasts. Morale dropped drastically under the fierce attacks. It wouldn’t be long before they were like lambs to the slaughter.

The balance of victory tilted towards the Dwarves, with the Dwarves from Kaelonde unable to stop praising Laiendos, loudly chanting Hiris’s anthem.

Weiset led the Cavalry in a change of direction, continuous charges causing casualties among the Dwarves but unable to break the Dwarves’ offensive. The Cavalry losses exceeded a hundred. They were down to just over seven hundred men. In such a desperate situation, the Cavalry remained in combat even if wounded; if an arm was severed, they continued to charge.

The Cavalry shifted closer to where the Garrison was positioned. They commenced assaults on the frontline Dwarves, coordinating with the Garrison’s offensive to alleviate the pressure on their forces. At this point, more Dwarf reserves began to pour onto the battlefield, and the fall of Larsen Town seemed almost inevitable.

The Cavalry’s multiple charges failed to prevent the Golanese defeat. The enemy was too numerous, over thirty thousand strong contending for this small town, while the defenders numbered only a pitiful few thousand. Giants roared, Dwarves cheered; the fall of Larsen Town was just a matter of time.

"Just hold on a bit longer... just a bit longer!"

Weiset shouted, his body drenched in blood, his throat nearly hoarse.

The rain continued to fall, growing heavier, creating pits full of bloody water on the ground. Golan’s Garrison was at their last resort. The military flags kept falling, submerged under the steps of the Dwarf Legion.

The ground trembled underfoot. Golanese and Kaelonde Dwarves had fought from morning to afternoon. Dusk approached, the bloody sunset seemingly signaling the fate of the Kingdom—just as it was time for the sun to set, it was also time for Golan to fall.

Weiset led the Cavalry in fearless charges, striving to delay the Dwarves’ advance with all their might. Amidst the melee, a Dwarf Centurion swung his hammer and knocked Weiset off his horse. His masterless warhorse let out a wail, watching helplessly as the Earl’s son crashed to the ground. 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦

Bloodied, Weiset staggered to his feet, roaring at the Dwarf in anger, as if he were also shouting at fate. He raised his longsword and began a bloody melee with the Centurion, as Dwarf Infantry closed in, trying to end the life of this Cavalry commander.
