49 -45: Backup Plan

The APC was moving along the road, with no one noticing that the people inside weren’t soldiers at all.

Having removed their Russian army uniforms, several individuals had put on cloaks and hoodies, to facilitate their upcoming action.

There were constant roadblocks along the way, but all were without exception allowing this APC to pass through.

Han Guang opened the map on his personal computer – they had already left the French-Russian military border and were en route to the French military base.

At this point, he received intelligence from Headquarters saying that both of their convoys had been intercepted by the Australian army upon leaving their defense zones, and had undergone inspection.

Obviously, the Americans had been watching them closely, yet they had all along misled them.

Upon reaching the French military base, they were to switch to civilian vehicles and drive away from the defense zone, heading toward Ulysses City.

Once they left the defense zone and entered Ulysses City, regardless of the problems they might encounter, they would not be able to receive assistance from the military.

That’s why Headquarters had painstakingly navigated them through Russian and French defense zones into Ulysses City.

The APC arrived at the base shortly and parked in a spacious armored vehicle warehouse.

A team of French soldiers armed with guns rapidly approached them.

As Luo’er’s heartbeat started to accelerate, they blocked all entries and exits of the warehouse and guarded them with their backs turned.

A French soldier opened the rear door of the APC.

Han Guang hopped down, glanced at the SUV parked alongside the APC, and gestured to everyone: “Get in the car, ready to depart!”

At his command, the five of them quickly climbed into the prearranged SUV without any delay.

With Han Guang as the driver, he activated the autopilot and set up the route.

The SUV then roared as it started and drove out of the warehouse. freёwebnoѵel.com

In the SUV, Luo’er and the others could get a glimpse of the basic layout of the French military base.

Here, there was also an airstrip lined with fighter jets and ground armored vehicles.

The ground was paved with asphalt roads, and it was said that over 5000 French troops were stationed here.

The defense zones formed concentric circles around the Otherworld Gate as their center, with defense zones allocated according to each country’s military strength.

The largest of these defense zones was the American defense zone, where over 30000 American soldiers were stationed.

They were now leaving the French defense zone, heading towards the central Otherworld Gate.

Interceptions had continually occurred along the way, yet all had chosen to ignore their SUV.

After about ten minutes’ drive, they crossed the last checkpoint and were about to enter Ulysses City under Australian jurisdiction.

At this point, they could already see distant high rises.

“White Whale calling Headquarters, the cargo has left the Tri-color defense zone and is heading towards the central target, requesting next step instructions.” On the way, Han Guang once again reported back to Headquarters.

“Headquarters received, proceed as planned, backup personnel already deployed, over.” Han Guang felt somewhat relieved upon receiving this response.

As the vehicle was approaching the center of Ulysses City, buildings began to appear sporadically.

The desert environment of Ulysses City wasn’t suitable for city construction.

If not for the Otherworld Gate, this place would have just been a tourist spot at Ayers Rock.

“Calling White Whale, this is Headquarters!

If you receive this, respond!” Suddenly, they heard an urgent call from Headquarters.

“White Whale received, over!” Han Guang responded calmly.

“There’s a mole, the plan has been leaked, change in plans!” Headquarters’ reply was brief.

“Understood, initiating backup plan!” Han Guang said as he turned off the communication device and then switched to another communication channel.

“Something’s not right, be prepared for Plan B!” Han Guang then pressed several times on the vehicle’s LCD display, showing several red dots moving toward their green one.

“Who are they?” Luo’er asked uneasily.

“Our people!” Han Guang responded and turned off the autopilot.

He steered the vehicle away from the road, moving in the direction of the red dots.

A few cars stopped on the desert plain, and several agents in plainclothes hopped out.

Han Guang opened the door and told the others: “Get out, we’ll split up and head into the city!”

Once everyone had gotten off the car, Han Guang began assigning roles: “Luo’er, Tangmo, you two make a pair, pose as a couple.”

“A couple!” Tangmo’s eyes lit up at the word.

She looked up at Luo’er, her face warming up uncontrollably.

“Baiyue, you will pose as a member of Otherworld United Organization.” Han Guang ordered.

The Otherworld United Organization is a civilian organization aimed at peaceful communication and friendship with the Otherworld.

Its members are spread across the globe, fanatically worshipping everything from the Otherworld.

So much so that they would dress up like Otherworlders, among whom the Elf Race was the most popular.

To these people, Ulysses City is their sacred land; ever since Ulysses City was opened up, a large number of organization members have made pilgrimages here each year.

Baiyue didn’t respond verbally – she gave Luo’er and Tangmo a glance, appearing somewhat desolate, and just nodded without showing any specific emotion.

“Cheng Ziang, Hu Daoke, the two of you will pose as a rich young master and his bodyguard!” Han Guang then directed the others.

“I’m guarding this guy?” Hu Daoke incredulously pointed at himself and protested.

“Little Ke!” Luo’er coughed once as a reminder.

“Ah, understood!” Seeing Luo’er and Tangmo’s demeanor, his temper instantly subsided, and he reluctantly agreed.

“Being a bodyguard requires the resolve of a bodyguard, you know!” Cheng Ziang made a seemingly lamenting remark.

“You rascal!” Hu Daoke grinded his teeth in frustration.

“Get in the car for a disguise after distribution!” Han Guang urged, dispersing a few people and putting them in cars.

Luo’er and Tangmo changed into couple’s hoodies.

Luo’er put on the hood to cover his ears, and the headquarters had specifically prepared a pair of over-ear headphones for him to prevent any slips.

In the backpack prepared for them, there were fake passports and some documents to ensure that they could bypass Australian patrol checks.

“Hehe, Luo’er, we are a couple now!” Tangmo began giggling alone as soon as they changed into couple costumes.

“Of course!” Luo’er glanced at her and put his arm around her shoulder.

Tangmo trembled.

She looked up at Luo’er and happily threw herself into his arms.

“Moumou, don’t hug so tight.” Luo’er said somewhat uncomfortably.

“Luo’er, we are a couple now!” Tangmo happily declared.

“Of course, this is what they asked for, but only temporarily.” Luo’er shyly replied.

Tangmo looked up at him, blinking her eyes.

Instead of feeling disappointed, she asked, “So, you are my boyfriend now!”

“Wha, what of course.” Luo’er looked away blushing avoiding Tangmo’s gaze.

Her intense feelings were somewhat overwhelming for him.

“So, can we do everything that boyfriends and girlfriends do now?” Tangmo tilted her head and held him tighter around his neck.

“Moumous, calm down, there are others in the car!” Luo’er blushed to the root of his ears.

He glanced guiltily at the driver and the latter just shook his head laughing, not disturbing the two lovebirds.

“Luo’er, hold me!” Tangmo looked at him with anticipation.

“I can only just hug you!” Luo’er hesitantly hugged her.

Tangmo nestled into Luo’er’s arms, her face full of satisfaction.

“Who grouped us together!” This was the only thought in Luo’er’s head at the moment.

The vehicle soon entered Ulysses City and headed towards the central Otherworld Gate.

However, due to the crowded pedestrians and vehicles, they didn’t drive directly to the city center, but stopped at a parking lot two kilometers away.

“I can only take you here.

You will walk from here.

Your headset has a communication device in it, you can contact the headquarters anytime.

Don’t be too nervous, we have our people around.” Before letting the two off, the driver said his only thought, then quickly drove away towards the suburbs.

Luo’er looked around.

It was quite different from the barren scene just moments ago.

Tall buildings and uniformed streets were everywhere, and the square where they were located was crowded with people and tourists from various countries were visible.

Luo’er pulled his hood closer, scanned his surroundings warily, and then reached for the communicator on his headset.

However, as Tangmo was tightly holding his arm, he had to tilt his head to turn on the communicator.

“Luo’er to HQ, do you copy?”

“HQ copies, Luo’er’s team.

Follow the preset plan.

We will guide you to the Otherworld Gate.”

“Copy that, enroute now.” Saying this, Luo’er cut off the communicator.

“Wow, Luo’er, look, so many tall buildings and beautiful streets!” As a bird in a cage, Tangmo was amazed to see modern skyscrapers for the first time.

“Hmm, I remember when I first arrived here, it was all a desert.” Luo’er nodded his head and pulled out their IDs from the bag.

He frowned a bit looking at them.

“Luo’er, look, the Otherworld Gate!” Tangmo pointed towards the Otherworld Gate seen between the buildings again astounded.

This ancient, bizarre transport gate was distinct from the high-tech modern city.

“Moumou, if we run into an inspection, don’t speak, got it?” Instead of agreeing with her, Luo’er warned her.

“Oh!” Tangmo nodded her head.

“Let’s go!” Luo’er put his backpack on and prepared to leave holding her.

“Luo’er!” Tangmo stopped him and looked displeased.

“Sorry!” Luo’er paused, gave an apology with a smile.

He touched her head and then bent down to gently touch her forehead with his, and asked, “Is this okay?”

Such intimate contact made Tangmo extremely happy.

Like a coy wife, she hung onto his arm, grinning from ear to ear as they walked towards the Otherworld Gate together.
