Otherworld Advance Team-Chapter 77 - 73 Blue Bay
77: Chapter 73: Blue Bay
77 -73: Blue Bay
“Is there any way to solve this problem?” Hu Daoke couldn’t help but ask.
“Of course, there is,” Luo’er pointed to the sky and said, “If you can’t sail, you can always take an airship.”
“I know,” Hu Daoke exclaimed in enlightenment, “the airship of the high-peak dwarves, am I right!”
“Yes,” Luo’er nodded, and then said, “A hundred years ago, the high-peak people studied and developed antigravity runes.
They used these runes to develop an antigravity furnace.
They installed these furnaces on their ships, creating airships that amazed the people of Earth.”
The high-peak people are a branch of the dwarves who live in the mountainous region to the northeast of the continent, in the dwarven state of Ronisca.
Their capital, Helros, is built on the slopes of the Aifansi Mountain Range.
The high-peak people adore the sky, so they built a large air force, which was a main force in the second Otherworld War.
Their airship’s large cannon destroyed multiple nations’ armies in an instant, leading to their defeat by the Otherworld army.
“Hey, since they have airships, why don’t the high-peak people go on ocean voyages?
In such times, discovering a new continent will be theirs and they can claim it entirely as their colony, and that would be a stable business!” said Hu Daoke excitedly.
“Because airship operations consume too much, they simply can’t support ocean voyages!” Luo’er shrugged helplessly.
The antigravity furnace of the high-peak people requires consuming magic crystals as a source of power, so their consumption is astonishing.
Currently, every one-week voyage of a high-peak airship needs to load half of its weight in magic crystals as fuel, then refuel again upon reaching the destination.
If a ship runs out of power at sea, it can still float along with the current.
But if an airship runs out of power in mid-air, it will directly drop down, which would endanger lives.
Therefore, before energy technology matures, the high-peak people use their airships very cautiously, and the number of airships exported to other nations can be counted on one hand.
The group was talking and walking, they are planning to rent a boat to the Kabarguru Peninsula, but the captain told them all routes to the Kabarguru Peninsula had been stopped.
The group immediately asked the reason why.
The captain, with a bad beard that looked like it hadn’t been cleaned for a long time, looked dirty.
Dressed in a worn-out captain’s uniform, he always emitted an odd smell mixed with marine stench and the odor of alcohol.
He told the group that the Kabarguru Peninsula had been engulfed by tribal warfare ever since three months ago, with two major tribes fighting over leadership.
As one of the few port cities, Balben Port, where the Balben River enters the sea, naturally became a key contention point for the two tribes.
However, when the beastmen went to war, the merchants of Balben Port suffered.
These uncivilized beastmen are cruel and bloody, and whichever tribe occupied Balben would loot and harm the merchants of other races who did business in Balben.
As time went by, Balben became a forbidden area, completely abandoned by merchants.
After hearing the captain’s words, the group couldn’t help but worry.
The Kabarguru Peninsula was in the midst of war, and entering to investigate at this time could lead to accidents, so they inevitably had the idea to retreat.
But after repeated deliberation, Luo’er still decided to go to the Kabarguru Peninsula for reconnaissance, they didn’t need to delve too deep into the beastman territory.
They just needed to hover around the perimeter and collect the materials needed for the research center.
However, the water route was blocked at this point, their only choice was the second route mentioned by Luo’er earlier.
According to the new deployment, they would sail from Winter Harbor to the southern neighbor Oudallo’s port city of Blue Bay.
Then they would find transportation from Blue Bay, cross the Namijiya Mountain Range, and finally enter the Kabarguru Peninsula.
The Namijiya Mountain Range is the largest in the continent, it starts from Blue Bay and connects all the way to the southernmost part of the continent, completely separating the Kabarguru Peninsula from the continent.
Following the Namijiya Mountain Range south, they could enter the Elven Kingdom Ilanadale, and the political center of Ilanadale, Divine Wood Town, was located at the foot of the mountain.
Without much hesitation, the group got on the ship bound for Blue Bay and ultimately left the territory of Otland and arrived in the neighboring nation of Oudallo.
Oudallo is located in the western part of the continent and is separated by the Namijiya Mountain Range from the Kabarguru Peninsula.
This is the region of the Bobulu people from the North, although they also believe in the Church of Light, they are distant relatives of the Aud people, and are known as the Bobulu.
Stepping onto the land of Blue Bay, Luo’er and the others felt a different sensation.
Unlike the Aud people who are stubborn and fond of civil strife, the nation of the Bobulu people has always been united.
Despite their faith in the Church of Light, they have rejected the outdated rules of the church.
After the second Otherworld War, the Bobulu believed that the Earth’s army would be their future development direction, so they actively learned the tactics of the Earth’s army and began to purchase a large number of Earth’s weapons.
Due to fear of the Bobulu people’s enthusiasm, the UN Security Council had restricted Bobulu’s purchase of weapons, prohibiting the sale of any automatic or semi-automatic weaponry to the nation of Bobulu.
Consequently, they had no choice but to massively purchase bolt-action rifles from the civilian market as the primary equipment for their infantry.
Throughout their journey, Luo’er and his companions saw a variety of bolt-action rifles wielded by the Oudallo troops stationed in Blue Bay.
The Oudallo people had adopted a familiar differentiation method; they divided the rifles based on their calibers into the US forces using M1906 Springfield .30-06 rifle rounds, the Soviet forces using 7.62×54mmR rounds, the British forces using .303 British/7.7×56mmR rifle rounds, and the German forces using 7.92×57mm rifle rounds.
Although the United Nations claimed to only allow the sale of firearms produced before the 1980s, each country could redesign their outdated weapons and unify their calibers.
The reason for not choosing this approach was to ensure that Otherworld armies would perpetually lack ammunition supplies, thus posing no substantial threat to Earth.
In other words, the proliferation of weapons of various calibers in Otherworld was entirely a consequence of United Nations’ leadership.
The Oudallo army stationed in Blue Bay was primarily composed of German forces.
Their weaponry included the most primitive Commission Rifle Model 1888, the Gew.98 rifle, and its improved model, the Kar98k rifle, all of these using 7.92×57mm rifle rounds.
Unlike the mix of armor, swords, and rifles that the Oudallo people used, the Oudallo army resembled Earth’s armies during World War One.
They wore elaborate uniforms, with leather ammunition pouches on their waists.
Their peculiar helmets were the only easily identifiable trait that marked them as Otherworld soldiers.
The Bobulu people had darker skin than the Aud people, probably because they lived in a mid-latitude region, their facial features were not as prominent, they generally had dark hair and thick lips.
Likewise, Oudallo had branches of the Adventurers’ Guild, hence there were no restrictions on adventurers carrying weapons.
Hence, they encountered numerous checkpoints on their journey, yet following brief inspections, they were always allowed to proceed.
Their Guild Emblems played a significant role during these encounters.
Compared to the Aud people, racial discrimination, especially against half-elves in Oudallo, was much less.
As a result, the number of times Luo’er encountered prejudice was far less than in Oudland.
Although others noticed his dark green eyes at first sight, most of them met him with a smile, showing no contempt.
Blue Bay was a port city with its architecture akin to the Mediterranean style, predominantly white and blue, most buildings were low, and streets were paved with smooth bricks.
Since it often rained here, the streets were not dirty.
Walking on the neat streets while salty sea breeze blew against them made the group feel delighted.
Hu Daoke even considered extending his vacation for a few days, but Luo’er denied the proposal.
Although he had the same idea, he believed that the current mission was paramount.
The group reached the horse market in Blue Bay and bought six horses as their mode of transport.
Of course, the funds came from the operation budget of the Headquarters.
Until now, they had been relying on their legs for transportation.
Given that they were not in a hurry to investigate the missing arms case, Luo’er would certainly have purchased horses for everyone.
The investigation ended up being confusing, with many mysteries left unsolved.
But Luo’er didn’t want to think about their previously unfortunate days.
Each person received a horse and one extra was assigned the task of carrying the baggage.
Having secured the transportation, the group rested in Blue Bay for a night and then set off towards the Namijiya Mountain Range.
Even though the distance seemed short on the map, they would need two days to reach the foot of the mountain.
After riding for the whole day, they finally decided to camp in a forest.
They had lost count of how many times they had camped outdoors, but they had become accustomed to it.
After dinner, a bright moon hung in the sky, casting a gentle light on everything around them.
The celestial structure of Otherworld was similar to Earth, with only one moon.
But unlike Earth, the moon in Otherworld was much bigger and brighter.
When the moonlight poured down from the gap between the clouds and illumined the earth, the entire forest looked as bright as day.
After dinner, Tangmo took Baiyue deep into the forest to attend to her needs.
Soon, they heard Tangmo’s exclamation.
Just as the men were about to check on the situation, Tangmo came out excitedly, dragging Baiyue along, and said to Luo’er, “Luo’er Luo’er, there’s a lake over there.
It’s so beautiful!”
In the heart of the forest was a lake as clear as jade.
The quiet waters reflected the gentle light of the moon, creating a beautiful shimmering surface.
It looked like a spring of life, making the scene quite enchanting.
“Luo’er Luo’er, I want to take a bath in the lake.
Can I?” Tangmo asked, holding his hand and acting coquettishly.
“No way.
The school has repeatedly emphasized that you can’t swim in unknown waters,” Luo’er firmly refused.
“We’re not going to swim.
We just want to bathe in the shallow end,” Tangmo said, pouting her lips and shaking Luo’er’s arm more fiercely.
“Fine, I give up.
You just can’t go into deep water.
The water should only come up to your knees,” Luo’er withdrew his hand and said, visibly exasperated.
