Our Love Story: Hard to Guard Against the Sudden Love Strike-Chapter 364 - 345: I’ve Got My Eye on You
Thorne Family.
The lights on the first floor were warm, the living room was playing the news broadcast, and in the dining room, a family of three was enjoying dinner.
Mina Thorne glanced at her absent-minded father, "Dad, I have something I’d like to ask your advice on."
Quentin Thorne came back to his senses and put down his tableware, "Go ahead, Mina."
"I received an arrest application from the West District Police Department this afternoon. A female lawyer is suspected of using a vehicle’s idling state to produce a large amount of carbon monoxide in a closed space, causing the vehicle owner to be poisoned and die. Through reviewing the evidence, I found..."
"Mina!" Quentin Thorne suddenly stopped his daughter, "Do not take this case!"
"Why?" Mina Thorne asked, puzzled.
Sitting across the table, Ian Grant who had been silent, looked at his daughter and asked, "Is the female lawyer named Sienna Thornton?"
Mina Thorne nodded.
Ian Grant sneered coldly, giving Quentin Thorne a disdainful look, and said with a sarcastic tone, "That female lawyer is your father’s ’student’ and has personal relations with him! I also think you shouldn’t take this case! Avoid people gossiping!"
Over the years, Mina Thorne was well aware of the issues between her parents. Of course, she didn’t believe her father would have any unspeakable relationship with a student, but due to the suspect knowing her father, she thought for a moment and agreed, "Okay, I will inform my boss when I go to work tomorrow."
Quentin Thorne nodded, "Have the case transferred, and don’t focus on or mention this case at home!"
Mina Thorne understood Quentin Thorne wanted to avoid suspicion and didn’t ask further questions.
After dinner, Quentin Thorne drove out.
His car was parked outside the West District Police Department, and without getting out, he made a phone call. Simon Forrester came running out, opened the passenger door, and got in.
Quentin Thorne, with an expressionless face, watched the police cars and officers coming and going outside the windshield, asking, "How far has the case progressed?"
Simon Forrester said, "The forensic report is expected to come out tomorrow morning. The lawyer and Candy have checked the details of the night of the incident and are preparing other evidence, don’t know if it can be finished by tomorrow morning."
"Did the forensic team collect evidence from the parking spot at your apartment?"
"Yes."
After a while, Quentin Thorne asked again, "Can Annie’s lawyer be trusted?"
Simon Forrester responded firmly without hesitation, "Yes."
Quentin Thorne nodded and glanced at his watch, "Give me the lawyer’s phone number. I want to meet with him."
.
Quentin Thorne faced difficulties in publicly appearing in this matter, and could only secretly help gather evidence, including the method to test the ground material at the crime scene, which was his idea. 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂
On the night Sienna Thornton was taken away, after leaving Simon Forrester at the police station, he immediately went to the crime scene. Due to it being too dark at the time, he didn’t find anything. The next day, at dawn, he went again and finally discovered that the ground at the crime scene may have left some substances with strong adhesive power.
He was now going to work with Rhonda Wagner on the evidence to be supplemented tomorrow, seeing if he could find a breakthrough to completely clear Sienna Thornton’s suspicion.
He couldn’t let Sienna Thornton be transferred to the detention center. His limit could only accept Sienna Thornton’s cooperation with the investigation at the police station.
.
Quentin Thorne went to find Rhonda Wagner, and Simon Forrester headed back into the police station hall to stay.
Thanks to Tobias Blackwood saying hello, no one bothered him even though he had stayed here for two days straight.
Actually, he could have gone home and waited, since everything inside had been arranged, and no one would bother Sienna Thornton, but he still wanted to stay here with her, just in case anything happened, he would be there first.
The Sinclair Family had already made the matter known at the ancestral residence. Old Master Forrester and Sylvia Langley didn’t express much opinion, but Zane Forrester took the opportunity to call, asking him to reconsider the marriage with Sienna Thornton, saying the Forrester Family can’t afford such shame.
Meanwhile, at the Forrester Group, Nolan Kramer also used "due to the personal mishap of a law firm partner causing a negative impact on the group" as a reason to terminate the contract, making a fuss over Aurora Buckley.
Simon Forrester had no time to deal with Nolan Kramer now, instructing Aurora Buckley to wait until Sienna Thornton cooperated with the investigation and returned to her job before making a decision.
.
Later in the night, close to midnight, Simon Forrester was taking a brief nap with his head raised and eyes closed when Rhonda Wagner called, saying they had found the evidence from a blind spot in the surveillance.
It turned out that on the night of the incident, the action of Nina Sinclair snatching the piece from Sienna Thornton wasn’t captured by Cognitas’ surveillance because it was located in a blind spot, but was instead recorded by the dashcam of a private car parked not far away across the street.
And now, Quentin Thorne was instructing his secretary to contact the traffic department to check all vehicles passing through West Suburb Avenue between ten and ten-thirty that night. They would need to inspect the dashcams of those vehicles one by one, hoping to find some clues.
Though this was like searching for a needle in a haystack, the traffic flow on West Suburb Avenue leading to the outskirts wasn’t large, especially being well past ten at night, meaning even fewer cars, so as long as there were enough personnel, it shouldn’t be too difficult.
Simon Forrester could slightly relax.
.
hours had passed since Sienna Thornton was taken by the police, with only 1 hour left until she would be transferred to the detention center.
The entire day, no one came to interrogate her anymore, everything was eerily quiet. She couldn’t help but wonder, had the police already decided on the case, determined to transfer her to the detention center after 48 hours to await prosecution, so they were no longer bothering to interrogate her?
Even Officer Sutton, who always came to provoke her, didn’t show up again.
Thinking about going to the detention center, a bit of despair rose in Sienna Thornton’s heart.
This last hour passed agonizingly.
Her phone had been taken away, she didn’t know if Melinda Linton had called her, if unable to reach her, Melinda Linton would be worried, her heart wasn’t good, what if she got upset and her health deteriorated?
And Simon Forrester must have been sitting outside all these days, his back injury hadn’t entirely healed, being this troubled, his back would certainly be hurting...
Thinking of these things made Sienna Thornton even more despairing. Tears welled up in her eyes, she had to exert all her strength to hold back from crying out loud, but the tears at the corners of her eyes still fell uncontrollably.
After what seemed like ages, the interrogation room door was pushed open.
Seth Sutton, who had vanished for the whole day, walked in holding a piece of paper, wearing a poker face as he looked at Sienna Thornton.
Sienna Thornton thought he was going to humiliate and taunt her again, swallowing her painfully choked-up throat from holding back tears, she turned her face away, refusing to look at him.
"Sienna Thornton!" Seth Sutton shouted, though gruff, it was without the anger and disdain wanting her in jail immediately that he had the previous two days.
"You can go!" Seth Sutton said, his voice warmer than his previous line, "Go ahead! You are no longer a suspect!"
On hearing this, Sienna Thornton’s tears, held in her eyes for too long, finally poured uncontrollably.
From Seth Sutton’s angle, she turned away, seeming unnaturally calm as if in a cool composure. He thought to himself, a lawyer is indeed a lawyer, no matter the situation, always composed beyond being just a woman!
Yet after a few seconds, Sienna Thornton suddenly turned to look at him.
Her small, pale face was covered in tears, eyes red, her delicate little nose blushing, the lower lip slightly swollen from biting hard, seemingly weak and helpless but strikingly beautiful.
A contradiction between being pitiful yet stubbornly tenacious beauty.
Seth Sutton was momentarily stunned, but quickly snapped back, pulling out a packet of crumpled tissues from the pocket of the unchanged trench coat, stepped forward, handing them to Sienna Thornton, "Here! You can go home, what’s there to cry about?"
Sienna Thornton didn’t accept them, holding her lower lip tightly, slowly standing up, her chest heaving, nostrils flaring out of anger and injustice.
Seth Sutton seeing her still crying, pushed the tissues forward once more, finally getting them swiped aside by Sienna Thornton!
Sienna Thornton, grinding her back teeth, glaring at him with eyes full of resentment said, "I’ll remember you!"
After saying so, she wiped her tears, tugging on the still-sturdy set of clothes she wore, straightening her spine, lifted her chin slightly, and walked out gracefully.
Seth Sutton followed out, calling, "Walk straight down the corridor, turn right, collect your belongings! Once collected, you can leave directly, your lawyer and family are waiting outside for you!"
Sienna Thornton did not respond.
Perhaps worried she might not know the way, or feeling apologetic for his unkind interrogation manner the past two days, Seth Sutton followed her through, watching her collect her phone then dash out.
Two men waited for her outside.
She ran and threw herself into the arms of the taller man, whose eyes and nose were red, holding her tightly, continuously kissing her tear-stained face.
Seth Sutton recognized him; he was the only heir to the city’s richest family, the Forrester Family, and a renowned post-80s architect in the construction circle, Simon Forrester.
Simon Forrester held the girl tight, kissing her tears while crying himself, red-eyed, whispering something to her, gently clasping the back of her head with one hand, soothing her back with the other.
The girl was like a wounded little animal, trembling as she sobbed in his arms.
Seth Sutton suddenly found the scene slightly painful to watch.
He gritted his teeth, turned briskly, and headed back to his office.
