Out of Control: Into Your Everything-Chapter 205: I’m Sorry I Lied to You
The doctor said that we have to wait for the anesthesia to completely wear off before Julian Ford will slowly regain consciousness.
At the earliest, it will be by the next day.
Considering the craniotomy he underwent, even if he wakes up, he will still need to rest quietly.
The night of Julian Ford’s surgery, after finishing with his patient, Josiah Sutton went to the inpatient ward but only saw Julian Ford lying on the hospital bed, with no sign of Scarlett Shaw.
He had come straight over after the surgery, and his phone was still in the clinic.
So he went back to the clinic.
There was a message from Scarlett Shaw sent two hours ago:
- Josiah, I’m sorry for lying to you.
Josiah Sutton frowned and immediately looked up Scarlett Shaw’s number and dialed it.
All he got was the mechanical shutdown prompt tone of the phone.
He suddenly recalled the "goodbye" Scarlett said to him when she left in the afternoon, and a bad premonition grew infinitely larger—
That "goodbye" might have been a farewell.
In many moments after that, Josiah Sutton thought more than once, if he had forcibly stopped Scarlett at the hospital entrance that day, would she and Julian Ford have avoided such a long separation, a separation that lasted far longer than the year they were together?
But there is no if.
Not only did he not expect it, but Scarlett’s departure was also so complete that she vanished without a trace, nowhere to be found.
Also, upon seeing Scarlett’s apology and recalling her gradually receding figure, a subtle voice inside Josiah Sutton told him:
No one can make her stay.
Others said he was disciplined and courteous, extremely respectful to others, yet precisely because he was like this, during the time of losing Mia, he did nothing, and now, realizing that Scarlett had chosen to leave Julian behind, he still did nothing.
He always believed that everyone has their own free will, and if someone is determined to leave, then they truly want to leave.
Nothing you say will help.
Finding her would only add to the torment.
But perhaps there are reasons for the person leaving, what about the person left behind?
Dr. Sutton, who always maintained an extremely stable demeanor, for the first time in his life, found himself in a panic not knowing how to face his brother.
The second person to notice Scarlett’s disappearance was Ryan Ford.
Ryan was used to living a life of debauchery, staying up all night was common for him, and he was still energetic after not sleeping for a day and night. However, Ezra Ford, given his age, despite the good news of Julian’s successful surgery, was showing signs of exhaustion.
As his son, Ryan naturally had to take his father home.
But upon returning to the hospital, he discovered that Scarlett was nowhere to be found.
In the silent ward, the sound of the machine ticking was especially jarring.
Aside from Julian Ford on the hospital bed, there was no one else in the room.
Ryan, utterly confused, sought out Josiah Sutton and asked, "Josiah, where’s Scarlett Shaw? Why can’t I find her?"
"She’s gone."
Josiah Sutton replied expressionlessly.
Ryan immediately frowned, his eyes filled with a heavy seriousness, his face falling, "What do you mean?"
As he spoke, he pulled out his phone, found Scarlett’s number, and called.
Unsurprisingly, it was switched off. 𝐟𝚛𝕖𝚎𝕨𝗲𝐛𝚗𝐨𝐯𝐞𝕝.𝐜𝗼𝗺
Calls on WhatsApp went unanswered as well.
Josiah Sutton’s narrow eyes behind his glasses darkened as he recalled the sight of Scarlett walking away in the afternoon and said, "After Julian was pushed out from the operating room, Scarlett said that her grandmother wasn’t well and that she needed to go see her."
"Impossible."
Without a second thought, Ryan denied Josiah Sutton’s words.
"Scarlett’s grandmother’s condition has always been monitored by her uncle Felix Ford, and if there was no news from me, then nothing must have happened."
To confirm the facts, Ryan immediately called Felix Ford.
Scarlett’s grandmother was indeed safely at home.
Ryan asked Felix Ford, "Have you seen Scarlett recently?"
"She came to see my mom a few days ago!"
Felix Ford’s tone was laced with oblivious foolishness.
"But Scarlett was quite generous when she came this time and gave a sum of money for my mom’s living expenses!"
Ryan’s brow twitched, and in a cold tone, he said, "Whatever she gave, you make sure it’s spent on the elderly, or you’ll be in trouble!"
Felix Ford eagerly agreed on the other end, taking the opportunity to propose a business deal with Ryan. But Ryan wasn’t interested and hung up the phone, looking extremely displeased.
During his conversation with Felix Ford, Ryan had already realized something.
His heart suddenly sank to the bottom.
Josiah Sutton couldn’t possibly lie about Scarlett’s grandmother’s situation, so the one who lied could only be Scarlett.
But Scarlett was never one to lie easily. To suddenly lie at a time like this and then disappear with no contact, there was no need to overthink; Ryan could almost confirm that something significant must have happened to Scarlett.
Could it be about Benjamin Shaw...
As the thought first crossed his mind, Ryan felt a chill run down his spine.
But now wasn’t the time to carefully ponder the cause and effect. Finding Scarlett was the most important task at hand.
Otherwise, what would they do when his brother wakes up and doesn’t see her?
The last time Scarlett was taken away by Liam Spencer, it was only for one night, and Julian Ford was so furious. He later dug up a lot of dirt on Liam, even exposing his school scandals, directly sending him to a suburban prison of the particularly shamed kind.
The current situation could only be more severe than that.
Ryan dared not think further and immediately contacted all his connections to search for Scarlett.
Calls went out one after another, each reply increasingly disappointing.
Ryan grew more and more agitated, even feeling angry at Josiah Sutton’s inaction earlier in the day.
"Josiah, you realized Scarlett was missing before I did, why didn’t you go find her?"
"Haven’t you already realized?"
Ryan paused, "What?"
Josiah Sutton removed his glasses to wipe them, wearily pinching the bridge of his nose, and then showed Ryan the message Scarlett had sent.
"Scarlett wanted to leave on her own."
Josiah Sutton said.
Ryan: "..."
"She chose the day of Julian’s surgery to sever all contact with us, certain that everyone, including Julian, would naturally believe she wouldn’t leave at a time like this."
"Scarlett loves Julian very much, but she still left."
Josiah Sutton sighed softly.
"Isn’t this enough reason for us to respect her decision?"
Josiah Sutton didn’t know the specific reason for Scarlett’s sudden departure, but he’d been abandoned before.
He knew how hard the heart of the person leaving can be, so from a deep place in his heart, he wouldn’t interfere with Scarlett’s already made decision.
Even if this decision was too cruel for Julian Ford.
And Scarlett, who made this decision, must have gone through unimaginable pain, torment, and struggle that the bystanders could never fathom.
Ryan, unlike Josiah Sutton, didn’t have that good of a temper, nor could he understand how he could so quickly accept the fact that Scarlett left on her own accord.
"Josiah, Scarlett is not Mia, and my brother is not you! If they just separate like this inexplicably, it will be painful for both of them!"
