Chapter 206: Chapter 206: Scarlett Resigned and Left!

Ryan Ford blurted out words that struck Josiah Sutton’s backbone directly.

The latter’s face turned deathly pale, his voice was ice-cold:

"Ryan Ford, I know what you’re afraid of. You’re afraid that if Julian Ford wakes up tomorrow and doesn’t see Scarlett Shaw, something bad will happen. But if you can think of it, don’t you think Scarlett could have thought of it too?!"

Ryan was momentarily stunned.

"Not all decisions have to have a legitimate reason! Scarlett decided to leave, and the only thing we can be sure of is one thing—"

An unwillingness showed in Josiah Sutton’s furrowed brows, as well as helplessness.

"All the factors that drove her to leave were more significant than staying by Julian’s side."

A long silence spread.

Josiah Sutton’s words certainly had some sense.

But Ryan was unwilling to hear it.

"If you keep thinking like this, Josiah Sutton, you’ll never be with Mia again in this lifetime."

...

The rain cleared the day before, and the next day Capitoline looked even more like summer.

The sky was as blue as if washed, the sunlight bright and dazzling.

The good weather didn’t lift Ryan Ford’s foul mood, because overnight, there was no news about Scarlett Shaw’s whereabouts. Moreover, he learned that three days ago, Scarlett hadn’t taken annual leave at all, but had resigned from the company altogether.

In his anger, he rushed to Veridian from the hospital and gave the HR manager a thorough dressing-down.

"Scarlett’s resignation is such a major issue, how could you just agree to it so directly?! Does it not go through President Ford?!"

The HR manager, caught off guard by the sudden tirade early in the morning, was seething with anger but dared not show it, and could only explain patiently:

"Mr. Ford’s Second Son, President Ford is usually very busy, his time is precious. The resignation process of ordinary employees at Veridian doesn’t need his approval."

"Scarlett was in the investment department, her direct superior Manager Miller approved it, and the handover was completed. I was just following the process!"

"There have been quite a few resignations lately, do you want to take a look at them all?"

What’s there to look at?!

He was nearly driven mad with anger!

Ryan slammed the door shut and stormed from HR to the investment department.

Skyler Miller had just finished a meeting and happened to run into a furious Ryan Ford as she came out.

"Mr. Ford’s Second Son?!"

Ryan’s intimidating presence was truly terrifying, and the other people in the investment department wanted nothing to do with him, scattering as if walking on oiled feet.

Fortunately, Skyler Miller was not just a leader in name.

Though puzzled, she kept her composure and asked, "What happened?"

Ryan closed the conference room door and asked aggressively, "You knew Scarlett was dating my brother; why didn’t you report it when she resigned?"

Skyler’s eyes flickered, then she smiled, "Scarlett told me she had a new career direction. President Ford is her boyfriend, he surely knew better than I did. Wouldn’t I seem out of line disturbing President Ford with this?"

Ryan was momentarily at a loss for words, unwilling to accept it, "The last time Scarlett went missing, didn’t you inform my brother?"

"Last time was because we couldn’t contact Scarlett all day. But resigning was Scarlett’s own decision."

Skyler’s response was flawless, giving Ryan no room to argue.

Yet something about it felt off to him.

He stared at Skyler for a while, his thin lips moved, "You usually care about Scarlett, was there anything unusual when she talked to you about resigning?"

Skyler shook her head.

That answer was clearly not what Ryan wanted.

It felt like being trapped in a black hole, unable to grasp any reason, all the causes he couldn’t find were swallowed by darkness.

Skyler said goodbye and went off to her own work.

Annoyed, Ryan took the elevator to the underground parking lot.

He caught sight of Aaron Carson opening his car door not far away, suddenly realizing something, he rushed over and pinned him against the car door, viciously demanding:

"Wasn’t my brother supposed to have you keep an eye on Scarlett? Hmm? Where did you let her slip away to?!"

Skyler being a woman, Ryan was still somewhat courteous.

But with Aaron Carson, he had no such intention to hold back.

He even carried a grudge from when they pretended to be a couple to deceive him in the past.

Thrown against the car body, Aaron Carson was caught off guard, biting his tongue, a bloody taste filled his mouth, and without thinking, he swung a fist.

"Mr. Ford’s Second Son, mind your manners."

Aaron straightened his suit and glanced disdainfully at Ryan Ford.

Didn’t he understand that men shouldn’t touch each other so familiarly?

"Have you followed Scarlett out to the Pacific Ocean?" Ryan demanded again with a sinister face.

Aaron realized Ryan wasn’t joking, his heart sank, he said, "After Scarlett asked for leave to specially accompany President Ford, how could I conveniently keep watching?"

Ryan sneered, "She didn’t take leave; she resigned! You’re in the company and didn’t even catch wind of that?"

Aaron’s expression was shocked and displeased.

It was obvious that he learned about Scarlett’s resignation only from Ryan at that moment.

Though ordinary employee resignations didn’t need to go through Julian Ford, HR would periodically inform him, just to make leadership aware of the situation.

But Aaron had been so busy lately, with a pile of crucial work waiting to be handled, he simply didn’t have time to care who came and went. 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦

"Scarlett resigned and left! My brother is still lying in the hospital bed; how are we supposed to explain when he wakes up?!"

"Left? What do you mean?"

Aaron’s pupils widened with disbelief, preferring to believe he misheard rather than believe Scarlett really left.

This was simply unlike something she would do.

But Ryan’s menacing face didn’t show any signs of lying, his eyes were red with anger and urgency.

A thought flickered in Aaron’s mind, he moved his lips, but then closed them again.

Ryan caught his momentary oddity, demanding harshly, "What do you know? Speak up!"

"A few days before President Ford’s surgery, the Chairman had a private meeting with Scarlett, but..."

Before he finished, Ryan turned abruptly with a smirk of disdain and left.

The Cayenne’s engine roared to life in the basement and drove off.

Aaron stood still for a while, replaying Ryan’s words in his mind.

Ryan had said Scarlett left, not disappeared, meaning that Scarlett had left on her own.

This point in time, the boss was still in the hospital, and then Scarlett left?!

Isn’t that more like a tall tale?!

It’s true that Ezra Ford had looked for Scarlett, but before Julian’s surgery, the boss seemed to have noticed something odd with Scarlett and had already asked him about it.

He had promised Scarlett not to bring it up, but if the boss asked, he would certainly not hide it.

And as the boss knew about it, presumably he also had a conversation with Scarlett.

Could it really be that after the conversation, she was directly angered into leaving?

...

Ryan sped all the way to Ford Mansion.

Ezra Ford was preparing to go to the hospital to see Julian Ford, but just as he approached the door, he faced Ryan’s fiery expression:

"Old man, did you force Scarlett to leave my brother?!"
