Pestilence: Rise Of The Pure Undead-Chapter 567: Crimson Day
The living soldier's heart beat one last time before everything was rendered to this realm's afterlife, spurting blood as it was cleaved right down the middle, the blood left behind soon turned to spirit life as well.
It seemed like the realm itself was hostile to the invaders, their bodies were being broken much faster than that of any regular being native here.
That fact was completely lost on the rest of the soldiers, much more focused on the fact that an arguably talented warrior had been defeated without the enemy even needing to move any of their four limbs.
"Did she slice him with just a thought?"
"Don't look at us and keep your eyes on the enemy… It was probably a swipe of that tail"
"Mmh… there is no blood on it…"
"Because it strikes too fast for blood to latch on"
Spears were held forward, shields still held up despite the fact that they were clearly as useful as air right now.
'That tail of hers is also awfully long… And she seems to have full control over it- Its flexibility is great, like it has no bones at all…'
"Were absolutely going to die"
"Isn't that a good thing?"

"Yes, but no, we aren't supposed to just die without doing anything, we are soldiers, we're supposed to be killing enemies, if we die without even putting up a fight, it would be a dishonour to our true selves in undeath"
Iliz was listening to their babbling, hearing everything perfectly thanks to her yrztul ears, but despite this, she wasn't understanding any of it, even when trying to recognise the sounds and patterns in the language, it wasn't of much use, in fact, many of them had differing accents or seemed to stumble upon a few words, as though not used to the tongue they were conversing in.
'Weird' she thought, piercing the forehead of a random soldier, the thinness and sheer precision of her tail allowing him to walk around and try to garble some words togethers before collapsing to the ground like a sack of bricks, his remains quickly broken down.
It was then that they decided to attack, still maintaining the cohesion of their formation and attacking at the proper timings to prevent getting into each other's way, after all, the main problem from one against many battles for the side of the many, was that only so many people could attack a single opponent at any given time, so even if there were technically a hundred of them, only a handful could try their luck and poke at her with their spears.
Well, that was how regular soldiers would go at it, Iliz was dealing with fanatics that were high on the idea of achieving their perfect self in death, the only fear she smelled was that of not doing enough, of being inconsequential, of failing to earn glory for themselves.
It was saddening really, throwing their lives away so readily, only for the fear of death to consume their very being the instant it seized them, whether or not they would achieve a better state of being in undeath, the Divine Dancing Priestess did not know, perhaps undeath was best to the livings from outside, maybe it was not.
Who was she to tell? All that she knew was that the Emerald Realm was being targeted and even if Iliz felt some pity for those soldiers, that did not slow the pace at which she cut them down, chestplate, helm and shield were carved through like they were nothing, their durability incapable of stopping the refined crywlerz tail she had earned through communion with those bat-like, land creatures.
They used it to hold onto branches and soar through the trees as well as strangle their prey unconscious before begin to feast on them whilst it still lived, but Iliz was a priestess of the beast worshipper, the tail sprouting from her lower back was many times greater than that of the creature it had originated from.
As sharp as a razor, heads were split, upper and lower halves were separated, organs were pierced, throats were slit, each strike was exactly as she intended, bringing the target down with only one hit.
Even with their uncanny coordination and bravery, none could get close.
It was a massacre, but a clean one, much different from others that was taking place a distance away, all around the small hill covered in tall grasses, as well as upon it directly, the beast worshippers were demonstrating their more feral side without restrain.
Nature was far from gentle afterall, the majority of creatures lived in dire competition of one another, brutal efficiency or simple brutality was favoured to survive, the beasts of the Emerald Realm were no exception, and perhaps even more harsh in that regard, none of them were still around by sheer dumb luck, you were either a force to be reckoned with, an expert at evading and hiding, or simply capable of reproducing faster than your predators could hunt you down.
And even then, there were no beasts that were truly harmless, if necessary, even the weakest herbivore would try its luck and attempt to slaughter whatever was threatening its existence.
Oftentimes, the most awful of injuries and kills were done by those who were not meant to go up against another beast regularly.
Such was why countless soldiers in white were left as bloody messes on the ground without turning to spirit life, gravely wounded, but not yet dead as they had been eviscerated by antlers or horns, beaten into a crooked mess with concussive force…
For those soldiers to still be trying to crawl and reach an enemy was simply maddening, instead of contorting with agony on the ground, they latched onto blades of grass and pulled their broken bodies, leaving wide trails of blood or further damaging their shattered bones, all in an attempt to maybe score one measly strike that would amount to nothing.
The living soldiers were being massacred as more of them arrived into the realm, these too, throwing themselves into the fray even as it was obvious that they were losing.
'They are showing up with their weapons already in the fighting position… So they know that a battle is currently happening, they must know that they are losing too… Then why do they keep sending out more? To tire us out?' Iliz frowned as heads flew through the air all around, spraying circular patterns of blood as they spun.
Exhausting them might be possible, but Iliz was the only upper member around for the time being, and there more beast worshippers waiting to take the place of those fighting if necessary, not to mention that the sun worshippers were ready to step in as well, with the power difference evident, the most sensible option would to stop fighting, they couldn't have infinite amounts of livings at all, and certainly not an unlimited amount of livings capable of fighting, that had been trained and properly indoctrinated.
'That question can wait… I can clearly see the precise location they are emerging from right now, if we could just seal it…' thinking about this, she picked up a soldier by the ankle and launched him straight at it, the poor man passing right through and ending his course by landing right on his head further away.
'Mmh… We'll see what we can do once this battle is over'
