Pioneer Lord: Starting From Daily Intelligence-Chapter 504 - 6: Bauhinia Holy Flame Foundry and New Territory Specialty_3
The cannon is renowned for repelling countless Green Skin sieges during the Goblin warfare—especially since its cannonballs were not just stone blocks, but also captured live goblins.
The Green Skin’s diving destruction catapult drew from the dwarves’ experiences and is one of the strongest artillery units of the Green Skin. Goblins are mounted on the catapult, referred to as Doomsday Paratroopers. How high they can fly largely depends on the quality of their handmade beast skin wings, but an even more important factor is how tightly the others can wind the strings.
During launch, the operators pull the Doomsday Paratrooper back with all their might and then release their hands, creating a huge "clang"! The Doomsday Paratrooper shoots into the sky like a bullet, quickly soaring into the clouds before beginning his descent. The little fellow uses his wings to glide and guide himself towards a chosen target. Accompanied by the speed of the descent, most goblins scream out loud, and the closer they get to the ground, the louder and shriller the scream becomes.
Before the enemy even has time to panic, the diving Doomsday Paratrooper swiftly becomes a dense black dot charging forward. Upon contact with the ground, the Green Skin may turn into a mess of flesh, but if he can effectively use the wings for cushioning and has a little luck, he can rebound at ground level. Either way, the Doomsday Paratrooper inflicts considerable damage on the enemy he’s charging at.
This gigantic screaming and whistling sound has become one of the most terrifying nightmares for the Order Faction. Meanwhile, Green Skins worship and yearn for this position; they revel in all sorts of exhilarating activities like high-speed racing. Such a thrilling contraption is enough to drive them wild, and it brings death and terror to the opponents, blasting dwarves’ brains higher than fountains, making it one of the most popular professions among goblins.
The Territory values this diving destruction catapult tremendously for one reason only: Oerstein reported sightings of such weapons by goblins in the Blood Pine Forest.
This implies that humans may have to engage in artillery warfare with goblins.
If a cannon battle were to occur at the current level, humans and dwarves might not necessarily defeat the goblins’ diving destruction catapults. After all, those goblins and goblins indeed bind glider wings under their arms, capable of shooting with high accuracy.
Human cannons and artillery are just basic firearms, unable to compete with Green Skin’s top artillery forces.
Humans wanting to defeat them solely through buying cannons would face difficulty and massive losses.
Hence, they must spare no expense to build an exclusive cannon factory in the Hesse Territory first.
The Bauhinia Holy Flame Foundry currently can create a cannon in 1 to 2 months. If future materials are abundant and rare metals plentiful, the pace might accelerate to one cannon per month, perhaps even producing powerful organ cannons.
But at the current progress rate, by the end of next year, the Territory could successfully forge 10 cannons.
This device, while having minimal lethality against high-ranking infantry and cavalry, works wonders against swarms of goblins, goblins, and kobolds; it demolishes them by the hundreds. These monsters have low morale, and perhaps after a single volley from the 10 cannons, an entire squadron of goblins would be shaken and scatter.
Regardless of the damage, it’s truly effective for delaying the opponent’s offensive.
More crucially, should Hesse Territory open outward and attack other Pioneer Lords’ castles, this cannon would serve a critical role.
By then, a hundred knights with two or three hundred armed attendants surrounding a castle below could easily manage; these 10 cannons, firing one after another for a hundred or eighty days, would exhaust the defenders’ repair materials, blowing open the walls.
This army needn’t worry about the opponent’s troops charging out, for their weapons are truly depicted as having flame runes inscribed on the blades, as described in the Hesse Armament Record.
Hesse Territory’s Fire Spike Crystal is tremendously abundant. Even a fine-level weapon would have Fire Spike Crystal engravings.
These gemstones appear unassuming when embedded in Long Halberds, Warhammers, and Sharp Swords, like ordinary decorative stones. Yet, when the battle rages, and knights unleash heavy strikes and combos, this blade immediately envelops itself in fierce red flames, dealing powerful flame damage upon hitting the enemy.
Rune weapons are even more potent, significantly enhancing flame power and leave flammable marks on the enemy upon hitting them. The opponent immediately gains a fear of flames trait, making even ordinary damage inflict burning flame effects afterward.
Plus, all newly crafted fine-level weapons are quenched using Magic Spring Water infused with white flowers from Moon Crown Trees. When near demons, these weapons display divine golden light.
Such a weapon, enchanted and adorned with Fire Spike Crystals, is incredibly valuable; it has earned fame as a local specialty in the Northern Border Prince’s Territory and is regarded as a famous sword of the era by many knights, cherished highly.
The price of one such weapon has soared to over 20 Golden Crowns, nearing the cost of Dwarf Heavy Armor.
It is said that once, a King of Mercenaries, Drake Zor, used two such swords to win the favor of a Baroness of the Border Prince’s Territory.
