Chapter 527 - Want to Learn? I'll Teach You

The three Genesect slowly awoke.

When they looked at Johan again, their expressions had softened significantly.

Although Johan couldn't prove he'd definitely help them return to their original home, he'd at least shown them the vision they longed for. That was enough for them to hold onto hope.

If they could "go home" without stealing someone else's, they'd much rather avoid hurting others.

"I'll find you a home," Johan promised again.

In the original story, the Genesect eventually found a place similar to their long-lost homeland. But searching for such a place might take time.

And if he couldn't find one?

Then he'd build a simulated habitat for them!

There was no way the Unova League wouldn't be willing to support five Genesect. And if not, the Hoenn or Sinnoh League surely would.

Johan believed in his ability to get support—from Steven and Devon Corporation, if necessary.

He had no qualms about making the promise.

"I believe you," the Ice Drive Genesect said, now free of the red chain, yet still the first to express trust in Johan.

The other three looked at each other, hesitated slightly, then nodded slowly.

They were used to following commands, not making decisions for themselves. But Johan didn't mind.

"I'll help you learn to think for yourselves," he said with a smile.

"I said earlier I'd feed everyone..."

So Johan made a generous offering—distributing plenty of Pokéblocks, not just for the Pokémon living at the sanctuary but for the four Genesect too.

"Geno, Geno!"

Even the local Pokémon were won over by the delicious Pokéblocks—let alone the Genesect, who had never tasted such things. Three hundred million years ago, this kind of food didn't exist.

During their time under Colress's control, they had only been given nutrient fluids.

So when they tried these tasty, novel snacks?

They were instantly conquered.

Their distrust of Johan vanished.

They weren't fools—capable of telepathic communication, they could sense Johan's kindness through his aura. His actions confirmed it too.

As for the local Pokémon, Johan and his team had defended their home. Though some had been hurt, and the Genesect's earlier actions caused discomfort, they could understand.

Still, the Genesect were subtly ostracized—Johan noticed how they were slightly isolated when he handed out snacks.

Thankfully, with Nurse Joy and Chansey tending to the injured, tensions were reduced. With help from Gengar, Ceruledge, and Larvitar, the others started to let their guard down.

A Leavanny, after seeing the Genesect weren't full, hesitated, then quietly placed two berries beside them before darting away.

"Geno..."

The Genesect stared at the berries in stunned silence.

Then a Sawsbuck and a Beautifly, sensing the awkwardness, each contributed a berry as well.

Four berries.

The Genesect, already guilt-ridden, felt even worse.

Then they bowed.

"Geno! Geno!"

We're sorry!

"Ka-kaah~ Ka-kaah~~"

Gengar suddenly popped up beside Ice Drive Genesect, laughing as he clapped its shoulder.

"Yoji?"

Larvitar crouched near the berries, glancing from Genesect to the snacks.

You guys not gonna eat these? 'Cause if not... I will!

Despite lingering unease, the sincere apology touched everyone—and the Genesect were forgiven.

Pokémon could tell kindness from malice.

Still, Johan clapped his hands to draw their attention.

"If you made a mistake, you'll be punished."

"Geno." The four nodded earnestly.

Some sanctuary Pokémon looked hesitant—they'd already apologized.

Johan just smiled.

"Then your punishment... is to help rebuild the sanctuary!"

Though he'd tried to keep the fight outside, the damage was still noticeable.

"Geno! Geno!"

Excited by the chance to redeem themselves, the Genesect were full of energy.

Together with the others, they worked tirelessly—and slowly earned full forgiveness.

Well, for those four, anyway.

From a hillside, Johan watched with satisfaction.

"So this... is what Pokémon are like?"

Mewtwo had appeared beside him.

It had watched silently from the sidelines since the battle ended. Now it finally spoke.

"Pretty simple, right?" Johan replied.

Mewtwo nodded. Simple—in a good way.

Having seen the complexity of humans, it found this refreshing.

"No one tried to stop you from coming out?"

Johan was honestly surprised.

No reaction from Team Rocket?

"No one can stop me." Mewtwo's tone was flat, but the pride was unmistakable.

Tch.

"Porygon-Z covered for me," it added.

That made sense.

"So, that Mega Stone of yours..."

"This one?"

Mewtwo held out its Mega Stone Y, its power clear to the senses.

It explained:

During the battle between Deoxys and Rayquaza, Mewtwo had, through a data link from Porygon-Z, absorbed some of the life energy that drove Deoxys berserk.

That energy fused with Mewtwo's own power, forming the Mega Stone Y.

Johan once again felt his Key Stone react to Mewtwo's stone.

Could he Mega Evolve Mewtwo?

The thought was thrilling.

But... could he even handle it?

They weren't officially bonded.

But Johan knew—capturing wasn't a requirement for Mega Evolution.

"Oh right."

He took out a box of Pokéblocks and macarons, offering them to Mewtwo.

"Saw you didn't eat earlier. Not sure which ones you'd like, so... here's all of them."

He smiled at the busy Pokémon around them.

"I've had these ready for a while. Figured you'd like them."

Psychic-types loved certain flavors. With Gardevoir and Gallade at home, Johan always had some on hand.

Mewtwo turned to glance at the stream.

Not gonna take it?

Or embarrassed?

Then—whoosh—a psychic force lifted the snacks from Johan's hand and floated them to Mewtwo, who still had its back turned.

Johan rubbed his chin.

Was that... tsundere behavior?

"Mmm..."

The red Genesect leader clutched its head and stood up shakily.

It opened its eyes... and saw Johan smiling kindly.

It froze.

Backpedaled several steps.

Flashes of the "dream" surged through its mind. It shuddered.

"Ge-Geno?"

Wh-what do you want?

Then the other Pokémon and the four Genesect surrounded it.

Seeing the locals wasn't scary.

But seeing its own comrades standing with Johan?

The Genesect leader broke.

Johan stepped forward.

It stepped back.

He nodded in satisfaction.

Perfect.

Psychological damage: confirmed.

"Still want to take over this place?" Johan asked, smiling with that "nuclear kindness."

The Genesect flinched.

That same smile... was the one he wore in the dream. Right before ten legendaries jumped it.

A totally unfair, full-team beatdown.

And they didn't hold back.

It shook its head quickly. Stepped back again.

Johan grinned wider.

Excellent.

Some people only understand strength. It thought it could act just because it was strong.

Now? It had been humbled.

"My offer stands. I'll help you find a home. The choice is yours."

The Genesect leader looked like it wanted to cry.

"Th-thank you..." it said telepathically.

Before it could finish—

"Ka-kaah!"

Gengar popped up behind it, red eyes glowing.

"You said what now? Say it again, pal."

Hum—

Mewtwo appeared beside Gengar, arms crossed, giving it a side-eye like, You sure about that?

"...H-hoping... to find a home," it replied nervously.

Gengar snorted.

"Ka-kaah~~"

I liked you better when you were rebellious. Think you can go back to that?

The Genesect said nothing.

Thus ended the Genesect incident.

Now, Johan would help them find—or build—a home.

As long as they behaved.

And they would.

They had no cassette drives. No control. And no will left to resist.

The sun dipped toward the horizon.

The Pokémon Sanctuary was slowly being rebuilt.

Mewtwo leaned against a tree branch, arms folded, watching the busy Pokémon with an unreadable expression.

It flipped its hand—holding a Pokéblock.

It studied it for a moment, about to eat it when—

"Ka-kaah~~"

Gengar peeked out of the tree's shadow, staring curiously at Mewtwo.

It looked familiar somehow.

But Mewtwo noticed. It paused, hid the snack, and looked over.

"Gastly."

"Ka-kaah!"

I'm Gengar! Gengar!

Mewtwo nodded.

"Alright, Gastly."

"...."

Gengar scratched its head. Didn't know what to say.

"You're not bad," Mewtwo added.

"Ka-kaah!"

Gengar perked up. Was that a compliment?

"But your ability lacks flexibility," Mewtwo continued.

"Ka-kaah?"

Flexibility?

"Like this."

Mewtwo lifted a hand, three fingers spreading. Psychic and spiritual energy swirled together.

Gengar leaned closer.

It looked like a special attack... but something felt off.

It felt... physical?

If Johan were here, he'd recognize it immediately.

Mewtwo's exclusive move: Psystrike.

A special attack that calculated damage using the opponent's physical defense.

In reality, its properties were even stranger.

Gengar's eyes lit up.

Mewtwo smirked.

"Want to learn it? I'll teach you."
