Pokemon: This Ash Is Too Versatile-Chapter 669 - 359: Elite Level vs. Elite Level, Showdown of Two Monsters! (2)
But noticing is one thing, Ash could never know how Gary managed to train Blastoise to the Elite Level in just a month; all of this is owed to the memory he obtained after the Quartz Conference ended.
"Figured it out, Gary, how did you do it? In just a month, you actually trained Blastoise to Elite Level. This speed is even crazier than mine!" Ash said with a sense of wonder.
He was truly curious about how Gary managed to advance Blastoise to such a level in such a short time.
Even for him, without extra help, like the residual power of a top-tier booster, trying to raise a Gym Intermediate Pokemon to Junior Elite Level in a month is quite difficult.
After Gary started his travels, he was generally a bit behind Ash, and as Ash grew stronger, the gap only widened.
At the Quartz Conference, Gary’s ace Blastoise was only Gym Beginner Level, while his own ace Charizard, Gardevoir, and Pikachu were already at Gym Peak.
This gap was closed by Gary in just a month—where did he go to hone his skills? Did he cheat?!
"I’ll tell you after the battle, but first, let me say that this time you can’t use that weird power to boost your Pokemon! Otherwise, who would battle with you?" Gary teased, meanwhile setting a condition for Ash, prohibiting him from using his Aura Power.
Even though he’s received epic enhancement, Ash’s Aura Power can boost his Pokemon so much that Charizard can leap to Champion Level in one go!
Ash’s match with Lorelei had shown this when his Aura Power and MEGA Evolution overwhelmed her Champion Intermediate Cloyster with sheer strength!
It’s important to note that Charizard was only at Junior Elite Level at that time – such a leap in power is just impossible to keep up with!
Even though his Blastoise has reached Junior Elite Level, the difference to Champion Level is still vast!
If Ash used his Aura Power to boost his Pokemon, Gary would just turn around and leave—what’s the point of battling?
"I wouldn’t use it. When the level difference isn’t huge, I never use Aura Power to boost my Pokemon’s strength. I don’t battle by relying on pure level dominance," Ash said with a dismissive pout.
His battling style has always been to fight on an even level, and there has hardly ever been a scenario where his level overpowered others—except in this case.
During the Quartz Conference against Gary, the Pokemon he sent out were either lower in level than Gary’s or matched in level. If he had used his top Pokemon like Charizard then, he could have taken Gary down in six rounds—one round each.
In Ash’s view, such battles are meaningless and can’t even be called battles; they offer no improvement for either himself or his Pokemon. Why fight for the thrill of crushing weaker opponents?
So even without Gary’s mention, he wouldn’t use Aura Power to boost his Pokemon.
"Indeed, that’s your style—not taking on winning scenarios, right?" Gary recalled that Ash hardly ever takes on tailwind battles. If Ash actually used Aura Power, the battle would truly lose its meaning.
After a moment of silence, both simultaneously raised their arms and shouted, "Charizard/Blastoise, MEGA Evolution!!"
Two beams of rainbow light flashed on the field, and in no time, Mega Charizard X and Mega Blastoise appeared on the battlefield.
Professor Oak had unknowingly walked out of the research lab and watched the two MEGA evolved Pokemon in awe, thinking that indeed, times have changed!
Without MEGA Evolution now, it feels like having an arm cut off, unable to reach the peak battles.
Back in their days, there weren’t so many flashy systems like Dynamax, Z-Move, or MEGA Evolution—they had none of these.
They relied solely on the Pokemon’s raw strength, the trainer’s command level, and the bond between trainer and Pokemon.
But now, battles require more than those; one must also rely on their foundational moves.
Possessing Dynamax, MEGA Evolution, and Z-Move as three trump cards makes one quite impressive, allowing them to lead by a step.
Dearest, times have changed!
"Using MEGA Evolution right from the start, you really think highly of me!" Gary said with a teasing smile.
"Likewise, you’re using MEGA Evolution too, aren’t you?" Ash shrugged, his expression then turning serious.
"Charizard, Flamethrower!"
"Blastoise, Water Pulse!"
As soon as the commands were given, the two MEGA evolved Pokemon explosively released powerful energy.
Charizard suddenly opened its enormous mouth, and intense, azure flames with scorching airwaves spewed out, so hot that the air slightly distorted and left shallow scorch marks on the ground it touched.
On the other side, Mega Blastoise’s cannons glowed with a shimmering white light, and its small arm cannons gathered two watery streams; three light blue Water Pulses converged into thick water pillars, with fine water droplets and fierce wind pressure rushing toward the azure flames.
"Boom!!"
The azure flames and light blue water pillars collided violently in the middle of the field, unleashing a burst of ferocious energy.
The heat of the flames and the chill of the water violently clashed, forming a vague white mist barrier. The mist constantly sparked with dazzling flashes and produced low thunderous roars, shaking the ground around the arena. The hot and cold air intertwined and collided in mid-air, with terrifying aftershocks spreading, causing ripples on the already deployed barriers.
Both forces clashed in the air for a dozen seconds. Ultimately, with a roar from Charizard, the strength of the flames surged again, enlarging their range and swallowing the three water streams’ Water Pulses!
"Sizzle!"
The water mist evaporated instantly under the searing flames, turning into a large plume of white smoke, and the water pillars of Water Pulse dissolved, scattering into fine water droplets.
Because most of the power was used to vaporize the Water Pulse, the remaining flames barely retained any strength by the time it reached Blastoise.
The flames scorched Blastoise’s shell, leaving small charred marks, before their energy was depleted.
The clash ended slightly in favor of Charizard.
Gary’s expression turned somewhat grave. The earlier clash clearly showed that even though Blastoise had advanced rapidly, it still wasn’t a match for Charizard in a direct confrontation.
Ash’s Charizard was simply at a monster level.
Setting aside the simple concept of water beating fire, Blastoise’s Water Pulse was enhanced by the Mega Launcher, making it roughly equal in power to Flamethrower.
If you factor in the water attribute’s advantage over fire, the Water Pulse should have gained the upper hand after some stalemate.
But the reality was quite the opposite.
The reason for such a result was singular: Charizard was more powerful in raw strength than Blastoise!
That Charizard... was Mid-Elite Level!
It’s ridiculous beyond belief!
Gary advanced Blastoise to this level through a fortunate encounter, and achieving the same rapid progress again is next to impossible.
So how did Ash, within a single month, elevate Charizard from Gym Peak to Mid-Elite Level?
Just a week ago, during Ash’s match against Lorelei, Charizard was still at Junior Elite Level, and now it’s at Mid-Level? Not even cheating advances you so fast!
These rivals were now both in mutual shock—Ash was stunned at Blastoise’s quick advancement, and Gary was shocked at Charizard’s rapid progress. Meanwhile, Professor Oak, as the third-party observer, simply thought—these two are freaks!
