Pregnant During An Apocalypse [BL]-Chapter 134 - Safe spot
Chapter 134: Chapter 134 - Safe spot
Muchen could barely breathe. His long legs were cramped between the two girls, while his upper body was practically folded in half on top of Shao.
"Are we seriously going to that Amazon warehouse?" he muttered, shifting uncomfortably.
Shao, gritting his teeth, gave a short nod. "Less people, more space, plus sturdy gates. We’ll be able to hold on until reinforcements come to get us."
Muchen exhaled sharply, adjusting his position slightly, but Shao immediately let out a pained grunt.
"You need to lose weight," Shao mumbled, his voice strained.
Muchen’s eyebrow twitched. He reached down and pinched Shao’s cheek.
"Excuse me? Say that again?"
Shao let out a soft hiss of pain but refused to take back his words.
But before Muchen could retaliate further—
A whisper.
A faint, distant sound carried through the dark car.
His body tensed.
"Did you hear that?" Muchen murmured.
He peered down at Shao, expecting an answer, but his best friend just clenched his jaw.
"Shao." Muchen nudged him. "Did you hear something?"
The other boy looked unimpressed. "The only thing I hear is my ribs cracking under your weight."
Muchen rolled his eyes but didn’t let it go. His ears strained, and then—
There.
A faint echo of a voice.
His expression darkened.
"Listen," he whispered, "I think I hear Yunfeng’s voice."
From the passenger seat, Hana’s head snapped back toward him.
"What?"
She fumbled through her pockets before her face fell. "My phone died... I need a phone."
Muchen let out an awkward chuckle, shifting slightly.
"Uh, we’re currently not in a position for me to take my phone out of my pocket." He jerked his chin toward their awkward pile. "Unless someone wants to go digging through my pants right now?"
Hana scowled. "Not funny!"
"I’m serious," Muchen sighed. "Why do you need it?"
Hana’s fingers curled into her sleeves.
"I was talking to Yunfeng," she whispered, her voice taut with worry. "I only got to send him one message before my phone died."
Muchen’s smile faded.
Shao, despite his discomfort, finally grew serious.
"Is he in the city?"
"I don’t know.... I don’t know," hana panicked. "Why did I call him.... Shit..."
Muchen leaned over trying to reach his phone but could not find it, "my phone..."
"It was in your ward...." Shao whispered.
The car lurched to a stop in front of the massive Amazon warehouse, its high metal fences and dimly glowing security lights standing ominous in the night. The place looked mostly deserted, except for a few shadows shifting near the entrance.
"Alright, move," Qiu Yue muttered, gripping the wheel tightly. "In and out, keep it quiet."
"Yeah, tell that to them." Shao jerked his thumb toward the two girls huddled together, their faces pale as sheets.
Muchen winced. "Right... about that..."
They all climbed out carefully, their shoes crunching against gravel. The air was cold, damp, and filled with the distant moans of the undead.
"Hurry!" Hana whispered urgently, her eyes darting around.
Lu Zhi and the taller boy helped lift the girls over the warehouse fence, one by one. Muchen was the last to go, cursing as his leg got caught on the metal spikes.
"Shit! My pants!" he hissed.
"Move your ass!" Shao yanked him down just as a shadow moved nearby.
A low, guttural sound sent chills down their spines.
Everyone froze.
Then—
A zombie sprinted out of the darkness. It was a young man in business suit. One of his eyes looked like it was gourged out and bitten off.
"HOLY SHIT, IT’S FAST!" Muchen yelled.
This wasn’t like the slow, groaning corpses they’d encountered before. This one twitched violently, its head snapping in unnatural angles, its entire body convulsing like it was having a seizure. And worst of all—
It was fast.
It darted toward them, limbs jerking wildly.
The two girls took one look at the horrifying, twitching zombie—
And shrieked.
Loudly.
Piercingly.
Horrifically.
"SHUT UP!" Shao roared, but it was too late.
The screech echoed through the warehouse yard.
A chorus of answering growls rumbled in the darkness.
The shadows moved.
"Run!" Lu Zhi yelled, shoving the group toward the warehouse doors.
Muchen grabbed Hana’s wrist and sprinted, his heart slamming against his ribs.
"OPEN THE DOOR!"
The shutter door loomed before them—locked, red light blinking on the scanner.
"It’s locked!" Hana cried, smacking the metal panel.
"No shit!" Muchen snapped, whipping his head around.
Behind them, the twitching zombie let out a choking screech and lunged at the taller boy and the school girls. He barely dodged, tripping over his own feet.
The girls shrieked again.
Shao grabbed the taller boy by the collar, yanking him upright. "I swear to god, if you fall one more time—!"
"Watch out!" Lu Zhi shouted.
Another zombie in a security uniform was rushing towards them, arms flailing erratically. Unlike the twitching one, this one looked fresh, its uniform still neat but soaked in blood, ID badge dangling from its chest.
Qiu Yue moved without hesitation.
With one hand, he snatched a pair of surgical scissors from his pocket.
With the other, he grabbed the zombie’s collar and pulled it forward—its rotten breath gaggingly close.
And in a swift, precise motion—
He stabbed the scissors deep into its eye socket.
The zombie let out a wet gurgle, arms spasming.
Qiu Yue didn’t wait. He ripped the ID card off its uniform just as the body collapsed limply onto the ground.
"try this!" he tossed the ID to Muchen.
Muchen barely caught it, his hands slick with sweat.
With shaking fingers, he swiped the card.
The scanner beeped green.
"GO! GO!"
The doors slid open, and they poured inside, tripping over each other.
The moment the last person was in, Shao slammed the emergency shutter button.
The metal shutter rattled down, screeching loudly.
As it neared the bottom—
The twitching zombie flung itself forward, its body convulsing violently as it tried to squeeze under the closing shutter.
"Oh, hell no!" Shao kicked its head, the force snapping its neck at an unnatural angle.
But it didn’t stop moving.
Its jaw chattered rapidly, eyes rolling in different directions, arms spasming as it clawed at the floor.
Lu Zhi dropped down and grabbed the nearest object—a fire extinguisher—and smashed it down onto the zombie’s skull.
Once.
Twice.
Crack.
The thing twitched one last time before its body stilled, head caved in.
The shutter clanged shut, locking them inside.
Silence.
Heavy breathing filled the air as everyone stood frozen, chests heaving.
"What the fuck was that thing?!" the taller boy gasped, gripping his knees.
"That was not a normal zombie," Muchen muttered, eyes fixed on the corpse.
Shao nudged it with his foot. "No shit. It looked like it was on fast-forward or something."
"Some kind of mutated infection?" Qiu Yue mused, wiping blood off his hands with a handkerchief. "A virus doesn’t just stay the same forever. It adapts."
Hana swallowed hard. "You mean... there could be more like that?"
A horrible silence fell over them.
Then—
A horrified scream.
One of the girls collapsed to her knees, clutching her arm.
Her sleeve was torn, blood oozing out.
She had been bitten.
The group froze.
The air turned ice-cold.
Shao’s face darkened. "Who did that?"
The girl shook violently, sobbing. "I-I d-don’t know—I think—when we were running—!"
Her friend stumbled away from her. "N-No! Stay back!"
"Don’t—don’t say that! I-I can be fine, right?" The bitten girl looked around desperately. "Right?!"
No one answered.
Muchen closed his eyes, then let out a slow breath.
"Please... please help me... I don’t want to die."
The girl’s sobs echoed through the warehouse, her arms trembling as she clutched her wounded shoulder.
Muchen couldn’t meet her eyes. His chest felt tight.
They had fought so hard to make it here, and yet— just like that—she was doomed.
He clenched his fists.
"We... What do we do?" His voice was hoarse, filled with helplessness.
Shao let out a deep sigh, pressing his fingers against his temples. "For now... let’s tie her up. We’re not sure if everyone turns when they’re bitten."
The girl’s eyes widened in terror.
"No! No, no, please—don’t do this!" She stumbled backward, shaking.
"Just listen to us!" Lu Zhi stepped forward, tears brimming in his eyes.
But the girl shook her head violently.
"I don’t want to turn into one of them! I don’t want to die!" she screamed before spinning on her heel and running deeper into the warehouse.
A cold chill passed over them.
Lu Zhi’s voice wavered. "Should... should we go after her?"
Shao let out a slow, exhausted breath. He placed a hand on Lu Zhi’s quivering back, patting it lightly.
"No... Let her be." His voice was low, firm.
Muchen’s stomach churned. He knew what that meant.
The girl was as good as dead.
A silence stretched between them, thick and suffocating.
Finally, Shao straightened up, his expression hardening. "Listen up."
"Everyone, grab a weapon. We exterminate every zombie in this place and lock down all the doors. This will be our home until rescue comes."
