Not far away, the moment Jiang Xueli got out of the car, Aunt Jiang pulled her aside.

She wiped the corners of her reddened eyes with the back of her hand.

Anxious, Jiang Xueli kept asking questions and even reached up to help her mom wipe her tears. “Mom, what’s wrong? Say something! You’re freaking me out!”

Aunt Jiang shook her head. “I’m fine, but I need to ask you something very important. You have to answer honestly, okay? You can’t lie to me—this is serious.”

Jiang Xueli nodded firmly. “Okay, whatever you want to know, I’ll tell you.”

Aunt Jiang swallowed nervously, her voice trembling. “Tell me the truth—was it you who asked President Lin to help with our family’s situation? Otherwise, how would he know what happened?”

“President Lin?” Lili didn’t even have time to ask why her mom was calling Lin Zhengran that. She quickly explained, “He was right there next to me when I got the call, so he heard everything and came with me.”

“He was next to you? You mean… you two were together today?!”

“Yeah, we were. Why?”

“What were you two doing together?!”

“I was practicing a song, and he was sitting nearby, helping guide me here and there.”

“In your room?”

“Uh… yeah, in my bedroom.”

Aunt Jiang’s eyes quivered. So her daughter really had been spending time alone with this President Lin lately… “Lili, let me ask you—do you still like Ranran?”

Jiang Xueli looked even more confused. “Why are you suddenly asking me that? Of course I do. He’s my boyfriend.”

Aunt Jiang’s voice was shaking now. “Then… how far have you gone with this President Lin? Have you two just had dinner, or have you… slept together…”

“What?!” Jiang Xueli’s face turned bright red. She glanced around—thankfully, no one was paying attention to them. “Mom! What are you saying?! There are people around!”

But Aunt Jiang was deadly serious, gripping her daughter’s arm tightly. “Tell me the truth! What stage are you at? Don’t lie to me! Speak!”

Jiang Xueli looked down, face burning, and rubbed her small fists together as she shyly admitted, “We’ve… we’ve slept together. I’ve done that with him.” She looked up. “But what does that have to do with today’s situation?!”

It was like lightning struck Aunt Jiang.

Her daughter had already slept with that powerful CEO…

Her knees nearly buckled. But before she could fall, her husband suddenly rushed over. “Honey, honey! It’s a misunderstanding! A big misunderstanding!”

Aunt Jiang turned to him, her voice filled with despair. “Misunderstanding what?! There’s no misunderstanding. Lili already slept with that President Lin! It’s already happened!”

Uncle Jiang’s face flushed as he realized his daughter had actually done that with a man, but he quickly tried to clarify. “No, no, I mean we misunderstood who he is! That President Lin… is Ranran! Lili didn’t do anything wrong!”

Aunt Jiang was still crying. “What do we do now… Wait, what? What did you just say?” She looked up, startled.

Uncle Jiang, clearly a bit embarrassed, repeated, “I said, President Lin is Lin Zhengran! He’s Ranran—not someone else!”

“Ranran? You’re saying President Lin is Ranran? That’s impossible!” Aunt Jiang was stunned.

“I didn’t think so either at first, but…” Uncle Jiang pointed toward Pan Lin, who was talking to Lin Zhengran. “Didn’t you see President Pan personally greet Ranran? Turns out, Ranran is the CEO of Zhengshi Company!”

He then looked at his daughter and asked, “And you really slept with Ranran? When did that happen?”

Jiang Xueli’s face was bright red. “Dad, Mom! Why do we have to talk about this kind of stuff now? Aren’t we supposed to be here to deal with the factory mess? Also, tell me first—why were you crying? And why was Mom asking me all those questions?”

The couple exchanged a glance. The mood suddenly grew a bit awkward.

Half a minute later.

After hearing the full story, Jiang Xueli stared at them in disbelief, her expression completely unimpressed and speechless. The tension was gone.

Her parents, on the other hand, looked extremely guilty.

Jiang Xueli said flatly, “Dad, Mom… What the h**l is going on in your heads? What kind of imagination do you have? You seriously thought I was being kept? That I was having meals with some President Lin? Why would you think I’m out here dating other men? I’m loyal, okay? Have you ever seen me talk to any other guy besides Zhengran?”

Uncle Jiang awkwardly scratched his head and laughed dryly. “Well… your dad kind of assumed that big company CEOs were always middle-aged guys in their forties or fifties. Who would’ve thought it’d be Ranran? And then President Pan said you were really close to President Lin, so I just misunderstood.”

“Dad… couldn’t you have just asked Pan-jie directly? She was standing right there.”

“Sorry, Lili…”

Jiang Xueli sighed.

“Yeah, I know the entertainment industry can be kind of messy. And sure, there are a lot of girls in our music company who want to be taken advantage of by Zhengran. But ever since I decided to study music, he’s been there protecting me—he’s always watching over me, and he’d never let anything happen to me. I’ve never had to worry about that kind of thing, okay?”

She added,

“And even if—if—we ever ran into something we couldn’t fix, the first person I’d go to is Zhengran. Not some fake ‘President Lin’ you imagined. I only like Zhengran. Can you please get that through your heads?”

The couple nodded.

Both at once: “We get it. We know you love Ranran. It was just your dad and I overthinking things.”

A family of overthinking champions.

Then Aunt Jiang realized something else. “Wait, Lili, did you just say there are lots of girls in your company who want to be taken advantage of by Zhengran?”

Jiang Xueli blushed, letting out a helpless snort. “Yeah, and it’s a lot. Every time Zhengran comes to the company, those girls get all excited trying to talk to him. But with me around, that’s all they can do. None of them are getting near him.”

With that, the family finally made their way back to find Lin Zhengran.

Lin Zhengran had just finished hearing the details from Pan Lin. When he saw the three of them approach, he asked, “Lili, Uncle, Auntie—have you talked things through? Everything okay?”

Uncle Jiang chuckled awkwardly, trying to smooth things over. “Ranran… uh, President Lin… sorry you had to witness that. We’re fine. It was just a lot all at once, and we got a little emotional…”

Aunt Jiang still couldn’t believe that Ranran turned out to be the boss of such a huge company. Her tone was noticeably more formal. “Ran… President Lin…”

Lin Zhengran grinned. “Uncle, Auntie, please don’t call me that. Just call me Ranran like always. ‘President Lin’ sounds way too distant—I wouldn’t even know how to respond.”

The couple exchanged glances, then smiled and nodded.

Lin Zhengran said, “Alright, let’s find somewhere to sit and talk. Tell me everything about what’s going on with the factory.”
