Prosperous Marriage: Married to My Brother-in-law-Chapter 54 Sending Him Clothes - 1
Chapter 54: Chapter 54 Sending Him Clothes - 1
On one side was familial love, on the other was romantic love; no matter which side she chose, it would hurt her.
Scarlett Taylor fell silent.
She had been so focused on finding her eldest daughter as soon as possible that she hadn’t considered where her younger daughter would stand once the elder was found. Now that Glades Horne and Julia Bluen had their marriage certificate, and had even spent the previous night together in their marital villa, solidifying their status as husband and wife, she couldn’t possibly ask Julia to give up Glades. Besides, when her elder daughter had run away, it was Julia who had calmed Glades’s simmering rage. In recent days, she sensed that Glades’s affection for Julia was genuine; he wasn’t treating Julia as a mere substitute for her elder sister. Even if they found her elder daughter, Glades might not be willing to take her back.
If her eldest daughter had given up on Glades, it wouldn’t be an issue. But if she hadn’t, the two sisters would become rivals in love.
When the time came for Glades to face both sisters—one his new love, the other his old flame—how would he choose? She couldn’t be sure.
"I trust Glades! Mom, I will do my utmost to find my sister."
After a brief silence, Julia Bluen suddenly looked up at her mother earnestly, firmly believing that Glades would not play games with her future, convinced that Glades was a responsible man.
"Julia..." Scarlett Taylor hugged Julia tightly, moved by her daughter’s understanding and her faith in her marriage, yet she also felt very sorrowful.
She always seemed to be worrying about her elder daughter, often neglecting the younger one.
「Five minutes later.」
Glades Horne’s car appeared at the Bluen Family villa. As soon as he stepped out, he saw Julia Bluen standing at the Main House entrance waiting for him. A smile spread across his face, and the look in his eyes involuntarily deepened. He strode toward Julia, put his arm around her shoulder—his grip neither too light nor too heavy, just enough to turn her gently—and guided her inside. "Wait in the house next time, don’t stand at the door. If I’m delayed, you’ll get tired of standing," he said in a deep voice.
The sweetness of his wife waiting at the door for him was overwhelming!
It was so sweet that he couldn’t help but break into a smile.
"Glades, you’re here. Have a seat." Scarlett Taylor was still on the sofa, her earlier worried and sorrowful expression long since concealed—people are, after all, adept at hiding their true feelings. She spoke to Glades Horne with a faint smile. She hadn’t stood up; upon hearing his footsteps, she had quickly hidden Ruby Bluen’s photograph beneath her. As she turned her head, she happened to see the bag Julia had brought in from outside. She casually pushed it to the far edge of the sofa, saying, "Julia, what clothes did you buy? Why don’t you take them to your room first."
"Oh, I almost forgot!" Julia Bluen exclaimed. She gently removed Glades Horne’s hand from her shoulder, quickly walked over to pick up the bag, then turned and handed it to him. "I was shopping with a friend earlier and saw a suit that would be perfect for your build. You’ll look great in it, so I bought it for you."
Glades Horne took the bag and calmly pulled out the suit. It was white. He had white suits in his wardrobe, though very few; he still preferred black.
"I think you look better in a white suit, like a Prince Charming," Julia Bluen explained why she had chosen a white suit for him. On the day his wedding date with her sister was confirmed, he had been wearing a white suit. She thought he looked incredibly handsome, just like a Prince Charming straight out of a fairytale.
White has always represented sunlight, while black has signified gloom.
Glades Horne’s mood was capricious, and he chose to like the color black.
Hearing Julia Bluen’s words, he suddenly broke into a warm smile. It was like the first gentle breeze of early spring, brushing across the earth and awakening all living things.
"You don’t dislike it, do you? I notice you almost always wear black," Julia Bluen said, eyeing him uncertainly.
"It’s from you, and the first gift you’ve ever given me. I love it!" Glades Horne chuckled, a peculiar glint flashing in his dark eyes for an instant before vanishing.
How could he possibly dislike a gift from his darling wife, especially the first one?
"That’s good. I was thinking if you didn’t like it, I’d have to give it to my brother," Julia Bluen said, slightly relieved. She missed the fleeting, peculiar look in Glades Horne’s eyes. Stepping forward, she took the suit from his hands and instinctively held it up against him as if measuring. "I wasn’t sure about your size; I just estimated. Hmm, good, it looks like it’ll fit well..."
Her words caught in her throat as Glades Horne’s long arm shot out and, in one swift motion, pulled her into his embrace.
Glades Horne felt a sensation he’d never experienced before. It was sweet, filled with warmth, and it powerfully stirred his senses. He and Ruby Bluen had been in love for many years, and Ruby had given him plenty of clothes, but she had never held them up against him to measure them like Julia was doing right now.
"My mom is still here..." Julia Bluen’s soft voice came from his embrace. ƒreeωebnovel.ƈom
"It’s fine, it’s fine. Lunch should be ready. I’ll go on ahead and sit down in there," Scarlett Taylor said with a tactful smile, rising and heading towards the Side Hall, which served as the dining room. The moment she stood up, the photograph of Ruby Bluen she had been sitting on was completely exposed to Glades Horne’s view.
Gently releasing Julia, Glades Horne took a long stride forward, bent down, and picked up Ruby Bluen’s photograph.
Scarlett Taylor had only taken a few steps when she remembered the photograph. Turning around, she saw what was happening.
She froze for a moment, then quickly stepped forward and took Ruby Bluen’s photograph from Glades Horne’s hand. With a bitter, unexplained smile, she carried the photograph upstairs.
Glades Horne said nothing, but the look in his eyes deepened significantly.
"My mom misses my sister. Actually, we..." Julia Bluen’s words trailed off when Glades Horne turned his profile to glance at her. Her sister was a sore spot for him; she shouldn’t keep bringing Ruby up.
"Let’s go eat," Glades Horne said, pulling Julia Bluen toward the Side Hall. His expression was inscrutable, making it impossible to know what he was thinking.
