Chapter 211: I Can’t Find Her!

Amelia set the coffee down beside her and said gently, "Ms. Morgan, don’t believe what she said. I don’t really know her, but from what I just saw, she’s clearly the type who loves to stir things up."

"Amelia, I want to be alone for a while. You can go," Sophia said.

She looked exhausted. She knew she should trust Lucas, yet Olivia’s words kept replaying in her mind.

Amelia sighed quietly to herself. It was obvious—Ms. Morgan had been affected. Some things had to be figured out on one’s own. No amount of reassurance from others would truly help.

"Ms. Morgan, I’ll step out now. Call me if you need anything," she said.

As she closed the door, she wasn’t sure if her eyes were playing tricks on her—but she clearly saw Sophia crush the report in her hand into a tight ball.

"Sophia... what are you really thinking? Is there really something you can’t figure out? Olivia was obviously just trying to provoke you. You wouldn’t fall for that so easily... would you?"

Sophia leaned back in her office chair, gripping the pen tightly as she kept pulling the cap on and off.

Back when the Morgan Group had fallen into financial crisis, she had wondered who had injected such a large amount of money to save it. She had thought about it for a long time and never found the answer. And now Olivia was saying it was Lucas...

At the beginning, he hadn’t liked her at all. Then suddenly, he changed—so completely that he even used the children to threaten her.

In just a few days, his attitude toward her had shifted so much that it felt... intimate.

How was that even possible?

She had never imagined she would end up with him.

And JL Entertainment—it was Lucas’s company. After Olivia joined, how could he not have known?

What’s more, Olivia had been cornered, fragile as a startled bird. By all logic, she shouldn’t have been able to withstand even a casual blow. Yet again and again, she had managed to turn the tables.

So where exactly had things gone wrong?

Sophia pinched the bridge of her nose, her brows knitting tightly.

She picked up her phone, typed out a message—and deleted it. Again and again.

No matter what, she and Lucas were already married. There had to be trust between them.

She forced herself to suppress the strange unease in her chest.

But just as she turned back to her desk and picked up her pen to begin marking the documents again, she froze—her mind drifting once more...

...

At dusk.

Lucas stood downstairs at the YL Group building, holding a bouquet of flowers. He stood tall and straight, his expensive shirt perfectly tailored, highlighting his lean, upright figure. Even the simplest movement carried the effortless elegance of nobility.

Yet after all the employees had left, he still hadn’t seen Sophia.

Then he spotted Amelia—he remembered her from before.

"Where’s Sophia?" he asked.

"Mr. Hilton, Ms. Morgan she—"

"Hm?"

"Ms. Morgan already left earlier," Amelia said.

...

She already knew everything he had done in the past. She tried hard to trust him, yet Olivia’s smug, gloating face kept flashing before her eyes.

It was unbearable.

A sports car sped down the empty road like a streak of lightning.

...

Lucas’s lips pressed into a tight line.

Sophia already knew everything. And now she didn’t even know how to face him.

Amelia had told him everything she overheard.

Sophia had always ignored Olivia. For her to leave the company today because of Olivia’s words meant only one thing—she truly believed that he was behind all of it.

He wasn’t afraid of anything.

Except her getting hurt.

What kind of bastard things had he done back then?

"Damn it!"

He slammed his fist against the steering wheel.

But when he reached the seaside and looked around, there was nothing—no trace of Sophia anywhere.

Lucas backed into the car again, and the sports car roared off once more.

The beach. The company. The park. Their usual dessert shop...

He searched every place, one by one—

Yet still, there was no sign of her at all.

Lucas felt the heat draining from his body little by little.

He didn’t dare imagine what might’ve happened to Sophia. He had even messaged Kai, ordering him to search the entire city for any trace of her.

It wasn’t until long after nightfall that he finally picked up his phone and dialed her number—the same number he had already called dozens of times.

"The number you have dialed is currently—"

The same recorded message repeated again and again. Before it could even finish, his hand dropped weakly to his side.

"Sophia... where did you go..."

He sat motionless in the car for a long time. At some point, a crack of thunder split the sky, snapping him out of his daze. He started the engine and drove home.

A downpour crashed over the city, but Lucas seemed oblivious, letting the rain soak him to the bone.

By the time he reached the front door, he was slightly hunched over, his wet jacket hanging loosely from his hand.

Mrs. Wilson hurried to answer the bell. The moment she saw him, she gasped.

"Oh my! Young master, what happened to you? Did you not bring an umbrella?"

Lucas’s eyes were unfocused, his expression empty. He didn’t even notice the seven pairs of eyes staring at him from the living room.

Suddenly—

"What happened? Why are you drenched? Mrs. Wilson, hurry, grab a big towel!"

Sophia came out wearing pajamas, her hair lazily tied back, worry written all over her face.

She took the towel from Mrs. Wilson’s hands. "Go rest, Mrs. Wilson. It’s raining and your rheumatism will act up again. I’m here."

Mrs. Wilson smiled, not making a fuss. "Alright then, I’ll leave it to you. I’ll make something delicious for you and the little ones tomorrow."

Sophia gave a small smile, then turned back to Lucas. She rose slightly onto her toes and began drying his hair.

Lucas stared at her, wide-eyed, afraid she was just a hallucination.

"Lucas, are you out of your mind? Walking in the rain without an umbrella? What are you—a lightning rod? You’re a grown man, you can’t just—"

Her nagging stopped abruptly.

Lucas pulled her tightly into his arms, nearly squeezing the breath out of her.

And then she realized—the man holding her was shaking all over.

She froze, then whispered, "Lucas... what’s wrong?"

He struggled to calm the rush of fear and relief flooding him. His voice was low and strained.

"Where did you go today?"

"I—I went home. There wasn’t much to do at work, so I left early and came straight back."

At her answer, he held her tighter, as if he wanted to fuse her into his bones.

"Lucas, you—"

"Why wasn’t your phone working? I called you fifty-two times. One call every five minutes."

Sophia winced at the pressure on her shoulder, bewildered. "Called me? My phone service got cut off. You’d have to be a magician to reach me."

Lucas’s breath caught in his throat. "Cut off? You mean your phone bill?"

Sophia nodded—well, as much as she could while trapped in his arms. "Of course. What, your phone has never been cut off before? There’s no rule saying a phone bill can’t go unpaid."

Lucas genuinely thought he might lose his mind. He had spent four or five hours tearing through the city, terrified she’d disappeared—

And her phone was just out of service.

"If you couldn’t reach me, didn’t the automated message tell you why?" she asked.

Her innocent question made him feel even more like an idiot.

He had been so panicked that the moment he heard the first few words of the message, he’d hung up immediately.
