Raising Ducks for Daily Rewards-Chapter 22: Spell Collections
Fengyu had heard of the festivals in the mortal world but didn’t expect cultivators also used them.
In this world, a month had exactly thirty days.
The first day was called ’First Day of the Month’, the second day would start with the first Monday, the twenty-ninth day would be the fourth Sunday, and the thirtieth day would be the ’Last Day of the Month’.
Between each month, there is a special day – the Twelve Festivals.
On the day between December and January, there is the Winter Solstice Festival, the peak of Yin.
Between January and February, it’s the Festival of Awakening, when Life Qi begins rising.
The following festivals are the Festival of Flowing Waters with the melting of ice and the flow of water.
Spring Equinox Festival, the perfect balance of Yin and Yang, transitioning from yin to yang.
Festival of Blossoms, the peak of Wood Qi.
Festival of Blazing Skies, the rise of Fire Qi.
Summer Solstice Festival, the peak of Yang.
Festival of Thunder, the great rise of Lightning Qi.
Festival of Falling Leaves, the winding and breezing Wind Qi.
Autumn Equinox, the second balance of Yin and Yang, the transition to yin.
Festival of Silent Earth, when the earth hardens, the peak of Earth Qi.
Festival of Rest, a return to stillness, when Death Qi is at its peak.
’Now that I think of it... they contain the Five Elements, Yin and Yang, Life and Death, and Lightning, the most destructive element representing the will of heaven and earth.
It does seem to have some connection to cultivation...’ he thought about it for a moment before shaking his head.
This was beyond what he could understand for now.
"Today is the Festival of Blazing Skies, so it’s understandable that cultivators set up their stalls." He shook his head and pushed back his previous thoughts, instead walking along the stalls to see what the cultivators were selling.
Right away he saw the most common grain and rice, sold at rather low prices.
But when he inspected it shortly, he realised that their quality was rather low.
He wouldn’t even use them as feed!
The cultivator selling them called out to him, but he simply walked away.
"Huh? A spirit hoe of the low-grade?" he was surprised to see a low-grade weapon, and a functional one at that.
A spirit hoe, used to cultivate the fields and raise the earth, even in attack, it has some earth element spell enhancement runes inscribed, having a similar function like the Wood Staff.
He looked at the sign in front of the hoe –
< Second-hand Hoe, only requires minor repairing. 140 spirit stones, no negotiation. >
"A hefty price!" he exclaimed but stopped himself.
’Never mind, the price of a new item might be 150 spirit stones, but only a wooden staff was sold. Who knows whether you would find it again? For the convenience of availability, it deserves a slight increase in price. So a used tool, which should be sold 10–30% cheaper, can be sold for less than 10% cheaper...’
He sighed but didn’t pay any mind.
A herder could still use a staff, but a hoe was rather useless.
The cultivator selling it was middle-aged and had the aura of a sixth-stage cultivator.
’Selling your tools to advance to the late stage... impatient and stupid...’ Fengyu shook his head, not agreeing with this.
The cultivator should rather wait another year than sell his tool.
After selling it, even when he enters the outer city area, he will require spirit stones to rent a field and for various other tasks.
Selling it early really seems stupid.
He walked further and saw various more items – this trade fair had many things, much more than on usual days, where only some basic items such as grain and rice were sold.
Finally, at a rather conspicuous stall, an older cultivator with seventh-stage cultivation had several books in front of him, his eyes closed, paying no attention to the surroundings.
"Senior, with your cultivation, you can enter the outer city area. Why remain in this peripheral area?" Fengyu cupped his hands and asked the cultivator.
"Heh, outer city area? That’s not for an old man like me. What good would it do?
The spiritual power might be higher, but the cost of everything is also higher, and the bustle of the city isn’t great. There is too much pressure on old men like me.
Instead, this safe and quiet area is a lot better!"
"Safe? What about the beasts?"
"Hmm? Beasts? You think the beasts don’t enter the outer city?
You are confused, hah!
The beasts entering the outer city are even stronger!
We, the peripheral area, only block a few weaker beasts.
Those that enter the outer area are stronger or in packs, fighting ruthlessly.
Don’t think that we won’t be attacked by beasts because we have some pacts with the Spirit Beasts –
Those spirit beasts are far and few in this mountain range, their clans barely contending with other beasts. They don’t have the time to care for our troubles."
The old cultivator said a lot, then shook his head and closed his eyes.
Hearing this, Fengyu was shocked!
So, the peripheral area wasn’t the danger area but the noob area?
This...
Only now did he realise – this was the beast mountain range! There was no such thing as peace!
And to be honest, he hadn’t heard of how large this mountain range was.
Was it, as they said, just a mountain range?
Or was it larger?
He knew too little to judge, so he shook his head.
Focusing his attention on the books on the stall, he saw that they were spell collections –
Five Elements Basic Spells, Basic Farming Spells, Basic Herding Spells...
And in the centre – low-grade first-stage Talisman Inheritance!
On the sign in front of the books, the spell collections were priced at 300 spirit stones, and the last book was priced at 2500 spirit stones!!!
He looked shocked at the price.
"Puuuh," he exhaled deeply, calming down, then looked at the spell collections.
After asking, the cultivator opened the book and allowed him to check the index.
He saw that he actually had the spells of all these three spell collections...
’So, my inheritance is really just a combined collection of basic spell collections? Not even a single unique spell?’ Fengyu already knew that his inheritance wasn’t special, but to think it was but a collection, a simple purchase with no shred of thought...
Even though he was thankful, he couldn’t help feeling a bit disappointed.
