Chapter 21: Chapter 21: Purchasing Spells

Fengyu wasn’t very interested in the Birthing Lock Spell, at least for now, it was rather useless.

Such a temporary measure was mainly to control the birthing cycle of beasts, which isn’t a large issue for ducks.

It was the mention of the other spell that interested him –

Going back to the first few pages, he saw the index.

Just as he guessed, in the book there were two spells in two different sections.

Reproduction Organ Dissolving Spell (Mammals) and Reproduction Organ Dissolving Spell (Oviparous).

He flicked the pages and saw the spell he looked for.

Reading the short introduction on the page, it was quite explanatory and gave him a good overview –

Using vitality-absorbing and destroying techniques, this spell could force the duck’s body mechanism to actively absorb the reproduction organ and strengthen its vitality.

Though the issue is that this process takes a long time and at least half the vitality leaves the beasts’ body.

In the end, the contained vitality will only make it 10-15% more valuable than slaughter beasts. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺

When using in conjunction with the Birthing Lock Spell, it can lock down the vitality and internally absorb the whole reproduction organ, allowing the increase to rise up to 30% - some loss is inevitable, since the act of absorbing also uses vitality.

"This is truly a wondrous spell! Although it requires extra effort, it also generates higher profit. Especially since controlling the sex of the beast in the womb is impossible, so having a counter measure is quite good.

And this spell can be used relatively early, meaning I won’t need to keep the ducks for a longer time.

In that case, I can make full use of all the beasts!"

He was worried having a female duck would result in him losing out.

Standing up with the book in his hand, he went to the counter and said, "This is the spell I want. How do I get it?"

"This spell? You can order it right here. Have you prepared the fee?" the clerk asked him, a different clerk from before.

"Fee? There is a fee?" Fengyu looked at him confused, since when was there a fee?

"Of course there is a fee... we aren’t a charity." Hearing such a question, the clerk was surprised such common knowledge wasn’t implanted in this person’s head.

"What is the fee?"

"A hundred spirit stones. The price is the same for every spell. Control Arts cost 300 spirit stones, techniques cost 500 spirit stones and cultivation arts are at 1000 spirit stones."

Fengyu was stunned when he heard this. The cost of the price was one thing, but what shocked him the most was actually... the fact that they sold everything!

In the previous town, he’d be lucky if he could purchase anything but the basic things. There was no way he could get a wide range of things.

Looking over the room, he realised that there were indeed quite a few shelves, probably containing more than he could ever read.

But now wasn’t the time to get something else.

"I don’t have a hundred spirit stones, is there a way to pay later?" he asked since he needed this spell right away. A hundred spirit stones were a large sum he would need at least three months to get currently.

The clerk nodded, "We can also give you the spell directly, but you will have to pay an additional 10% per month until you paid us back."

"10% per month?" he thought about it and nodded. Although high, it would be worth it.

"If you’re willing then give me your villager token to handle this purchase."

Fengyu took out the token and handed it over.

Seeing it was a wooden token, the clerk explained "Temporary citizens can only purchase one spell before their citizenship is approved. Are you sure you want this spell?"

"Yes, it’s fine." Fengyu agreed right away, thinking he was quite lucky they even allowed him to get a spell.

Then again, a spell was only a sheet of paper, and it wasn’t exactly secret knowledge.

The clerk wrote a few things on the jade in front of him before placing the token in a small opening on the side.

A few moments later, he returned the token and told him that the spell would directly be delivered to his doorstep.

Walking out of the library room, Fengyu saw the large boards outside again.

He looked at the missions and saw quite a few rather unimpressive, but among them, a few were non-delivery missions.

< Wooden Bowl Restaurant – we purchase any herding beast meat ranging from chicken to pigs, and also purchase produced items such as eggs, milk and honey. We offer higher prices and fair deals! >

’This one is quite good, suitable for trade! Should I contact them?’

’Hmm... no. I am currently in the process of building a proper cycle of production. I can try contacting them later.

In addition, I should still sell at least half to the general store. If the profit isn’t high enough, then it’s not a worthy deal.’

He shook his head and walked out of the hall.

Looking at the plaza outside, he saw that quite a few stalls were arranged.

A few people were also walking around with open wooden boxes, selling miscellaneous things.

Walking to one of them, he asked, "Why are there so many stalls today?"

"You don’t know?

Well, in the mortal world, they have their festivals on the day between the months, and we cultivators use these days as trade fairs."

"Thank you," Fengyu nodded and handed over a small spirit sand.

One spirit stone could be converted into one hundred spirit stones – but generally no one did so. Spirit sand are the impurities removed from raw spirit stones. They have some spiritual power and a hundred indeed have the same amount as that of a spirit stone, but their purity is too low to be absorbed directly, so they are used as a currency for lower-ranking cultivators.
