Chapter 340: Throne Room, And Evolving

A few hours had passed, and by now, they had made their way back to the capital of the Demonic Lands, Brightspire.

Just like Mal’Tharan, it was carved into a mountain. However, the sheer size of the mountain was at least several times larger than the one he had seen earlier.

Rael gulped audibly as he trailed behind Lilith.

Ever since he had become a Darkness Demon, she had turned quiet and occasionally mumbled some words he couldn’t understand.

And that’s a bit strange because my Draconic Intelligence stat gives me the ability to understand every single Ancient Language there is.

But not the one she was speaking, apparently.

Still, while he followed her into the capital city, he decided to take a glance at a few pop-ups in particular.

<Evolve Race: 1,000,000 Trell>

<You have sufficient funds to evolve the Darkness Demon (Rare) race several times!>

<Evolve Race: 11,111,000,000 [5 Evolutions]>

I really thought this wouldn’t be possible, but...

He didn’t mind it, but 11 billion Trell was a bit much, so he decided to decrease it by a single evolution.

<Evolve Race: 1,111,000,000 [4 Evolutions]>

They entered the city, and all eyes fell on them. Yet, Lilith ignored them all as she led Rael through the streets and into the dark demonic palace at the far end of the capital.

Its entire structure was forged from black stone, with towering spires that spiraled into the sky. Some were coated in glimmering black ice, others shaped from jagged obsidian.

It was as mystical as the other structures he had seen. Still, they entered the palace without any resistance from the guards.

Unlike in Celestara, there were two thrones. One pale silver, the other pitch black.

Lilith quietly approached the pale silver throne and sat upon it, resting her chin on her right hand.

"We’re not getting married," Lilith commented. "You will become the ruler of the Demonic Lands, a King of Demons. Do note that even if you’re the king of demons in just this continent, your status will extend far and beyond. No matter where you go, demons of any species will recognize your status."

It was almost like she was reading off a script.

"Lilith," Rael called out. "I understand the basics of demon royalty, so you don’t need to force yourself to tell me all these things. I get the whole ruling thing, and I’m sure I’ll manage just fine even without knowing when some demon comes around to take a shit."

She paused, staring at him for a few moments before letting out a chuckle.

"I suppose you’re right. I never did get married despite the many proposals... Sorry, this isn’t a marriage." Lilith sighed. "Look. Just be yourself. We demons don’t do speeches. We just perform a short spar for the masses and get on with it."

His brows twitched slightly at her near slip-up.

"Got it..." Rael nodded. "Also, can I use your bathroom?"

She tilted her head and pointed to the left side.

There were a few marble pillars there, but most importantly, a bathroom.

"I’ll be out in a bit, thanks," Rael replied and ran inside the bathroom.

He sat down, opened the premium shop, and bought a potion.

—Sleeping Potion (Uncommon)

Puts the user to sleep for 30 seconds. Only works if the user is willing. The user will not wake up under any circumstances in those 30 seconds.

This was the same one he had used the previous times when evolving, so he didn’t hesitate to uncork it and hold it up to his mouth.

Here goes nothing...

<Evolve Race: 1,111,000,000 [4 Evolutions]>

<Ding!>

<You are...>

.

.

.

<Success!>

Rael opened his eyes, finding himself face-first in the royal shitter.

Thankfully, it was flushed, and the sink was right beside him, so he walked up to it and began washing his face.

Yet as he glanced at the person in the mirror, his expression darkened.

There were three horns sprouting from the sides of his forehead and one from the very center.

They all curved outward, spiraling to form a majestic crown of black horns.

But he also felt a slight difference in his body. Moving was easier, and he felt practically weightless.

And soon, he realized why.

Rael whistled at the changes, and by no means were they small.

His damage increased significantly, and his fear effect even more so.

Added to that...

Rael glanced at the dim corner in the bathroom and approached it.

He reached his hand into the shadow. To his surprise, it went inside.

Rael gulped and pushed his whole body into the shadow. Immediately, he felt as if he was swimming.

Around him was an endless ocean of shadows, and when he swam toward it, he realized he was slowly swimming up the wall.

Swimming downward felt like moving backward. Heading toward the light would eject him from the shadow.

And that was exactly what he did.

It was a creepy feeling, and he didn’t know if he would ever get used to it.

But even so, this was an interesting race, and the effects fit his fighting style perfectly.

With that in mind, he approached the door and walked through it.

He miscalculated the length of his horns a little, so by complete accident, he took out the doorframe alongside him as he innocently approached Lilith.

She seemed deep in thought, but once she noticed him and the three horns sprouting from his forehead, she began coughing violently, nearly choking on her own saliva as she rose from the throne and ran up to him.

She grabbed his shoulders and held them tightly, then stared straight into his eyes with a flustered expression.

"W-What the hell did you do in there?"
