Chapter 35 - Thirty-Five: Abyssal Awakened
Chapter Thirty-Five: Abyssal Awakened
---
[Congratulations! Your Abyssal Core has broken through.]
---
Twilight froze, staring at the notification.
His heart pounded as he quickly summoned his character status, his eyes locking onto a single point.
Excitement and anxiety coursed through his veins.
This was his first step toward becoming unrivalled under the same cultivation realm.
If his Abyssal Core had truly reached the First Stage Magic Apostle realm, then his strength would undoubtedly skyrocket.
Twilight suppressed his emotions and focused on his status screen.

[Abyssal Core Cultivation Base: First Level Abyssal Awakened]
[Abyssal Experience: 0 / 1,000]
"So... the cultivation system for my Abyssal Core is slightly different." Twilight mused.
He clenched his fists, feeling the raw power flowing within him.
He wanted to test it immediately. But soon, he resisted the urge.
He knew where he was... he was in the Deadlands.
Deadlings were everywhere in this godforsaken place. This entire zone was their home.
So he would, without a doubt, meet a deadling. All he had to do was be patient and an enemy would pop out.
Snapping out of his daze, Twilight surveyed his surroundings.
A dense forest stretched around him, the towering trees casting eerie shadows.
Oddly, despite the darkness, he could see clearly as if it were daylight.
He turned back, his gaze falling upon the building he had just escaped from.
A dilapidated palace.
Its once-golden paint had faded, eroded by the unmistakable force of time.
An uneasy feeling crept up his spine. This palace... who had it belonged to? Why was it in a dead zone? Who had constructed it?
"I need to get away from here." He muttered resolutely.
...
An Endless Forest. This was the conclusion Twilight had came to.
He soon realized something wasn't right.
No matter how far he walked, the forest never ended.
There were no signs of life. Only trees. It was like all lifeforms had vanished.
Endless, unforgiving trees were all that filled his vision.
Frustrated and mentally exhausted, he finally sat by a tree to rest.
Rubbing his spatial ring, he retrieved a gem and crushed it.
A large slice of cake materialized in his hand.
He smirked at this sight.
Thank the Sovereign System that spatial rings still worked in the Astral Realm.
Otherwise, he would have been forced to scavenge for food in a place where Deadlings ruled.
Would there even be magical beasts left?
As the scent of the cake filled the air, Twilight's eyes gleamed.
If there was one thing he truly loved, it was food.
Unlike his days in the slums, where such luxuries were nonexistent, this...
This was bliss. Good food was life.
He ate quickly, resisting the urge to indulge further.
A full stomach would do no good. Instead, it would just slow him down.
Just as he got up to continue his journey, the rustling of leaves broke the silence of the night as a figure emerged ahead.
Twilight instantly tensed, summoning his Dark Blade.
"Whoa! Hold it right there!"

The stranger — a young man with long white hair and crimson eyes — raised both hands in the air, his expression terrified.
But the moment he got a closer look at Twilight, his fear immediately vanished.
He readjusted his clothes, puffed out his chest, and cleared his throat.
"I wasn't scared just now," he declared confidently. "I was just... cautious. Yeah, cautious."
He patted his chest, as if trying to convince himself rather than Twilight.
Twilight's lip twitched at this sight.
What the hell did this guy mean by "just cautious"?
Of course they were both cautious!
Seeing Twilight's lack of response, the white-haired young man spoke again.
"I'm Ariel from the Galaxy Wing Association."
Then, with his chest puffed further, he added proudly:
"You're new, right? Well, I've been here for two years, so I know this forest like the back of my hand. Don't worry, so long as you join the association, you'll be safe."
Twilight paused.
Naturally, when the Sovereign System sent individuals into the Astral Realm, there was a high probability that they weren't alone.
However, Ariel's claim that he had been here for two whole years meant that finding a checkpoint was incredibly difficult, which wasn't necessarily impossible.
If there was really a checkpoint in dead zones, then humans and the other races would have long since conquered them.
Then if was Ariel said true... then he probably knew the way out of this endless forest.
As for joining the Galaxy Wing Association?
Twilight wasn't interested — not yet at least.
Not until he understood the full situation in the Deadlands.
After all, there couldn't be only one faction here, right?
Twilight inhaled, his gaze settling on Ariel's confident expression.
"I'm Twilight," he finally said.
Then, carefully watching Ariel's reaction, he added:
"Yes, you're right. I'm a newcomer, and I would like your help getting out of this forest. As for joining your association... I'll think about it."
Ariel's red eyes gleamed. Then he smiled brilliantly.
"I knew you wouldn't join right away. But don't worry, for sooner or later, you will.
"Our leader's charisma is just too overwhelming."
Ariel sighed, admiration clear in his tone.
Twilight frowned as he asked curiously:
"What do you mean?"
Ariel grinned, a cunning look in his eyes.
"You wanna know? How about joining the association?"
Twilight rolled his eyes. This guy's antics were really ridiculous.
Shaking off his mild annoyance, Twilight asked, "So, will you help me out of this forest?"
His tone was firm as he promised.
"I promise to owe you, as well as your association a huge favor."
It was only fair and he didn't see it as overdo.
If Ariel could help him escape, then owing him a debt wasn't unreasonable.
But surprisingly, Ariel simply laughed.
"No thanks! This genius doesn't need your favor."
With an exaggerated grin on his face, he summoned a longsword, placed it on his shoulder and began swaggering away.
"Let's get moving, shall we?"
Twilight rolled his eyes again.
What a shameless guy.
Still, he quickly followed after Ariel.
No way in hell was he getting left behind.
