Rebirth: After Becoming the Villainess-Chapter 85: That Person Is Brother Wanzhang
Song Lianhe took the white fungus soup Shuang Ye handed her and stirred it with a spoon. "He’ll agree."
The three of them looked at her, confused. Xuan Mei asked, "You have a plan?"
Song Lianhe simply smiled, saying nothing.
The next day, she went to the Medical Clinic as usual.
When she stepped out of the carriage, she had already changed into the clinic’s standard indigo long robe and was still wearing her veil.
"It’s the miracle doctor!"
"The miracle doctor is here!"
The people who had long been waiting outside were all thrilled to see her.
Escorted by Xuan Mei and Ah Yu, she entered the Medical Clinic.
Yan Wen stood in the main hall, dressed in the clinic’s uniform. His bearing was exceptional, and with a face as handsome as fine jade, he was a pleasant sight to behold.
"Didn’t I tell you to stay upstairs and study?"
"I just got tired of reading and came down to stretch my legs." He wasn’t a good liar and averted his gaze, looking a little unnatural.
"That’s true. A good balance of work and rest is important!"
Song Lianhe walked up to him and unhesitatingly grabbed his forearm. "Perfect," she said conspiratorially. "I have something to discuss with you. Let’s go upstairs."
Yan Wen froze, looking down in a daze at the slender, fair fingers resting on his arm. He quickly averted his gaze again and murmured a soft, "Okay," as the tips of his ears turned an uncontrollable red.
Upstairs was a small reception room, renovated according to Song Lianhe’s design. It held two soft, comfortable long chairs that made it easy for anyone sitting on them to relax. She called them "sofas."
She sat down on one of the sofas, her expression grave. "Young Master Yan... er, no, Brother Yan Wen, there’s a favor I’d like to ask of you."
Seeing her so solemn, Yan Wen grew serious as well. "Please speak, Second Miss."
"I want to break off my engagement with Prince Ling, and I need your help."
Yan Wen’s expression stiffened. ’How am I supposed to help with that?’

After the morning court session ended, Su Huaqing went home to change and then strolled over to the Medical Clinic.
"Shuang Ye, what’s for lunch?"
Shuang Ye smiled. "Ghee-soaked pastry snails, Lion’s Head meatballs with crab roe, vinegar-sautéed Fang La fish, and your favorite, Mr. Su, flower-folded goose cake. How does that sound?"
Su Huaqing’s eyes lit up. "Mm! Excellent! Excellent! Ah, Shuang Ye, any man who marries you in the future will be truly blessed!"
"You’re too kind, Mr. Su."
Su Huaqing continued further inside.
"Ah Yu, have you finished the Go manual I gave you to read?"
"I have. Thank you, Mr. Su."
"Heh, how about a game later?"
"If there’s time during the lunch break, I would be honored to receive your instruction, Mr. Su."
"Excellent, excellent! It’s a deal!"
Su Huaqing, leisurely fanning himself, happened to see Xuan Mei. "Heh, Xuan—"
Xuan Mei stared straight ahead. "Go away."
"...Alrighty then!"
The stream of patients was endless today, all of them waiting to see the miracle doctor.
When Su Huaqing came in, he saw Cao Ying busy and sweating profusely. "Where’s the Second Miss?"
Cao Ying complained, "She’s upstairs with Yan Wen. I have no idea what they’ve been talking about for so long!"
Su Huaqing lowered his head and smiled, snapping his fan shut. "Fine. I’ll consider it repayment for Miss Shuang Ye’s flower-folded goose cake!"
After sitting down, he declared with a grand wave of his hand, "Send them in!"
When Song Lianhe and Yan Wen came downstairs, this was the scene that greeted them.
Su Huaqing was presiding over the main hall, Cao Ying was responsible for dispensing medicine, and Ah Yu was collecting the consultation fees. The three of them worked together in perfect, orderly coordination.
Song Lianhe clicked her tongue in amazement. "Brother Wanzhang, you’re really full of surprises!"
’Looks like he can be officially added to the staff.’
Yan Wen followed behind her. "Wanzhang is exceptionally well-read. He traveled extensively in his youth, so he’s very knowledgeable. His skills go far beyond just medicine."
"Mm-hm!"
Song Lianhe couldn’t agree more.
’All the more reason not to let him get away, then.’
Yan Wen was in low spirits. He kept glancing at her, and then over at Su Huaqing. Just then, Su Huaqing happened to look up, and Yan Wen slowly lowered his gaze.
As he recalled Song Lianhe’s shocking words from earlier, a vague sense of unease settled over him. Besides a hint of sympathy for his friend, he also felt a flicker of displeasure that he couldn’t quite name.
Shuang Ye’s cooking was getting more and more refined. Even Cao Ying, who came from a wealthy background, was full of nothing but praise.
After lunch, Song Lianhe went looking for Su Huaqing. She found him in the courtyard, sunning himself. With a beaming smile, she called out in a saccharine voice, "Brother Wanzhang~"
Su Huaqing jumped, his expression instantly freezing. He stared at her blankly for a long moment.
’Bro-Brother... Wanzhang?’
He shuddered violently, leaping to his feet and holding up a hand to stop her. "Second Miss, if there’s anything you need my help with, please just say so. There’s no need to be so terrifying."
"Hehe, then I’ll get right to the point!"
Song Lianhe took a step forward, her smiling gaze fixed on him. "I need to break off my engagement with Prince Ling, and for that, I need a good story. So, I plan to tell him that I’ve already fallen in love with someone else. And as it happens, that someone is... Brother Wanzhang."
