Chapter 91: Chapter 91: Am I That Repulsive to You?

Song Xingfeng frowned, and Song Lianhe sneered. "Then what are you still lingering here for? Why don’t you pack your things and get out? Running to my father to complain? Are you hoping he’ll punish me again to vent your anger, and ruin my reputation while you’re at it?"

"You... That’s absolute nonsense! Husband~"

"So let me be clear. The next time I’m speaking with my father, I’d advise Aunt Liu to keep her mouth shut!"

The arguing gave Song Xingfeng a headache. "That’s enough!" he snapped impatiently. "For the next few days, you will stay in your courtyard. You are not to go anywhere!" He then ordered the steward, "Post some men to watch her!"

"Yes, my lord."

Mrs. Liu shot Song Lianhe a glare before following Song Xingfeng out.

The door slammed shut.

Song Lianhe rolled her eyes and turned to Xuan Mei. "Any problems?"

Xuan Mei glanced up at the courtyard wall. "No problem."

Song Lianhe arrived at the Medical Clinic, where a line of people was already waiting for consultations, even at this early hour.

Su Huaqing had arrived quite early. Seeing her, he came over and lowered his voice. "Today is my day off, so I can help you with consultations. And if ’Second Miss Song’ has need of me, I am at your beck and call."

He looked so pleasant, a complete departure from the man in the book who had cut the fetus from Song Lianhe’s womb. The two seemed like completely different people.

However, this was indeed part of Song Lianhe’s plan.

’There’s still no word from Zhou Cangyan. If I wait any longer, I’ll be forced onto that bridal sedan. And I don’t want to just abandon everything in Ling’an City and run. So, I might as well stick to the original plan and make use of Su Huaqing!’

"In that case... I’ll be counting on you, Brother Wanzhang!"

Su Huaqing smiled and turned to get back to his work.

Song Lianhe went to the back courtyard and removed her veil.

Compared to the front, the back courtyard was quite small. Herbs were laid out everywhere to dry. In the middle of it all sat Cao Ying, struggling to operate a stone mill with her foot while repeatedly rubbing her lower back with her delicate hands.

Song Lianhe froze for a second, then quickly turned to Shuang Ye, who whispered, "Miss Cao has been preparing all the medicine these past few days."

"A change of heart?"

Shuang Ye suppressed a smile. "It’s not a change of heart. It’s just that Commander Cao is watching her too closely."

Song Lianhe’s eyes lit up with understanding. ’That Cao Jin is a good man!’

When Cao Ying looked up and saw her, her temper immediately flared. "Song Lianhe, are you even human? There are so many herbs to grind, and then they have to be rolled into pills... My hands are ruined, and my back is about to break!"

Shuang Ye whispered, "But the Shopkeeper helps you, doesn’t he?"

Yan Wen was the Shopkeeper in name only. He was fast with the accounts, and wanting to repay his debt of gratitude to Song Lianhe, he would help prepare medicine in his spare time.

Seeing her drenched in sweat from exhaustion, Song Lianhe felt genuinely bad. "Oh, I’m so sorry, really. I never imagined our clinic would be this short-staffed only a few days after opening. How about this... um... Ah Yu, from now on, you’ll stay and help at the Medical Clinic too."

Ah Yu didn’t hesitate. "Yes."

Cao Ying let Song Lianhe help her into a chair, then immediately started complaining again. "If my brother didn’t have people watching my every move and didn’t interrogate me every single night, who would want to stay in this godforsaken place!"

"Yes, yes, all hail the righteous Commander Cao!"

Song Lianhe poured her a cup of tea. Cao Ying shot her a look, snatched the cup, and downed it in one go. Then she asked, "Song Lianhe, are you really going to marry Prince Ling along with that preening peacock?"

When she asked this, much of her earlier hostility had vanished, replaced by a probing curiosity.

"Not in a million years," Song Lianhe replied without hesitation. "Even if every other man on earth disappeared, I would never marry Prince Ling!"

"Oh? Am I truly that displeasing to you?"

The small gate to the back courtyard was suddenly pushed open.

And there stood Zhou Junlin, magnificent and imposing in the doorway, looking like a god descending to the mortal realm, complete with his protagonist halo.

’There it is!’

’The halo, unseen for so long, had made its grand return!’

Song Lianhe felt a strange sense of gratification.

’Heh, I just love taking the wind out of his sails!’

’No, wait... How did he know I was at the Medical Clinic?!’

Her expression shifted. Wiping the smile from her lips, she adopted a serious tone. "What brings Prince Ling here? Oh, I know! You must be here to see the miracle-working doctor!"

Zhou Junlin ground his teeth. He walked in slowly, his hands clasped behind his back. "You’re not wrong. I am indeed here to invite the miracle-working doctor to the palace. Oh, no, that’s not quite right... I should say, my Princess Consort."
