Chapter 62: Trying Her Luck

Serendipity Restaurant. freёweɓnovel.com

Standing before Serendipity Restaurant, Aurora felt her once calm heart suddenly grow restless and beat faster.

She clenched her hands tightly.

"Are you sure you want to eat here?" Josh asked, looking inside. "I don’t think the food is delicious. Let’s go to a nicer restaurant nearby. They also serve grilled meat; I’m sure you’ll like it."

Aurora shook her head. She knew precisely which restaurant Josh was referring to—where Alex often dined and where she enjoyed meals silently while sitting opposite Alex.

However, she didn’t want to go there; she wanted to come here because this place was where she could meet her closest friends.

"It’s fine. I like this restaurant..." Aurora declined Josh’s offer while pushing the door, with Josh closely following behind her.

The restaurant hall was nearly full of customers, even though it wasn’t night yet. Only a few tables remained unoccupied.

Aurora’s gaze quickly fell on an empty table in the corner. Her heart clenched at the memories of sitting at that table, which she often shared with her best friends when visiting this restaurant.

Just like that, her feet led her to the table, and she found herself standing in the best spot in the restaurant—a corner by the expansive glass wall that overlooked the street yet distanced from the other tables.

She knew the table was reserved; only Renata and her closest friends could use it. Still, she decided to take a chance today, hoping no one would ask her to move.

"Let’s sit here, Josh..." she said softly while trying to locate Renata, but she couldn’t see her anywhere.

’Hasn’t she arrived yet?’ Aurora wondered as she glanced at the back door leading to the kitchen.

"Do you come here often?" Josh asked, curiosity in his voice as he looked at Aurora.

He noticed that she seemed relaxed in this place, but her eyes were scanning the area near the counter in the distance, searching for someone.

When he followed her gaze, he only saw a few waitresses busy serving another customer.

Aurora eventually turned her attention back to Josh sitting opposite her.

"Hmm, a few times," she replied, feeling slightly disappointed that she still hadn’t spotted Renata.

"I didn’t know this place could be so lively. It’s not even night yet," Josh said as he admired the bustling restaurant hall.

They had been sitting for a few minutes, but no waitress had noticed them; everyone seemed busy attending to other customers.

"I told you they serve the best steak, and the prices aren’t expensive for a restaurant in this area. The price is affordable for young people who are just starting their careers," Aurora explained.

She felt proud that her best friend, Renata, owned this popular spot. Young people in this city know Renata’s restaurant. Even though Renata was already wealthy, she chose to open this restaurant despite only making a small profit.

Aurora understood the only reason Renata dwelled in this venture was to avoid full-time responsibility for managing her family’s business.

"Wow, I can’t wait to taste their steak," Josh said excitedly, but his enthusiasm waned when a waitress hurried over and asked them to move.

Aurora silently sighs. She already foresees this will happen.

"I apologize, sir, mam, but you cannot sit at this table," the waitress said with regret as she placed the’ Reservation" sign on it.

Josh was stunned when he heard the waitress’s words. His anger began to surface when he saw her place the "Reservation" sign on their table after they had already sat down.

"Excuse me, but why should we move?" Josh asked calmly, though the look in his eyes was enough to intimidate the waitress.

"I’m sorry, sir, but this table is already reserved," the waitress replied quickly. "You can sit at the table over there; it has a similar view to this one," she added, pointing to a table near the window, not far from where they were seated.

However, Josh refused to budge. They arrived and took their seats before the reservation sign was placed on the table.

"We won’t move. Obviously, we sat here before you placed the reservation sign on the table," he declared, a sneer appearing at the corner of his lips as he noticed the waitress’s face turn pale.

"I’m sorry, sir. I forgot to put up the sign. But this table is really not for customers on Friday nights because—" The waitress’s sentence trailed off as Aurora stood up and smiled at her.

"It’s fine. We will move..." Aurora said, glancing at Josh, who was shocked to see her. "Let’s move over there," she continued, walking away without waiting for Josh to protest.

"Thank you so much, young miss..." The waitress felt relieved; she knew she could have faced trouble for allowing customers to sit at her boss’s table. Quickly, she followed them and presented the menu.

However, Aurora did not accept the menu. Instead, she ordered her usual dish when she visited and asked the waitress to give the menu to Josh.

"No need. Just order the same as her," Josh replied, still annoyed because the waitress asked them to move.

He began to consider reporting this treatment to his boss and suggested that he should buy this place. How dare they threaten them like this?

After watching the waitress walk away, he glanced back at Aurora, who appeared calm.

Earlier, he had thought Aurora would refuse the situation and be angry because someone had taken their table, but he was wrong. She was simply too kind to other people.

"Aurora, why did you move? It’s their fault for late putting up the sign..." he asked, confused.

Aurora didn’t respond immediately. She picked up the glass of water and drank it gracefully.

"It’s fine, Josh. I don’t mind... It’s just changing tables, not changing restaurants," she said casually as she set her empty glass on the table.

Seeing Josh still annoyed, she continued with a random excuse.

"Perhaps the person who booked the table is a regular at this restaurant. Or maybe someone once proposed to their girlfriend at that table and returned here to celebrate their anniversary..."

Josh shook his head upon hearing her answer.

"Well, I just want to say you are too kind, Aurora..." Josh can’t help but smile. However, his smile vanished when a woman’s voice echoed from behind.

"Aurora, why are you seated here?"

’What the hell? We also can’t sit here?’ Josh was left speechless.
