Chapter 67: Suicide Mission

After Josh ended the call, Alvin glanced toward Alex’s office. He hesitated to enter and share what he had just heard from Josh about Aurora.

"Should I interrupt his meeting?" Alvin silently questioned himself as he approached Alex’s office. He halted for a moment before knocking on the door.

Just before Alvin could knock, the door swung open, and Patrick Wallace appeared from behind it with a surprised expression.

Noticing Patrick’s distressed look, Alvin quickly understood that Alex was in a foul mood.

The idea of entering Alex’s office to inform him about his wife felt like a suicide mission. He hesitated again.

’Damn! What should I do? I need to speak to him now... but what if he scolds me again?’ Alvin felt stressed.

"Alvin, why are you standing here? Do you want to meet Alex?" Patrick asked, closing the door behind him.

"Yes. Is he in a good mood?" Alvin asked, anxiously running his fingers through his hair.

"Well, if you want my two cents, don’t you dare step into that room unless he gives you the apparent green light," Patrick said with a grin, noticing the nervous look in his eyes.

Alvin took a deep breath.

He saw this coming. His boss had been acting strangely lately; there was just something off—Alex never wanted to return home, using work as an excuse. He isolated himself in his office, only emerging when he needed to return to his apartment to sleep or freshen up.

Whenever he brought up the idea of Alex heading back to Green Hill or chatting about Aurora, he’d get a scolding immediately.

But now he couldn’t avoid it any longer. He had to let his boss know since it involved someone who might catch his interest.

"Thank you for your warning, sir. Still, I’ll take my chances," Alvin said with a faint smile. "Please wish me luck... I must inform him about his wife."

Patrick’s eyebrow raised slightly upon hearing Alvin’s words. "His wife?"

"Yes, sir. You know Boss Alex has a new wife, right?" Alvin narrowed his eyes, watching Patrick’s surprised expression.

"Of course, I know! How could I not? I’m the one who arranged the meeting between her dad and Alex." Patrick shook his head, a warm smile spreading across his face.

Alvin nodded, aware of Patrick’s involvement, but feared he might forget. "His wife is familiar with Sister Rory’s circle..."

Patrick’s frown deepened, surprised to hear that. ’How could that young girl possibly know Rory’s friend?’ he thought, confused.

"How is that even possible?!" Patrick gasped, his voice filled with disbelief.

"That’s why I’m also confused," Alvin sighed softly. "Didn’t you do a background check before Boss Alex agreed to marry her?"

Patrick paused before saying, "Yeah, I did, but I didn’t really get into it. I was mainly looking into her dad’s company, as Alex told me the marriage is solely for business purposes."

Alvin smiled sourly. He had already imagined that. That’s why no one knew how Aurora could be acquainted with Renata Prescott.

As Alvin was about to enter Alex’s office, he stopped Patrick again. "Sir, are you aware of your division’s interns this year?"

"Of course, I know; I approved their internship at my place. Why do you ask? It has nothing to do with Alex’s wife, has it? Has it?" Patrick raised his eyebrow slightly, confused and worried.

"I knew it! You are really clueless..." Alvin laughed. "Lady Boss is one of the lucky students who will intern at your office."

"What!?" This time, Patrick was genuinely shocked. "Wait, wait. You said that woman is Alex’s wife?" Patrick asked. He remembered he had chosen a couple this year.

Before Alvin could say anything, Patrick was already walking briskly toward the elevator. He needed to get back to his office.

Now, Patrick understood why Alex had always appeared annoyed with him lately when he asked about the internship program.

While walking to the elevator, Patrick called his secretary to place the interns’ profiles on his table. He needed to double-check them again.

’Damn it! How did I miss her name? I picked her because she alone could decode my complex program...’

Patrick shook his head as he entered the elevator, eager to see her profile.

...

As Patrick entered the elevator, Alvin glanced at the door in front of him. He had to go to Alex’s office; he had no choice now.

After taking a few deep breaths and mentally preparing the proper words to tell Alex about Aurora, he slowly knocked on the door.

"Come in!"

Alvin hurried in after hearing Alex’s soft voice from inside. He found him standing by the window with his back turned toward him.

Seeing Alex standing with his arms crossed over his chest made him worry about including Aurora in his words.

’Calm down, Alvin! Calm down...’ He talked to himself and tried to suppress his anxiety.

"What’s the matter, Alvin? Why are you coming here and saying nothing? You know I hate it when people waste my time, right?" Alex’s voice pulled Alvin from his trance.

Alvin was shocked to hear Alex’s voice. When he noticed Alex’s unfriendly expression, he immediately understood why Patrick had advised him against entering Alex’s office—Alex was indeed in a terrible mood.

But now it was too late. He needed to inform Alex about Aurora. He didn’t have a choice.

Walking closer to Alex and standing a short distance away, he finally began to speak. "Sir, Josh just called me about your wife..."

Alvin paused when he saw Alex no longer looking at him but instead returning his gaze to the street below, ignoring him.

’Is Boss Alex angry or not? Why hasn’t he said anything and not scolded me like usual?’ Alvin silently took a deep breath, feeling confused.

After waiting a few more minutes, Alvin could no longer hold it in. He babbled, "Sir, Josh informed me that your wife is currently meeting Miss Rory’s best friend, Miss Renata Prescott, at her restaurant..." all in a single breath.

Instantly, Alex turned to see Alvin. "What? Can you say that again?" Alex asked, taken aback.

Alvin was relieved; his assumption was on point. His boss was likely surprised and intrigued.

He shared all the information he received from Josh, including specifics about Aurora’s final exam.
