Rebirth: CEO's Sweetheart Reaches the Life Pinnacle!-Chapter 164 - 161: A Coincidental Encounter at the Bar
Chapter 164: Chapter 161: A Coincidental Encounter at the Bar
"Auntie! That’s not going to work! We may not know much, but we can certainly roll out dough and wrap dumplings!" Li Si said with a laugh, tugging at Nanny Su’s sleeve. She really was a great mother; if only her own mother were more like this—full of the warmth of everyday life.
Mrs. Su finally gave in, "Alright then! With so many people, making dumplings together will be lively!"
They ended up making dumplings stuffed with chives, shrimp, and minced pork. Everyone joined in, and Li Si ended up with several streaks of flour smeared across her face by Leng Mochen, provoking bursts of laughter from the group.
Mrs. Su also whipped up a table full of dishes, her cooking surprisingly even better than that of a hotel chef. Especially the braised ribs and shredded pork with garlic sauce—Li Si could barely resist grabbing some rice to go with it.
After an enjoyable meal filled with laughter, Leng Mochen proposed that the three of them go out for some fun, leaving Su Meng and her mother to spend some quality time together at home.
In the bar’s private room, Long Wu was visibly displeased, grumbling, "I mean, Leng Er, today’s the Little New Year. What are we doing hanging out? Wouldn’t it be better to spend more time with Meng Meng instead?"
He genuinely disliked going out at this time. Out of 365 days a year, they could hit the bar any day—why pick today?
Li Si couldn’t help but facepalm. Usually, this guy had decent intelligence, but when it came to Meng Meng, his IQ took a nosedive. "Brother Wu, Meng Meng’s mom just recovered from her illness. Shouldn’t we give them some space for heartfelt chat?"
Leng Mochen sipped from his whiskey with ice and commented, "Si, Wu must have his own considerations!"
Long Wu leaned in closer and agreed, "Er, you really know me! Honestly, I’m just afraid Meng Meng will say something to her mom that’ll make it even harder for me to win her back down the road!"
Li Si rolled her eyes at him, "Even if that’s the case, if Meng Meng really wants to speak her mind, could you stop her? You hinder her today, but what about tomorrow? Sooner or later, she’s going to say it!"
In her opinion, Su Meng probably wouldn’t say anything. Otherwise, when her mom had criticized her before, she wouldn’t have been so tight-lipped, not letting even a hint of bitterness slip.
Long Wu scratched his stylish hair in frustration, transforming it into a disheveled mess resembling a bird’s nest. "This is driving me crazy!"
Li Si and Leng Mochen exchanged a glance but didn’t bother with him. The two sat together, nestled against one another, whispering sweet nothings.
Long Wu eventually couldn’t stand them anymore. He stood up, furrowing his brows irritably, "I mean, Leng Er, could you two at least consider my feelings as a single guy? Stop flaunting your affection in front of me! Go get some fresh air!"
After Long Wu stomped out and shut the door, Li Si pointed at the door and teased, "Mochen, do you think he’s jealous?"
"He’ll be fine in a little while! Si, are we really spending this New Year in Beijing?" Leng Mochen’s eyes flashed with subtle understanding as he shifted the conversation to whether or not she would return to North City. Though he didn’t want her to leave, he respected her decision.
Li Si finished her fruit wine and sighed, "Not staying here means going back to face those snobs? I’ve had enough of them! Don’t tell me you wouldn’t like me staying here for New Year?" She stared at him, waiting for his reply.
"Of course not. It’s best if you’re by my side! How about not going back to your place later—come to mine instead?" Leng Mochen suggested deeply. Recently, his opportunities for closeness had disappeared; she always found excuses to refuse him. How was that acceptable?
"Not happening! I’m going home! Haha, someone’s thinking too much, huh?" Li Si responded mischievously, grinning at him.
Lately, she had been busy between managing the store and helping Su Meng. The two hadn’t had much alone time, which he was undoubtedly unhappy about. This reserved man! His mind constantly full of thoughts about kissing and whatnot.
He leaned closer, his eyes sparkling. "We’re getting engaged soon, so what if I am overthinking? Why are you avoiding me? Hmm?"
She reflexively retreated until her back hit the sofa armrest. "I’m not! What do you think you’re doing?" ƒгeewёbnovel.com
"What do you think I’m doing?" He locked his gaze on her pink lips, as if he could still smell the faint mix of alcohol and sweetness lingering.
She tried to push him away as he inched closer, but he remained completely immovable. "We’re outside. Someone might walk in soon!" She thought he must be crazy. If someone pushed the door open and saw this ambiguous scene, she’d die of embarrassment.
He chuckled wickedly. "Oh? So does that mean it’d be okay if we were at home?" He hadn’t intended to do anything anyway. After all, he didn’t have a penchant for public spectacles—he just wanted to tease her.
She wanted to bite her tongue off. The more she talked, the more mistakes she made! In the end, she chose to stay silent and just sat there stiffly.
Seeing her stubbornly sit there looking aggrieved, he took her hand. "Just teasing you! Silly girl!"
Before he’d said that, she hadn’t felt much. But now, his words somehow made her heart ache a little. "It’s all your fault!"
He kissed her forehead gently. "Don’t be upset! Why has Long Wu been gone so long?"
Li Si brushed her long hair and asked inquisitively, "You don’t think he’s off flirting with some girl, do you?"
She recalled hearing that his past had been rather colorful. Who knew if he truly had walked through a thousand flowers without a single leaf sticking to him?
At that moment, Long Wu pushed the door open and sauntered in with a face full of gossipy excitement. "So, I’m guessing I came back at the wrong time, huh? Should I head out again so you two can continue?"
"Get lost!" Leng Mochen furrowed his brow and rebuked him.
Li Si studied him with curiosity. "Where’ve you been? Don’t tell me you really found some beauty to keep you company in all this time?"
"Ugh, I’m a devoted, long-lasting, high-minded man! Don’t compare me to those people, alright? Sisi, guess who I ran into outside just now?" Long Wu huffed, pretending to be virtuous before revealing his true nature.
"Was it your ex-girlfriend?" Li Si deliberately teased him. Given how excited he was to mention this, it had to be someone familiar to them, or else it wouldn’t have been worth talking about.
"You little one, you’ve picked up sharp words from Leng Er, haven’t you? Let me tell you—it was Ye Duowei, drinking outside with her fiancé!" Long Wu took a sip of liquor to moisten his throat.
Li Si toyed with her glass indifferently. "What’s so surprising about that? Anyone can come to this bar!" She wasn’t fond of either Ye Duowei or her fiancé, and thus felt no desire to cross paths.
"She got into an argument with a waitress outside over something absurd. People are gathered around watching the drama! There’s yelling and hitting involved!" Long Wu had watched for a while but found the scene boring, so he returned to the private room. Such behavior—bullying the weak—was something he found unimpressive.
Li Si and Leng Mochen thought he was too idle and didn’t pay him any mind, leaving him to drink alone in boredom.
After sticking around for a while and finding it utterly uninteresting, the three decided to call it a night and head home separately.
As they passed through the lobby on the first floor, the crowd was still gathered. Li Si curiously peered through the throng and caught sight of Ye Duowei drunkenly causing a scene like a wild woman, with Yin Xian holding her by the waist.
Ye Duowei’s face was contorted with rage as she shouted incessantly. The lighting flickered as music blared, and Li Si shook her head, losing interest. Leng Mochen held her close as they headed toward the exit.
The drama ended with the waitress being fired. If Li Si had taken a closer look, she might have recognized the person beaten to the ground, her face swollen and blood at the corner of her mouth—it was none other than Zhou Rou.
As fate would have it, Ye Duowei was fed up with her family’s tense atmosphere. Because of the Ye’s Company troubles, her parents argued constantly, so she invited Yin Xian out to drink with her.
What should have been a happy outing led Yin Xian, despite his reluctance, to accompany her anyway. The two had already been intimate, so now their interactions were more natural. They planned to finish up at the bar and find a hotel to stay the night. (To be continued. If you like this work, please visit Qidian (qidian.com) to vote for recommendations and monthly tickets.
