Chapter 51 -51 Minor Interlude (Part Two)

Xia Yuan looked at the smug expression on Wang Lizhen’s face and said with an apologetic smile, “Ah, you misunderstood. It’s not that Lu Aiguo is unwilling to buy them for me; he just dislikes leather shoes because they can make your feet smell when you walk.”

Then Xia Yuan stretched out her foot and pointed at her shoes for Wang Lizhen to see, “Look at these, he asked someone to buy them for me in Magic Capital. They are genuine leather. Lu Aiguo says that leather shoes have to be real leather to be comfortable. I was afraid they wouldn’t fit without trying them on, but they fit perfectly and are especially comfortable to wear.”

Wang Lizhen’s face suddenly changed.

Mom really doesn’t show her hand unless she means business, and when she does, it’s powerful.

Lu Yun watched the drama unfold with great interest, her face unable to hide her amusement.

“Su Yun, your mom has no shame, seducing men and telling lies. You’re just as cheap. If you know what’s good for you, you’ll get lost now. Otherwise, every time I see you, I’ll get my brothers to beat you up. We’ll see if they don’t kill you.”

Chen Qiuyu jumped up menacingly and cursed at Lu Yun, her words filled with threats.

Lu Yun, who was internally praising her father’s foresight and wisdom, suddenly felt a black line cross her forehead, and anger surged through her.

Everyone has a breaking point. She didn’t care that Chen Qiuyu insulted and threatened her—she could dismiss it as a rabid dog’s rant. But how dare she insult her mother? Who gave her the courage?

Though a gentleman may seek revenge for a decade, isn’t it even more satisfying to repay immediately?

She looked at her own slender arms and legs and then at the size of Wang Lizhen and her daughter together, realizing they were about one and a half times the size of her and her mother. It was not a fight they could win by force at the moment.

Lu Yun tilted her head, thought for a moment, took half a laxative pill from her space, ground it into powder, and moved in front of the mother and daughter. With the wind in her favor, she flung the powder, most of which was inhaled by Wang Lizhen and Chen Qiuyu through their mouths and noses. They sneezed one after another, rubbing their noses and looking around, feeling as if they inhaled dust, but didn’t pay it much attention.

Lu Yun snickered inwardly. The products from her space were always top-notch, and although it was just half a pill, it would be enough for the mother and daughter to suffer for the next five or six hours.

“Mom, what should we do if a mad dog bites us? We’re humans, not dogs, so if we bite back, wouldn’t that be disgusting?” Lu Yun looked at Xia Yuan with a face of naive innocence, appearing troubled, “And if we bite that mad dog, we might catch rabies, right?”

With righteous indignation fading and not wanting to stoop to arguing with a child, Xia Yuan’s face revealed a look of admiration, “Right, we shouldn’t bother with a mad dog.”

“Mom, Shitou says that cursing people is uncultured and uncivilized, and cursing others is essentially cursing oneself. Is that true?” As Lu Yun spoke, she deliberately gave Chen Qiuyu a provocative look.

“Shitou is right; Xiaoyun can’t learn from that uncivilized and ill-mannered bad child in the future. If you become a bad influence, it’ll break your mom’s heart. People will also laugh at us for having no home training, no parents to discipline us,” Xia Yuan said with a smile, feeling the frustration ebb away.

“Xia Yuan, who are you calling a mad dog, who lacks home training? Make it clear,” Wang Lizhen jumped up, confronting Xia Yuan fiercely, a malicious gleam in her eyes.

“Whoever responds is whom I’m scolding. Heh, so Wang Lizhen, you actually understand human speech? If you weren’t catching on, I was considering making it even clearer, heh heh.”

Xia Yuan retorted sarcastically to Wang Lizhen.

Ever since she arrived in this village, for some reason, Wang Lizhen was always hostile towards her, often trying to provoke her for attention. Xia Yuan had tolerated it for too long.

Today, her daughter dared to speak ill of her in Xiaoyun’s presence and even threaten Xiaoyun. Did she really think she was dough that could be kneaded at will?

“You, you, you…”

Wang Lizhen, as if driven mad, lunged forward trying to tear at Xia Yuan, “I’ll kill you, you whore.”

If it had been anyone else responding to her like that, she might not have been so crazily enraged to lose her wits, but having Xia Yuan, who always acted beneath her, replace that person was something she truly couldn’t stand.

Seeing Wang Lizhen pounce, Xia Yuan quickly grabbed Lu Yun and dodged to the side. Wang Lizhen lunged at air, and in the process, Lu Yun stealthily moved a rock beneath her feet, causing her to immediately stumble to the ground.

At that very moment, the mule cart arrived.

“Everyone get on quickly, don’t waste time,” the driver, Chen Lao Hou, bellowed, “Lu Aiguo’s family, you and the child get on first, the rest will follow in the order they arrived.”

“Ouch, it’s killing me! Who the hell tripped me just now?” Wang Lizhen, in a disheveled state, climbed up, only to see the mule cart promptly fill up. She lost even the chance she had anticipated to scramble on and secure a seat for herself first.

“Why do Xia Yuan and the two of them get to go first? They were the last to arrive.” Wang Lizhen, hands akimbo, pointed at Xia Yuan and Lu Yun, “I don’t believe they’re really willing to pay for three people’s fare. Didn’t you, Chen Lao Hou, take a fancy to them and deliberately not ask them for the fare?”

“Shut your fucking trap.”

Chen Lao Hou spat on the ground and cursed vehemently.

“Lu Aiguo is concerned for his wife and child. He came yesterday to reserve their seats. If you’re jealous, why didn’t you have Chen Dazhuang reserve your seats in advance? Although, I reckon Chen Dazhuang would rather spend that money on some other woman than on you, his yellow-faced wife.”

Having said that, Chen Lao Hou whipped the reins and the mule kicked up dust as it set off, leaving Wang Lizhen and her daughter eating dirt at the roadside.

On the mule cart, a young man laughed and asked Chen Lao Hou, “Uncle Chen, what were you implying with those words to Chen Dazhuang’s women? Did Chen Dazhuang really reserve a seat for another woman?”

“Is there any doubt?” Chen Lao Hou chuckled, “When have you ever seen me talking nonsense? If it weren’t for that woman coming at me like a rabid dog, I wouldn’t have provoked her.”

“So who exactly is Chen Dazhuang’s mistress? Is it someone from the Lin Family…” The man leaned in excitedly, probing further. The others also pricked up their ears, showing great enthusiasm.

The village was only so big, and rumors about Chen Dazhuang’s ambiguous affairs with other men’s wives were not a secret to anyone, almost everybody knew. After all, there’s not much entertainment in the countryside, so these bits of gossip were exceptionally popular and spread quickly.

“Stop, stop, stop, I really shouldn’t say more. It wouldn’t be good if the couple starts fighting and drags me into it. You all make your guesses, but I haven’t said a thing,” Chen Lao Hou, driving the cart and wearing a knowing smile, refused to say another word despite further questioning.

He refused to divulge more, yet the remaining four people on the cart just couldn’t keep their mouths shut and eagerly continued the discussion.

Xia Yuan didn’t like to talk about people behind their backs, but that didn’t prevent her from enjoying listening; she found the gossip quite engaging. Lu Yun was young and naturally didn’t speak much. Recalling the fate of Wang Lizhen’s family, she couldn’t help but show contempt.

Wang Lizhen’s family was quite bizarre indeed. Instead of living a decent life, the women liked to stir up trouble everywhere, while the husband was notorious for flirting. They had two sons and a daughter but did not raise them properly.

The children were wild, fighting with others and causing trouble all day, and their parents didn’t stop them but rather praised them for not being at a loss. If the children from other families were beaten and came knocking on their door, these parents would blindly defend their offspring, leading all three of them to become more difficult than the next, growing up into adults who were perpetually aggressive and selfish.
