Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space-Chapter 879: Knitting Sweaters
Jiang Xinyu was a bit worried about Li Yungui, but she thought maybe the Li brothers were having dinner together.
She guessed right; the Li Family Brothers were indeed dining together.
"Later, you go to the finance office directly to get the money for those hundred corn shuckers. This time we’ll collect two hundred before sending them; they urgently need more."
"Big brother, you go in a week; there’ll be two hundred by then.
What about the coal? The demand is huge. Besides, hasn’t the village built a clinic? It needs coal too."
"I’ll figure it out, just wait. Also, don’t be too high-profile; it’s tense now, don’t cross the line."
"I know, no one would visit the village now, but when spring comes, they’ll have to work the same."
"Good, as long as you understand. When will the pesticide factory start production?"
"I estimate after the New Year, but it will definitely be in time for spring planting. The pesticide is truly a great product; almost no herbicides were used on wastelands this year, otherwise output wouldn’t have been so large."
"Hmm, how are Xue’er and the other two?"
"The kids are quite busy, their schedules are packed. Xue’er is now studying with Jiang Xinyu’s nephew and niece. They’re doing high school courses now."
"Let her come back for a few days on New Year holidays. I’m arranging for Red Army and the other two to work in our village. Hongling is still young; let him be for now."
"What about the eldest niece-in-law?"
"Can I bother the in-laws for that? I’ve also selected a few people; if it doesn’t work out, we’ll hire someone to watch."
"Wouldn’t the eldest niece-in-law be unhappy about that?"
"I’ve talked to them; they have no objections. I’m more inclined to hire someone."
"Big brother, isn’t this bad for you? How about finding someone straightforward from the village? Then it could be seen as helping out."
"I’ll think about it; there’s still a few months. But with Xue’er and the Red Army, I must hurry; nobody is overseeing them, so it’s easier to handle."
"Big brother, when the kids are a bit older, send them back to their hometown to be raised."
Li Yunqiao of course hoped so, but they’re grandchildren; it wasn’t his decision to make.
"That depends on Hong Lin and his wife; they probably wouldn’t bear to. Never mind, we’ll see when the time comes.
Later, when you get home, bring out all the receipts."
"No need, we don’t lack anything now. I suppose Jiang Xinyu is getting impatient."
Li Yunqiao thought about it and decided to buy things himself in a few days. There are many cloth tickets at home; he alone has to supply more than the couple, so he’ll take his own ones back to his brothers.
After lunch, Li Yunqiao wrote a note for Li Yungui, who went to the finance office to withdraw four thousand yuan.
Li Yungui returned to Li Yunqiao’s office, directly unclipped his waistband, pulled out a fabric strap, wrapped the money around it, and tied it around his waist.
"Carrying so much money makes me uneasy even while walking."
Li Yunqiao just laughed; it was wise of his brother to be cautious.
After leaving, Li Yungui went home directly. Along the way, he was nervous, feeling like everyone on the road wanted to rob his money.
The front door was locked; this meant Jiang Xinyu was at home.
Jiang Xinyu heard the knock on the door and quickly went to open it. Seeing Li Yungui at the door, she felt relieved.
"Teacher Jiang, were you worried?"
"Mm, if you weren’t back by two o’clock, I was going to look for you."
They talked as they got into the car. Usually, Li Yungui would open and lock the door, but today he didn’t because he was carrying money and was afraid.
Seeing his behavior, Jiang Xinyu knew it was because Village Chief Li had money on him, thinking it was obvious.
Once the car exited the city, Jiang Xinyu noticed Li Yungui began to relax.
"Teacher Jiang, we received the four thousand yuan for the last one hundred corn shuckers. Once we have two hundred, they will pick them up."
"Mm, the next eight thousand can go into purchasing raw materials. Iron can be stored without spoiling."
"Right, that saves me from having to get the money."
When they reached the village, Jiang Xinyu dropped Li Yungui directly at the brigade office and then drove home.
The two little ones were awake at this time; Shi Xian reached out when he saw his mom.
"Such a little one already has a mind of his own."
She had just finished feeding Shi Xian when she heard something outside—it was someone bringing money.
Jiang Xinyu honestly did not want to manage the money, but it showed their trust in her.
She called Du Fengying to feed the little girl and then went outside.
Seeing the money on the table, Jiang Xinyu smiled, "Accountant Li, did you record it?"
"Mm, I have it all noted down here."
The brothers didn’t stay long. As soon as Jiang Xinyu confirmed the amounts, they left immediately. Since the coal and iron needed storage, lending it out was unthinkable, so they decided to construct a simple warehouse.
Today someone else was substitute teaching, so Jiang Xinyu didn’t go to the school either. She sat on the kang with the little ones.
She found the fox fur she promised to Zhao Xiaoli and started knitting a sweater for Wei Kaiyun.
"Sister Du, here are two pounds of yarn for you to knit a sweater."
"Why did you buy this for me?"
"It’s warm under cotton clothes. If you don’t know how, I can teach you. You’ve been taking care of the family and the little ones so attentively, this is our small token of appreciation."
"Xiao Jiang, I won’t be polite, since I always treat you guys as my own family. I know how to knit; I learned in the village before."
The two women sat on the kang, first rolling yarn into balls to prevent it from tangling while knitting. The start of the sweater was quite simple, both being quick with their hands, so by the time they needed to cook, they had already knitted the hem.
They made dumplings with pork and cabbage in the evening. With more women in the house now, making dumplings wasn’t difficult at all.
After Jing Chu returned, she saw the yarn Jiang Xinyu bought for them siblings, and tears welled up in her eyes.
"What’s wrong? Worried you won’t know how to knit?" Jiang Xinyu teased her on purpose.
"Aunt Jiang, thank you. I know how to knit a sweater."
"Alright, don’t rush, take your time."
After eating, each person had a bowl of dumpling soup, feeling quite satisfied.
They cleared the table; the kitchen work was for the men. The four of them climbed onto the kang, lit candles, and knit sweaters.
Jing Chu started knitting for her brother. "Aunt Jiang, a pound and a half of yarn is enough for my brother’s sweater."
"Well, the remaining half pound, buy more of this color in the city next time, or do you have other plans?I have other colors of yarn here; if you need it, pick what you like."
"Aunt Jiang, do you think using several colors to knit a vest for my brother would be good?"
"It’s not bad; I have several colors of yarn here. Choose what you’d like; as long as it’s warm, it’s okay."
