Swallowing his surprise, Raven approached the tree and landed a solid punch on its trunk, hardened for centuries and covered with forest green moss and vines.
For a brief moment, nothing happened.
Then a booming sound erupted, startling the entire forest. The tree shook vigorously, causing a bunch of leaves to fall. Birds took to the sky, shrieking away from an unknown but overpowering sense of danger.
"Is that all?" was Raven's dumbfounded question.
But even before he could finish his question properly, several other booming echoes resounded in the Demantoid Wilderness.
The huge willow tree was uprooted and sent crashing back to the tree behind it, in turn uprooting the latter.
This cycle continued for quite a long time, leaving a wide path strewn with uprooted trees and dirt as far as one's eyes could see.
Not for Raven, though.
With his maxed out perception stats, he could clearly sense the presence of a ginormous tree in the horizon which had absorbed about 90% of the shockwave caused by his casual punch, causing minimal damage to the forest.
But since the tree was extremely far ahead, and was using some sort of skill to mask its presence, Raven, however squinting, couldn't really make it out.
His Ultimate Appraisal Skill was also not responding to the situation, signifying that finding out the real identity of the tree was not an urgent task.
Well Raven could see why the skill reacted that way, after all, he did plan to spend a decade in the Demantoid Wilderness, albeit officially.
Suddenly, a barrage of system notifications hit him like a bulldozer.
[Ding! Skill: Time halt activates]
[Ding! Uprooted 200 ordinary trees: earned 200 malevolent points]
[Ding! Uprooted 100 trees possessing low-grade mana core: earned 500 malevolent points]
[Ding! Killed 100 demonic beasts]
[Skill: Necromancy responds to the situation]
[Host can reincarnate the dead demonic beasts as subordinates. Proceed?]
"Yeah, proceed" murmured a shell-shocked Raven.
[Initiating revival of subordinates]
[Revival successful. Host has obtained 100 demonic beast subordinates. Gained malevolent points: 500]
[Subordinates have been placed in the system training zone]
[Successfully annihilated 6 elves: gained 300 malevolent points. Mother Tree takes notice of host.]
[Skill: Necromancy wishes to revive six elves as subordinates. Proceed?]
"Hell yeah, go ahead!" this time Raven, slowly gauging the level of how OP he had become overnight, replied promptly, adrenaline pumping through his veins.
[Revival Successful. 6 Undead Elves have been deployed to spar with 100 undead demonic beasts.]
[System Prompt: Mother Tree would become furious and engage host in combat if host's malevolent points reach 100,000.
Current Malevolent points: 1000]
[Skill: Time halt wears off]
As the last system prompt fades away, Raven is left to subdue the cries and hues of his aghast subordinates who had awaken when the violent booming sound had pierced through the forest.
Eric and his pals were astounded. If achieving inhumane strength overnight was this easy, then what had they been doing all this time?
Self-doubt was evident in their features.
Raven this time personally initiated the Time Halt skill to think of a further course of action.
He didn't really want to subject himself to the agony of coming up with half -baked excuses even an ass would have trouble believing.
Should he just kill all of them?
But Raven did not want to do that, as when he would return to the capital, he would need some trusted subordinates to do all the dirty work for him.
Quickly coming up with a solution, Raven tried another approach.
The system's familiar dings began echoing in his mind.
[Initiating Skill: Absolute Hypnosis]
[Initiating Skill: Devil's Whisper]
[Deactivate Time Halt]
After taking all such necessary steps, Raven began to speak the most bold-faced lie he had ever the balls to utter in his life.
"I was always this strong. You just did not know"
Your Power Stones, guys!
