Chapter 1408: What We Will Do Now

-----

There was twelve wooden coffins where the bodies of the students and instructors were placed, before going to the cemetery, they were given a small funeral ceremony here where each of the students that knew these people, their teachers, parents and family members, gave a few speeches.

As I heard these people lamenting the death of their loved ones, completely innocent people that shouldn’t had died, I felt more and more frustrated, angry. I couldn’t feel sorrow anymore, but anger, frustration. I wanted this to end, I was going to make it end.

"Classes are suspended for the rest of the week while we mourn the loss of our students and instructors, please take care of your loved ones. See you next week, everyone."

The director, a tall, muscular man with long black hair and a beard spoke through the microphone. His voice was quite serious, and he seemed to be mourning the death of these people as well.

Once it was finally done, everyone started walking away, I gathered with my family and my friends, and I also noticed the Revived Trio talking with them.

They seemed to have calmed down a little bit from yesterday, they panicked a bit too much when they lost their powers and everything.

But now after seeing how many died and how much people suffered, they realized they were lucky they were alive, perhaps.

"Hello everyone, how are you feeling right now?"

"We’re fine, just talking," Emily said. "Kind of hard to process everything I guess... I need a break."

"Yeah," Alma nodded. "I-I’m glad we’re alive though..."

"Hmm..." Sofia looked at me. "These three came to us saying they were sorry."

"Huh?" I looked at them.

Ming Lee, Katherine, and Eduard greeted me, and indeed, as I had guessed, they were a bit humbled with the whole ceremony and the speeches.

"Hello Maria," Eustace said. "We wanted to apologize for how we acted yesterday..."

"Oh really?" I wondered.

"Yeah... We died and you literally revived us," Eustace said. "Y-You did an incredible miracle and... and we acted cocky, we wished we would’ve have died instead, and... we said a lot of stupid things."

"Maybe we were still a bit agitated, sorry..." Katherine muttered.

"I told my parents what happened, and they just said they were happy I was alive..." Ming Lee said. "M-Maybe I was wrong about them..."

These children who believed their strength and superpowers was everything in the world quickly came to the realization that their own lives were much more precious.

"I’m glad you’ve realized that your lives are much more precious, guys," I said with a smile. "You shouldn’t be saying such things ever again, okay? It’s simply not okay."

"I know... I’m sorry," Eduard said. "I know I said I wanted to get back my powers immediately but... I just want to spend some time with my family. Thinking that I could have been one of those students that died... It makes me feel a bit lonely."

"M-Me too..." Katherine sighed, as she looked at Arthur. "Um, Arthur? Thank you for everything too. I know you also helped me out..."

"Hm, it’s alright," Arthur said. "I’m just glad and relieved you’re alive, Katherine."

"Will we meet next week?" She wondered, blushing a bit. "I-I want... Um..."

"I suppose..." Arthur nodded. "Yeah, don’t worry."

"Thanks..." Katherine smiled.

I planned to bring them with us to the training I was planning, but I guess they got their own families and aren’t quite as close to us as Emily, Alma, and Sofia... And Martina I guess, which is more of an extension of Sofia.

As we saw them leaving, we quickly walked back to the classroom to get our stuff from the backpacks, and then we went to the cafeteria to talk about our plans with the girls.

"So are you guys going to take the weekend off?" Emily wondered. "Maria, we could hang out, right? Maybe we can finally try out a karaoke."

"Oh that sounds nice..." I nodded. "But honestly, we really can’t right now."

"Huh? Why?" Alma asked.

"I’m going with everyone else to the archipelago," I said.

"EH?!" Sofia, Alma, and Emily gasped, while Martina, who was listening to music and didn’t hear, looked at us confused as she ate a burger.

"W-Why are you doing that?!" Alma wondered. "You’re going to that nest of monsters again Maria? But what if another Demon appears and...!"

"I know what you may think, but I and my group are strong enough," I said. "Lucifer, Partner, Emeraldine, Nia, Celes, Arachne, Nyx, Arthur, Jonathan, and Nyx, we are all really strong, so you shouldn’t worry."

"But why are you even going there? There’s literally no purpose...!" Sofia said. "Are you trying to get yourself killed anyway?"

"Listen," I sighed. "We want to grow stronger, we will hunt Nightmare Beasts, as many as possible. If we happen to lure a Nightmare Demon, or several, that’s even better."

"S-So you’re going to train and lure demons? But..." Emily muttered, stuttering almost like Alma. "That’s just nuts!"

"I know it sounds nuts but we’re doing it anyway," I said. "We’ve talked about this, and we are planning to not let those Nightmares do more damage. We’re going to hunt them down and reach the end of this."

"T-The end?" Alma asked.

"We’re going to the Nightmare Demon King’s Castle and we’re going to destroy him and his family," I said with a serious expression. "We’ve seen the destruction, and we’ve learned who is behind this. Once he’s stopped, all of this should... end, or at the very least, calm down. And the world might not end up being destroyed." fгee𝑤ebɳoveɭ.cøm

"W-What?! But that’s just nuts, that guy’s super strong and a monster and we don’t even know who he is and where he is and...!" Sofia was having a hard time grasping my plans. "You’re all being delusional!"

"You saw what we were able to do already, Sofia," I said, patting my daughter’s shoulders. "We can kill them; Nightmare Demons aren’t invincible. We are strong, stronger than you imagine... And this is our mission, the responsibility we hold as the owners of such power."

"I’ve seen in my dreams as this world comes to an end..." Emeraldine suddenly said, according to our plan. "At the end of the week, humanity will be destroyed by the Nightmares, and this world will be shrouded by darkness for eternity. We must stop them before this happens."

"S-Since when do you have prophetic dreams?!" Sofia cried.
