Reborn as a Weak Earthling, I Became the Most Overpowered Mage Alive-Chapter 81: Ch : Base Capacity Exceeded- Part 1
"H-Help us...! T-These monsters... there are so many of them..."
The small group ran toward the safe house Andrew and the others were in and somehow ran past the security borders. However, as soon as they crossed the border, a warning flashed across Andrew’s system screen.
[Your safety base has exceeded the limited capacity. Either get another beacon to increase your base’s limits, or lower the number of active players in the base at the current moment.]
The system’s demands were clear, and the monsters also took advantage of the lowered security to attack the cabin.
"What should we do? There are a lot of monsters..."
Clara whispered as she looked at the monsters with a panicked face. Meanwhile, Emperor and Seraphina had already run out to engage with the monsters.
"For now, both you and Clara stay here and try to keep yourselves alive. I will go and check what our new ’friends’ want."
Andrew told the two, and he quickly left.
The new group that had entered their base consisted of eight people. That was why the maximum capacity was being overloaded at the current moment.
[Base capacity: 13/10]
Andrew’s presence was a welcoming surprise for the group that had nearly lost their lives. They looked relieved to see him.
"H-Hello-! P-Please help us out by letting us in. O-Our base was attacked by monsters and was taken over already... S-So many people died..."
The leader whispered as he hugged himself. He sounded traumatized, which told Andrew that his group must have been a huge one.
Still, taking this many people in at the same time was an impossible task if they had to consider their own safety as well.
"Let me take a look at you all first..."
Andrew told them, and his eyes moved over the small group. He immediately caught a familiar ID when he looked at these players, and his staff moved before anyone was able to react as it struck the person.
It disintegrated into a puddle of black goo, and Andrew let out a sigh of relief. 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞
"It seems that there was an imposter in your group. I have taken care of it. But despite that, there are too many people for our base to take in. We only have enough space to take five of you at this moment."
Andrew informed the group, and they looked like they were regretting their life choices.
The leader looked extremely shaken and glanced at his group before looking back at Andrew.
"I... had a feeling that not all of us would be saved. Still, we will be thankful for any protection you are able to provide to any of us. For now, please take the women and the young people of our group. They won’t survive out here for much longer."
The leader sounded apologetic but also hopeful. He stood up and, along with another person, started to walk out of the base area.
"L-Leader, what are you doing? We should be the ones to step out. Your ability will be needed-"
"No, it’s fine. I failed to protect us and also caused those imposters to trick us. I need to take responsibility for what happened."
The leader sounded genuine as he walked out. The people he left behind looked more and more conflicted with his decision, not knowing how they should feel at the moment. Not only had their leader led them so far, but he was also putting his life in danger because of them.
Everyone he had led felt terrible. And yet, they were selfish enough to put their own interests first.
"L-Leader..."
"That is enough of this nonsense. Get inside for now. My companions won’t be able to hold these monsters back forever."
Andrew warned, and two people who said they would step out did.
[Base capacity: 10/10. The barrier will be restored.]
A transparent barrier filled the area, and the monster waves that had been attacking were suddenly cut off.
With only the monsters inside the barrier left to fight, it was easy for Emperor and Seraphina to pick off the remains.
However, now that the main attack target of the monsters was cut off, they turned their attention toward the leader and his subordinate, who stood outside the protection area.
"It will be alright. I will go back to our old base, look for the beacon, and bring it back. I-I will somehow make it back alive."
The leader promised as he and his partner ran away from the monsters.
"N-No way-! Will our leader die?"
"He cannot die-! Not after all he helped us with-"
The small group looked shattered, and Andrew had no intention of playing house with them.
"Lilianna, take a look at their wounds first and get them to rest. Night will fall soon, and we need to be ready for anything that could happen."
Andrew told Lilianna, and she nodded before she started to use her abilities on the new players.
They looked beyond shocked at Lilianna’s abilities and immediately tried to get close to her. But Clara blocked their path and left the outsiders with no choice but to keep their distance.
However, despite how much Andrew had helped the new group, he could see that there was a growing rift between him and them. They did not trust him and often ignored him.
The only ones they talked to regularly were Clara and Lilianna. Still, Andrew could pick up bits of what they said.
"-That man is vicious. He did not even bat an eye as he threw our leader and vice-leader out-"
"But didn’t the base have a capacity limit? What should Andrew have done?"
"We know. B-But both him and the other two are strong... They could have figured out something if they stepped out of the range. Why did our leader...?"
The refugees they had taken in were rather ungrateful and kept trying to pick a fight and drive a rift between Andrew and the others.
Unfortunately for them, instead of falling for their clumsy attempts at manipulation, both Clara and Lilianna were growing suspicious of the refugees.
