Reborn as an Yandere : Yandere X Yandere-Chapter 235: Dream!
Chapter 235 - Dream!
"...Will Kaelith come to class tomorrow?"
Maruti repeated the question over and over again, her voice quiet and serious. As she chanted, she could feel her mana being slowly drained, even though she wasn't trying to use it. The wooden stick in front of her trembled, then slowly, it turned and pointed straight at "No" on the white paper.
Her eyes widened.
"Holy shit! It actually works!" she shouted, half-jumping up from the floor.
She wasn't just surprised—it actually made her happy. That meant Kaelith won't come tomorrow! Finally, one peaceful day without being watched or followed.
But her smile didn't last long.
A cold chill ran down her back like someone had just whispered behind her. Her joy turned into a nervous frown.
"Wait... what if she's not coming because she's planning something?"
Her mind spun in all directions.
What if Kaelith was skipping class because she was preparing to do something crazy? Like stalking her even more... or worse?
Maruti sat down again quickly, not even bothering to fix her veil. Her hands came together in a rush and she took a deep breath, trying to calm herself.
She was about to ask, "Is there something wrong with Kaelith?"
But she stopped herself.
She let out a small laugh, shaking her head. "Of course there is. That girl is anything but sane."
Then she thought about asking, "Will Kaelith stalk me again?"
But what was the point? The answer was going to be "Yes" for sure. She was certain Kaelith was watching her every single day.
So she changed her question to something scarier. Something that made her stomach twist.
She took a deep breath and asked:
"Will Kaelith and Alice become more obsessed with me?"
She repeated it again and again, like a chant. Her voice grew a little shaky, and the soft candles flickered.
Her mana started to drain again.
As she opened her eyes and looked down—
The wooden stick didn't just turn toward "Yes".
It flew across the paper so fast that it launched off the floor, hit the wall, and snapped in half.
For a second, she couldn't even breathe.
She stared at the broken stick now lying on the floor by the wall. Her heart thudded loudly in her chest.
"W-What the hell was that? You can't scare me like that!" she whispered.
She rushed to her desk and grabbed the book on divination. She flipped through the pages, searching, until she found the section she was looking for.
"The speed of the wooden stick during a divination tells the intensity of the answer."
"For example, if you ask 'Will something bad happen tomorrow?' and the stick moves slowly to 'Yes', then it means tomorrow will be bad, but not too much."
"But if the stick moves quickly—it means something very bad is coming."
Maruti stared at the page, then slowly turned her head to the broken stick.
Her face turned pale.
"The stick didn't just move fast..." she whispered.
"It went flying and broke into two pieces."
Her knees felt weak. Her stomach twisted.
"F*ck... I'm really in trouble."
But then, a sudden thought popped into Maruti's mind.
"Let me divine if I'll get into any kind of trouble because of them!" she whispered to herself.
Without wasting a moment, she sat down again in the middle of the glowing magic circle. Her legs folded neatly, her heart a little nervous. She pulled out another wooden stick from the small box beside her.
She had many of them—almost a dozen. It wasn't a rare item. Any normal wooden stick worked for this kind of simple divination, so it was easy to replace the broken one.
"I'll get in trouble because of Alice and Kaelith."
She repeated the sentence again and again with closed eyes, focusing hard. She could feel the mana flowing out from her again, a little faster this time.
After a few moments, she opened her eyes slowly.
The wooden stick was shaking.
It wasn't moving clearly toward "Yes" or "No". It wobbled in the middle, struggling to pick a side, like it was confused.
"What does this mean?" she mumbled, her eyebrows lowering.
She stood up quickly and ran to the divination book again. Flipping through the pages, she finally found the answer.
"If the stick lands between yes and no, it means the future depends on your own actions. What happens next will be decided by what you choose to do."
Maruti sat down on the bed and thought deeply.
"So... it's up to me? I'll be safe or in danger depending on how I act?"
Suddenly, memories of all those crazy yandere anime characters flooded her brain—those scary, obsessive girls who smile sweetly one second, then stab people the next if they get rejected.
"If the main character says yes, they stay safe. But if they reject the yandere, she loses her mind and goes wild!"
Maruti's face turned pale.
"So do I just go along with whatever Kaelith and Alice want from me?" she wondered aloud. But then, she shook her head hard.
"No! I won't give up that easily! Why should I surrender without even trying to fight back?" she said, slapping her cheeks lightly to stay focused.
But her expression turned sour again.
"Well... that doesn't change the fact that... I already promised them I'd go on a date with them tomorrow," she muttered and let out a heavy sigh.
Her shoulders dropped. Her body felt tired, but her mind was still spinning.
She decided to try one more kind of divination.
A dream divination.
Unlike the other ones, this needed more mana and information like full name, Birthday, And some personal things or you personally know the person. But since she already knew Alice and Kaelith very well—especially Kaelith—it was still possible for her to do it.
She took a small sheet of paper and wrote a question on it with a soft red pen:
"The reason they are obsessed with me."
Then, she burned the paper gently in the candle until it turned to ashes.
She lay down again inside the magic circle, closed her eyes, and let herself sink into sleep. The mana in the air grew cold and heavy.
She fell into a deep sleep within seconds.
In her dream, she saw a seductive girl with short brown hair, tanned skin, and large breasts.
It was her.
She saw herself.
And right then—
Her eyes snapped open and the dream ended.
She sat up slowly, confused.
"Me...?" she whispered, her eyes staring blankly at the window.
"Seriously? The reason they're obsessed with me is just... me?"
She sighed again. A long, deep sigh filled with both sadness and frustration.
There was nothing she could do about who she was.
Still, she wasn't ready to give up. She decided to ask one last question—one final divination.
"A way to escape from their obsession with me."
She wrote the question on another paper, burned it in the candle, then lay back down again. Her eyes closed.
Her last hope was to find a way to make their obsession weaker—just a little. Anything to make her life peaceful and normal again.
She fell asleep.
This time, the dream was different.
She saw herself lying on a stone altar.
A heavy sword was stabbed deep into her stomach.
Blood was pouring out.
Her eyes were shut. Her body didn't move.
Her face looked peaceful... but lifeless.
Maruti woke up with a loud gasp.
Her chest rose and fell as she panted hard, trying to breathe.
"Death...? The only way to escape is death?" she whispered, eyes wide and full of horror.
She sat there frozen.
Her fists clenched tightly.
"I swear... if I ever meet that damn goddess Seraphine, I'll slap her in the face! I'll strangle her neck and scream curses in her ears all night long!" she shouted at the empty room, her voice shaking with both fear and anger.
Maruti fell back onto the bed, her heart pounding.
All she wanted was peace.
Instead... she got a prophecy of death.
Accepting her defeat, Maruti sighed deeply and closed her eyes.
She just wanted to forget everything and have a peaceful night's sleep.
But of course, even that simple wish didn't come true.
Knock! Knock! Knock!
The loud knocking echoed through her quiet room.
Maruti's eyes snapped open. Her heart skipped a beat.
She looked around in panic—her room was still a mess from the divination ritual.
Without wasting a second, she jumped up. She quickly grabbed the white veil, blew out the candles, and stuffed the wooden stick into her drawer. The glowing white salt circle on the floor? She brushed it away with her hands and feet as fast as she could.
Only when everything looked clean and normal again did she take a deep breath.
She walked toward the door with a heavy heart, already knowing who it was. She opened it with a blank, tired expression on her face.
"I thought you forgot about it," she said dryly.
Standing outside was Esdeath. Her pale skin looked like cold snow under the moonlight. Her deep red eyes glowed slightly in the dark, giving her an almost ghostly look.
"You were doing divination," Esdeath said in a calm, matter-of-fact voice as she stepped into the room like she owned the place.
"Wha~ What? What makes you think that?" Maruti's voice cracked as she tried to play dumb, but her cheeks were turning pink, and her hands were shaking a little.
Esdeath smirked as she looked around. "My eyes can clearly see the flow of mana and spiritual energy. You were definitely doing divination. So? Did you get your answer?"
Maruti's face turned red—not from embarrassment, but from pure frustration.
"I want to strangle that Seraphine bitch! And slap her for giving me such stupid, useless answers!" she snapped, her fists clenched tightly.
"You can't do that," Esdeath said casually as she sat down on the edge of Maruti's bed. "She's dead."
Maruti blinked. "What?! Then how the hell did she answer me?!"
Esdeath stretched her arms lazily and said, "She's dead, but her divinity still exists. Millions of people still worship her. And besides, when she was alive, she was a Time Path Constellation. Praying to her still gives pretty accurate answers."
Maruti paused. Her brain was still trying to catch up. "Oh... I thought you were about to give me a whole boring history lesson on how she died and all that crap," she said with a forced chuckle.
Esdeath laughed softly. "I could. But maybe another time."
Then, without warning, Esdeath pulled out her storage-type essence stone. She tapped it lightly, and suddenly, the entire room was filled with glowing items. The air became heavy with mana.
Maruti's eyes widened as she looked at everything spreading across her room.
"We have six Rank B essence stones, two Rank A ones, and thirty Rank C essence stones," Esdeath said, pointing at each one like a shopkeeper. "And this—" she lifted a large red egg—"this is a Red Dragon Egg. It's no longer alive, but it's become a Rank S material."
She moved on to the next items.
"20 kilograms of Blue Dragon bones... and three pairs of pupil-less cosmic tuna fish eyeballs."
Maruti blinked twice. She was stunned.
"Huh? That's it?" she asked in confusion.
"Of course that's it!" Esdeath crossed her arms. "The rest was used up by Elara's clone during the divine rank essence stone refinement. And the ones that could've been saved were destroyed when Ethan broke the ritual by force."
She said it in a short and cold tone, like she didn't want to talk about it anymore.
Maruti stared at the two Rank A essence stones and mumbled, "Damn... we're rich. We're seriously rich!"
But right after, she coughed awkwardly.
"Ahem... wait. I can't decide anything right now. My mind's already a mess because of... well, some things. How about you give me a list of everything, and we divide them next week?" she suggested with a tired smile.
Esdeath rolled her eyes and huffed. "Hmph! I came all this way trying to avoid Lortell's eyes, and now I've wasted my time."
She put everything back into the storage essence stone with a flick of her wrist.
Then, as she stood up, she reminded Maruti of something very important.
"Also... threaten Princess Ravenna. Make her give us high-ranked essence stones or some valuable refinement materials. We only have one month before her family finds a way to boost her ESR talent. If that happens, we won't be able to stop her anymore."
Esdeath turned toward the door, then added with a serious tone, "But don't ask for Rank A. Just aim for rare Rank B or C stones... or those bookworm stones that have magical knowledge inside them."
Maruti raised an eyebrow and sighed deeply, resting her chin in her hand.
"Why don't you just make her your slave instead? That would be way easier."
Esdeath shook her head firmly. "Don't even think about that. She's the only princess of the Anastasia Kingdom. We'll get exposed in no time!",
"Okay, okay," Maruti replied with a lazy nod. "Then how about I kill Cassandra for you? Since I couldn't kill Alice, at least let me handle her."
But Esdeath shook her head again, her expression more serious now. "Even though she's our enemy... Cassandra is still Lortell's sister. If I kill her without a good reason and Lortell finds out... if she gets disappointed in me..." She paused and clenched her fists. "No. I can't take that risk."
Maruti looked away with a smirk and muttered, "Lortell's little puppy..."
Esdeath pretended not to hear her and started walking to the door.
"Well then, go visit the princess tomorrow. Early night should be perfect. She'll be alone in her bedroom at that time," Esdeath said as she waved her hand and opened the door.
"Wait! But I have a date tomorrow... with Kaelith and Alice!" Maruti protested, her eyes wide.
Esdeath only turned her head slightly with a teasing grin on her face. "Heh... Kaelith's puppy." Then she walked out and closed the door behind her.
—
Esdeath quietly returned to her room. The hallway was silent, and the air was cool. As soon as she stepped inside, she softly closed the door behind her and tiptoed to her bed.
She gently slipped under the blanket and hugged Selene close like she had never left the room.
Selene's eyes were half-open. She was awake, but she didn't ask where Esdeath had gone. Deep inside, she already knew that her mother had gone out for something important. She didn't want to disturb her.
Selene was a smart child. Too mature for her age. She simply snuggled closer to Esdeath, wrapping her small arms around her mother and soon drifted back to sleep.
Esdeath also closed her eyes and slowly drifted off. Her breathing calmed, and her mind slipped into a dream.
In her dream, she wasn't Esdeath anymore. She was back in her old body—Fable. Back on Earth. Sitting on her bed after retiring from the hitman life, just playing some random game for fun instead of Free Life Fantasy.
Everything felt strangely peaceful.
But then something changed.
Fable froze.
A sudden feeling washed over him—no, over her. It was the feeling that this was a dream. And not just any dream. Someone was trying to break in.
Fable—or rather Esdeath—had suffered from hallucinations when he was only around seven or eight years old, due to a dark childhood trauma. Because of that, he had developed an unusual ability. Even in dreams, he could often tell when she was dreaming.
And now, in this strange world of magic and gods, her instincts screamed at her—someone was entering her dream.
His mind reacted.
His subconscious pushed back, and the dream shifted suddenly.
She was Esdeath again. A girl.
She found herself sitting in her academy dorm room, dressed neatly and sitting in a chair by her desk. Her posture was straight, calm, but alert.
Then the door began to tremble slightly. It creaked, though no one had knocked. There was no one else in the room.
Slowly... the door opened.
And someone stepped inside.
Esdeath's heart calmed a little when she saw who it was—but she didn't show it on her face. Her eyes stayed sharp. Her lips firm.
She stared at the figure and spoke in a cold, serious voice.
"It's rude to barge into someone's dream, Cassandra."
