Chapter 1788: Chapter 1690: It’s Real

Zhao Si dashed back to the police car like his pants were on fire, leaving the three other officers utterly bewildered.

"Li Gang, what’s got you so worked up? That Zheng Lixiang is just putting on a show of bravado. We didn’t offend any big shots from her crew. Just gave a little girl a scare, didn’t even do anything. Why are you so scared?"

"Are we seriously letting this go? What about that guy Zhao Si’s side? And that woman had a gun; we’re out of our league. Should we tell Zhao Si and let him figure something else out?"

A companion began to suggest blindly, and Li Gang froze at those words, sternly shouting, "Shut up, all of you!"

Seeing Li Gang’s overreaction, the other three in the car looked puzzled and instinctively turned towards him, "Li Gang, what’s going on?" 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂

"Are you all idiots? If that woman were an ordinary person, would she have the guts to brazenly show off her handgun and point it at the police? Do regular people have that kind of courage? Even you wouldn’t dare do that, would you?"

Just recalling the officer ID he saw with Huo Sining, Li Gang couldn’t control his shivers:

"You know what she called me back for earlier, to show me something?"

The companions perked up with his words, "Almost forgot, why did that woman call you back suddenly? What did she show you to scare you like this?"

Their expressions were facetious, mocking, as if amused, even with a hint of mischievousness.

Li Gang knew they’d surely misunderstood, exasperated but also fearful, he coldly glanced at them, "Something you’d never expect—she showed me an officer ID."

The three cops paused before bursting into laughter, "An officer ID scared you like that? So she’s from military school, knows how to save folks, probably a military doctor. Judging by her age, could only be a lieutenant at most, why are you so frightened?"

Li Gang eyed his self-satisfied colleagues uncomfortably, resisting the urge to expose the harsh truth, knowing even he’d be skeptical if he hadn’t witnessed it himself.

"Not a lieutenant."

Li Gang interrupted their snickers, slowly articulating, "A major general!"

The trio’s smiles froze instantly, somewhat disbelieving their ears, "What did you say?"

"I said..."

Li Gang inhaled deeply, then continued, "The officer ID she showed me read major general!"

Major general—like thunder clapping in their ears, the three were stunned, looking at each other in disbelief.

"Major general? Hahahaha—"

Liao Ping was the first to react, clutching his stomach with laughter, "Come on, Li Gang, this joke is ice-cold, kills me! A twenty-year-old major general, hahaha, I can’t, it’s too funny!"

The other two couldn’t hold back, "Where’d that little girl get a fake ID to fool people? Think we’re all idiots to believe her nonsense? I bet her gun is a fake too, right?"

"Could be, I saw her gun, seemed like the new Swiss model, a pocket revolver—small but powerful, special bullets, costs like thirty thousand British Pounds. Not that any regular person can afford it, even if they could, it’s tough to procure. Bet her gun is just a flashy toy!"

"Enough!"

Li Gang finally couldn’t endure his pig-headed team’s obliviousness:

"Are you idiots? Still not grasping things, Zheng Lixiang is Yulong Shengshi’s boss. Didn’t you see how tense she was about that Huo woman? If she were ordinary, would Zheng show such anxiety?"

"Even if Li Gang hasn’t seen much, I can still tell whether an officer ID is fake or not."

"No more guessing, the woman’s officer ID is real, the gun is real too. She’s the special-status woman mentioned in the recent documents!"

Everyone froze at this, Liao Ping and the others exchanged glances, their smiles vanishing, all revealing serious and tense expressions in their eyes: "Not possible?"

But, they silently questioned themselves:

Why not possible? If she really were a major general, everything would make sense. Why else would she get such attention from above? A young major general must have abilities unknown to others, hence the high-level interest!

Suddenly, they were all dumbstruck, none expecting that a routine dispatch would offend a major general!

"That damned Zhao Si, isn’t this manipulating us like fools? We’re screwed, offending someone like that, what’s going to happen to us now?"

Liao Ping, being hot-headed, was the first to lose patience, almost rushing to Zhao Si to demand answers.

Li Gang, though, wasn’t overly worried, as Huo Sining’s last words offered him a sliver of solace. He knew she wouldn’t bother with minor details, if anything, she’d take it up with Zhao Si.

"Alright, when gods fight, it’s the imps who suffer, you’ve seen this before. We’re small fry, stuck waiting to get cut. But I think she’s generous and will overlook us. We better stay out of it. Zhao Si’s getting his comeuppance, just sit back and watch the show!"

As Li Gang spoke, although the others were somewhat anxious, they felt his words held some truth and nodded in agreement.

Li Gang still held personal motivations, aware of Huo Sining’s identity, knowing Zhao Si might be in for a rough ride.

A mere Justice Bureau director daring oppose a major general, isn’t that just ants shaking a great tree?

They all were Zhao Si’s pawns, Zhao Si got their precinct’s chief to aid him, who handed off the operation to them for Zhao Si’s gain.

They couldn’t refuse, if they lose their jobs due to Zhao Si’s mess, Li Gang knew Zhao Si wouldn’t compensate them.

Thus, it was natural to hope Zhao Si had a taste of suffering, to teach him they can’t be the sole bearers of risk!
