Reborn As Super Heiress-Chapter 1789 - 1691: Staying Behind
Over there, Zhao Si was unaware of the sudden change in circumstances. After enduring for several hours, they finally saw the arrival of the rescue team. However, by this time, Master Zhao had already fallen into shock due to excessive blood loss.
Master Zhao was placed into an ambulance, but due to a shortage in the blood bank, he had to be urgently transferred to Qing City, hanging by a thread. Zhao Si was both tense and furious, immediately blaming everything on Huo Sining.
In Zhao Si’s view, if that woman had been willing to help that afternoon by stopping the bleeding for Master Zhao, none of this would’ve happened, and the old man wouldn’t have suffered such distress.
Filled with rage, Zhao Si watched as his father was transferred to Qing City. His anger surged, and he hurried towards the Meishan Town Police Station.
He was determined to make that woman endure the same suffering Master Zhao did, to teach her a lesson about the value of life!
However, to his surprise, when he arrived at the Meishan Town Police Station, the person he was looking for was not there.
"Where is she? Didn’t I tell you to bring that woman over? Didn’t your chief inform you?"
Furious, Zhao Si strode in and sternly questioned Li Gang.
Li Gang and the others had just walked through the Ghost Gate Pass, nearly scared to death. With Zhao Si coming to blame them, they were frustrated with nowhere to vent their grievances!
"Director Zhao! Our police station is a legitimate institution. To dispatch officers, there must be a justified reason. You say to bring someone over at a whim; what would that make the police station? We are sustained by taxpayers, not to act as stooges for certain elites and oppress our own benefactors, are we?"
Li Gang replied in a cold tone.
Zhao Si’s face turned stiff, not expecting Li Gang to speak so straightforwardly and sharply, giving him no face at all.
Zhao Si had risen through the ranks of the Judicial Bureau over the years, relying on his family’s connections. He had always sailed smoothly in officialdom and was always flattered. Suddenly being exposed so directly left him embarrassed.
He took several deep breaths, barely suppressing his anger, regained a bit of composure, and glared at Li Gang viciously, asking coldly:
"I’m not talking to you. Where is your Chief Zhang? Tell him to come see me!"
Li Gang, still in his protective gear, replied to Zhao Si nonchalantly, "The chief has joined the earthquake relief team. If you have any issues, you can talk to us."
Zhao Si was displeased with the police’s attitude toward him but knew it wasn’t a good time to fall out with them. He thought to himself, they’re just some low-ranking police officers. Once he settled the affair with that woman, he would have ways to make these small-time officers pay!
Zhao Si looked at the faces of Li Gang and his colleagues, memorizing their features before asking, "When will your Chief Zhang return?"
Li Gang scoffed internally. When would he return? After learning about Huo Sining’s true identity, Chief Zhang was terrified, afraid of trouble, and had fled long ago. How could he possibly bother with you?
Li Gang knew full well that Chief Zhang hadn’t gone for disaster relief but to escape trouble. However, in front of Zhao Si, he couldn’t reveal the truth and could only play along:
"The disaster is severe, so Chief Zhang said he had to set an example and join the rescue efforts. It might take some time for him to return. Director Zhao, why don’t you wait here? Liao Ping, let’s go!"
Liao Ping and his colleagues responded, each casting a schadenfreude-filled glance at Zhao Si before leaving the police station, blatantly ignoring him.
Zhao Si’s face turned crimson red, incredulously looking at the junior officers, "Do you know who I am? I’m telling you, get your chief back here, or else—"
Zhao Si was interrupted by Liao Ping before he could finish, "Come on, Director Zhao, stop throwing your weight around in front of us. What’s the big deal about being a director in the Judicial Bureau? You’re struggling to protect yourself, yet making a fuss here, truly senseless!"
Zhao Si was about to explode with rage, feeling that Liao Ping was cursing him intolerably, "Who are you calling unable to protect themselves? What’s your name? Believe it or not, I’ll have Zhang Deming fire you?"
Liao Ping waved dismissively, "Go ahead, fire us. If you want to find Chief Zhang, go look for him yourself; we’re all busy."
The group couldn’t be bothered anymore with the self-righteous Zhao Si and walked straight out of the police station.
After the events of the afternoon, Liao Ping and Li Gang knew they’d caused trouble. Although Huo Sining said she wouldn’t hold them accountable, they couldn’t be sure others, especially their chief, wouldn’t use this to curry favor with Huo Sining by making an example out of them.
So, to ensure their livelihoods weren’t jeopardized, the group decided after a discussion to make amends by pleasing Huo Sining.
Thus, Huo Sining witnessed the following scene.
After exchanging pleasantries with Zheng Lixiang and Xie Yuxing, declining their request to leave Meishan with the crew, Huo Sining stayed behind with Xiao Fan and some children.
Though her strength was as insignificant as a drop in the ocean, Huo Sining decided to remain in the disaster area temporarily to save lives, knowing full well that any effort was minuscule against a natural disaster. Yet, she stubbornly stayed.
Then, Huo Sining saw four police officers in protective gear approaching her.
Li Gang, maintaining a serious demeanor, addressed Huo Sining, "Miss Huo, we’re all on duty today. We’ll be following your lead. If you have any instructions, feel free to let us know. We’re here to assist."
Huo Sining did not expect Li Gang and his colleagues to return, which surprised her somewhat. However, she quickly realized their intention, sighing quietly in her heart.
These individuals volunteered to help not out of a desire to save others but to atone for their previous mistakes, hoping not to lose their police jobs.
Huo Sining’s impression of Li Gang and the others wasn’t particularly high. However, at this time, having a couple of capable hands to assist was a rarity.
Thus, with the mindset of using them for free, Huo Sining didn’t nitpick further and nodded in agreement with Li Gang and the others’ request, allowing them to follow and assist her.
