Reborn for Revenge: Find her Fated Alpha-Chapter 144: The one who came to meet him
Cyrus lay in his bed, his abdomen covered in bandages, his eyes closed as he relaxed and tried to gather some energy that Sylas had told him was necessary if they wanted to start training to transform into their wolf form.
Amelia went to the palace to change her stained clothes and to bring a set of clean clothes for him.
He had insisted that Miss Quinn bring the clothes for both of them, but Amelia said it was very much a wife-like thing, and she wanted to do it.
At the end, he just nodded and was waiting for his wife to return when he felt the familiar presence around him.
It was faint, but he could immediately recognise it.
He didn’t open his eyes. He didn’t feel the need to.
"For someone who has already sensed me, you are quite ignorant. What if I attack you?" The person asked, and Cyrus raised his brows.
"I know you want to. The question is, will you?" Cyrus opened his eyes slowly and looked straight into the man’s eyes, who gritted his teeth.
"So you won the face-off," Kyle said, sitting beside him and taking an apple in his hand.
Cyrus observed his actions like a hawk.
Though he knew he wouldn’t attack, he didn’t want to take any chances with how he might try to do something else.
"You knew I’d win," Cyrus said.
"I did," Kyle said before he smirked, his amber eyes shining with mischief.
"Did you show your present to Amelia? You are the one who blew off Bentley’s estate, didn’t you?" Kyle smiled.
Cyrus paused for a second. He has asked his team to do it in hiding.
Since Dominic Bentley has been so eager to keep attacking his wife, sending men to ambush her, he thought he might give the man a taste of his medicine.
And thus, he blew off the main building of Bentley’s estate under the pretense of being a rogue.
He wanted to do it himself, but with Amelia worried about his health, he didn’t want to leave her to care for him.
"What are you talking about?" Cyrus tried to dodge the bullet.
With his wolf beating Patrick to death’s door, the family was already peachy about him, and if they found out he blew off Bentley’s main building, they’d turn against him.
While he didn’t care what they thought about it since no one even stepped ahead to stop Patrick when he used those illegal means to hurt him, he didn’t want them to blame his wife and say that it was all because of her.
Kyle cut a few slices of the apple and offered them to Cyrus. The man raised his brows but took the slice nonetheless and ate it.
"I have been observing you lately, Cyrus," Kyle said.
"Why?" Cyrus asked.
Earlier, he had thought he wanted to meet Kyle due to the recent activities among the rogues. Still, he realised that a significant part of it also revolved around Amelia’s constant involvement with him.
However, it was only after meeting Kyle and seeing their interaction that he realised he wasn’t the only one who wanted to meet him.
Kyle probably had been looking for such an opportunity, too.
Kyle looked at the man, his eyes stopping at the mark on his neck, and he felt something twist his heart at the sight.
The sight reminded him of his failure to persuade Amelia into giving him a mark, too, the one that he deserved for being her mate.
He contemplated telling Cyrus the truth about Amelia, whom he had been hiding from him. After all, someone had to tell the guy that the so-called marriage scenario they were playing was a fiasco.
Nothing was more important than a mate bond in the supernatural world.
However, remembering Amelia’s soft expression and how she told him that she would reveal the truth to Cyrus soon, Kyle took a deep breath.
"What did you really want to talk to me about? I am sure you didn’t call me to talk about Amelia only," Kyle said.
Cyrus looked at Kyle with a meaningful gaze.
"Is it true that you played all that part for me to have some evidence against Dominic? Why are you supporting me?" He asked.
Kyle stood from his place and walked around the room.
"I sympathise with you," he said.
The man’s voice held a genuineness that confused Cyrus.
Why would a rogue head like him, who is always against the laws, sympathise with him? And when did he even ask for that?
"When did I–" Cyrus was about to start when Kyle scoffed.
"Yeah, yeah, I know. You didn’t ask for sympathy, but I still did. Not for you, but for Amelia. Because at the end of the day, she is not yours to keep. She is mine. You lost your father when you were in your mother’s womb, and then your mother when you were born. I sympathise with you because I can relate," Kyle said.
Cyrus wanted to retaliate and say what right he had to talk about his miseries, but stopped when Kyle said he could relate.
"Everyone knows I am an orphan. A fisherman found me on a seashore and then put me in an orphanage after my adoptive parents died. Went through a racket where they exploited people like me, until I rose to power," Kyle paused to look at Cyrus.
"Don’t you think in some way or other, we faced the same fate. Our years of suffering collide," He said and walked to the window, looking outside at Dominic’s man who was roaming out of the hospital, just like he had guessed.
Cyrus didn’t interrupt Kyle this time.
He had run a background check on Kyle before inviting him to meet. And whatever the man said was indeed true.
But he was confused about one thing... Why was the man bringing all these things out of the blue? He was about to ask when Kyle turned to him.
"However, you got lucky in one matter. Your mother is not dead, Cyrus. That’s what I have been looking into. Don’t misunderstand. It’s all for Amelia." A small smile appeared on Kyle’s face at the mention of Amelia before he narrowed his gaze at Cyrus.
"And before you say a bad word about your mother, just remember that whatever you know is through others’ perspectives. What if your mother is the one who suffered?" Kyle’s words made Cyrus freeze in his place.
It wasn’t as though he had never considered this possibility, but he didn’t have any evidence to support it. But her mother’s betrayal had too much proof.
"Start by searching Bentley’s estate. He is the only person who benefited the most by Gloria’s disappearance," Kyle shrugged.
He had been looking into this matter after Amelia told him to when that mysterious man contacted her, and every time he started with a new beginning, he ended up tracing it back to Dominic only.
After all, he was the only person who had seen Gloria the last time and was with her in her final days.
Something terrible happened that night; everyone knew that, but something inside him was saying that Gloria was alive. Dominic was too cunning to let go of such a great pawn that he could use against Cyrus anytime.
