Reborn in the 1970s — Married a Proud Rough Man-Chapter 85 - 43: You Actually Dare to Hack
"Jie Jingchen, violence doesn’t solve anything," Qin Mei advised. Coming from someone who would dislocate a person’s jaw at the drop of a hat, her words weren’t very convincing.
Jie Jingchen’s lips curved into a smile as he looked at Qin Mei. It was a smile filled with amusement, but with a ruthless edge. "Violence may not solve the problem, but it sure is satisfying."
"You have to consider your own condition before resorting to violence. Jie Jingchen, your health is your most important asset. I don’t care how you abuse your body when I’m not around, but I won’t allow it when I am. Just wait here." Still worried, Qin Mei turned to Jie Jingshan and said, "Jing Qi, watch your fourth brother."
"Okay, Fourth Sister-in-law." Jie Jingshan clutched the hem of Jie Jingchen’s shirt.
Qin Mei smiled in satisfaction and ran toward the kitchen. Everyone was bewildered. What was she going to do in there?
When Qin Mei ran out of the kitchen holding a cleaver, everyone was stunned. Liu Guihua and the other two were especially terrified.
"Get out of the way." Qin Mei stood before Liu Guihua, brandishing the cleaver.
"Mom!" Xu Chunyan’s heart leaped. Her eyes filled with worry, but she didn’t dare to step forward. Qin Mei was holding a knife.
"Fourth Sister-in-law!" Jie Jingshan cried out. ’Using a knife is taking it too far.’
"Qin Mei," Jie Jingchen called out, thinking the same thing as Jie Jingshan.
Xu Chunwang remained silent. A patch on his chest was soaked with drool. He was a pathetic sight. With his burly frame, he’d spent his whole life bullying others. He had never been on the losing end before. By coming to the Jie residence today, he had finally met his match.
"Are you going to move, or not?" Qin Mei’s voice wasn’t loud, but it was laced with a chilling coldness.
"I’m not." Liu Guihua lifted her chin and puffed out her chest. She was certain Qin Mei wouldn’t dare to strike her.
Qin Mei sneered and tapped the door with the back of the cleaver. "Your daughter injured Jie Jingchen. It’s only fair for a mother to pay her daughter’s debts. I injure you, and we’ll call it even." 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝔀𝓮𝒃𝙣𝓸𝒗𝒆𝒍.𝙘𝒐𝒎
Liu Guihua rolled her eyes in disdain and snorted. "Hmph! I don’t believe you’d actually dare to—"
As Qin Mei lifted her hand, the blade came down.
"AH!" Xu Chunyan let out a terrified scream.
A jolt of pain shot through her thigh. Liu Guihua looked down and saw the cleaver resting on her leg. She shrieked, "Ah! You actually hit me?"
"Are you moving? This time, I used the flat of the blade. Next time, it’ll be the edge." Qin Mei’s tone grew colder, and her intimidating aura struck fear into everyone’s hearts.
Liu Guihua was thoroughly frightened. She fell backward off the threshold, her large body still blocking the doorway. Her face was ashen as she instantly realized that Qin Mei wasn’t bluffing—she would actually do it.
"Mom!" Seeing this, Xu Chunyan breathed a sigh of relief. She rushed forward, grabbed Liu Guihua’s arm, and pulled with all her might. Xu Chunyan was quite strong, but Liu Guihua was too heavy; she couldn’t budge her. "Chunwang, hurry up and help!"
She had once chased Qin Mei with a cleaver and even managed to wound Jie Jingchen, which had infuriated her father-in-law. In all her years married into the Jie family, that was the first time he had ever gotten angry enough to strike her. In the end, nothing came of the incident, but it had left her with a deep-seated fear. Now, the mere sight of a cleaver made her blood run cold.
Enduring the pain in his jaw, Xu Chunwang went to help Xu Chunyan drag their terrified, limp mother out of the way.
Qin Mei was satisfied. ’Cleavers really are useful.’
"Jing Qi, hold this." Qin Mei handed the cleaver to Jing Qi. Now that her goal was achieved, the cleaver had served its purpose. But she wasn’t foolish enough to just toss it on the ground. There was no guarantee that Liu Guihua’s group wouldn’t snatch it up and chase after them. People lose all reason when they’re angry.
’She’d rather injure them than be injured herself. The cleaver was much safer in friendly hands.’
Qin Mei and Jie Jingchen worked together to lift Jie Jingshan, wheelchair and all, over the threshold. Then, Qin Mei took over pushing the wheelchair.
Jie Jingchen walked behind them, then suddenly looked back. His gaze locked onto Xu Chunwang, his amber eyes narrowing dangerously, emitting a chilling glint.
"Fourth Sister-in-law, this cleaver...?" Jie Jingshan asked, holding it cautiously.
"Hold onto it. For self-defense," Qin Mei said with a gentle smile.
"Fourth Sister-in-law, weren’t you scared?" When Jie Jingshan saw Qin Mei swing the cleaver, she had been terrified. It was only when she saw Qin Mei had used the flat of the blade that she realized her sister-in-law hadn’t actually meant to hurt Xu Chunyan’s mother, but was just trying to scare her.
"I was," Qin Mei answered honestly. ’I was afraid Liu Guihua wouldn’t be scared of dying. Keeping up my intimidating act was a gamble—a bet that she was afraid to die. Everyone is.’
"Then why did you still use the knife?" Jie Jingshan lowered her gaze, staring blankly at the cleaver in her hands.
"To give them a good scare." The cleaver was the first thing that came to her mind, especially since Xu Chunyan had chased her with one before and had even wounded Jie Jingchen.
"You definitely scared them," Jie Jingshan said. She turned her head to look up at Qin Mei with admiration. "We’ve all seen how unreasonable Second Sister-in-law’s mother can be. You really scared the daylights out of her this time. It’s a shame Mom didn’t get to see it."
