Reborn Young Miss: Phoenix Burning Red-Chapter 425: Altering Fate (1)
The more Lewis followed his daughter’s everyday activities, the more he realized how much she had grown and changed since he last saw her. Adrienne looked happier and more confident than when she was younger.
Watching her grow up, Lewis thought this daughter of his was too attached to her mother and would always seek her for reassurance. However, as Lewis watched her from afar, he could see that Adrienne had become independent and rarely sought out her wealthy husband for help when running her business.
Adrienne would travel with bodyguards who followed her everywhere she went. Still, Lewis noticed that she carried herself with a sense of authority and made decisions confidently. It was clear to him that his daughter had blossomed into a strong and capable woman, capable of handling any challenges that came her way—so different from Adrienne, who begged him on her knees to save her mother’s life years ago.
It was a pity that his daughter had a rebellious streak and refused to cooperate with him. She was determined to live on her own terms, even if it meant defying her father.
Lewis also found it difficult to bribe anyone near her. He was also surprised to see that she hired that notorious loan shark who ruined Cayden’s reputation during his father’s birthday banquet. It was easy for him to figure out that Adrienne was also the one behind it.
The more he thought about it, the more he felt rage towards Adrienne. Lewis couldn’t understand why his daughter, Adrienne, would defy him at such lengths. Was this her way to avenge the mistreatment she and her mother experienced at his hands? However, if he agreed to help Adrienne back then, he feared that the curse of death would befall him and his family.
Lewis had always been a superstitious man, believing in the power of curses and karma. It was why, when their family invited a wandering monk and read divinity on his daughter, deeming her bearer of the ’star of calamity’, Lewis had started distancing himself from Adrienne.
No matter how he looked at her, he couldn’t shake off the feeling of unease and impending doom. Lewis’s fear of the curse grew stronger with each passing day, making him hesitant to offer any assistance to Adrienne, even though he couldn’t deny the mistreatment she endured.
But Lewis couldn’t understand. How could a person born under the cursed star live a prosperous life and find happiness? He had heard tales of people who had suffered from such curses, and their lives had been filled with tragedy and misfortune. It seemed impossible that Adrienne could defy her fate of dying young, but what about his Jiang family?
How could Adrienne live a life untouched by the curse while his family suffered so greatly? Lewis’s mind was consumed with these questions, causing him to question the very nature of fate and destiny. He couldn’t help but wonder if Adrienne possessed some hidden secret or power, allowing her to escape the clutches of the curse.
In his quest to find answers, Lewis tried to locate the same monk they met many years ago. It took him some time to find his whereabouts, but eventually, Lewis could track down the monk in a remote monastery deep in the mountains.
The wise and serene monk listened attentively to Lewis’s inquiries and nodded knowingly. He explained that while fate and destiny may seem immutable, they are not absolute.
"There must be a mistake. You said my daughter was born under the cursed star and could cause death and misfortune to those around her. You also said they are destined to die young and alone, but that’s not what’s happening to Adrienne. Instead, it was my Jiang family who suffered loss and death for the past year." He complained to the monk.
The monk’s eyes softened as he understood Lewis’s frustration. "Sometimes, the path of destiny can be altered," he replied gently. "It is possible that the alignment of the stars at your daughter’s birth was misinterpreted. Perhaps someone’s presence has brought about a different outcome, shifting the course of fate for your family."
"How could this be?" Lewis muttered in disbelief, "Then what about my Jiang family? If Rosemary managed to avoid death, does it mean that fate befalls me?"
The monk looked at him for a moment, then shook his head.
"It’s not certain anymore. Since your daughter managed to change the course of her fate, she might have paid a price for it. Fate is a complex web, and altering one’s destiny often comes with consequences. It is important to tread carefully and be mindful of the choices we make."
Lewis furrowed his brows. What could Adrienne have done to change her fate? He couldn’t help but wonder if there was a way for him to alter his destiny as well.
"Then what should I do?" He desperately asked the monk for help.
The monk took a deep breath before responding; his voice filled with wisdom. "First, you must accept that some things are beyond our control. But that doesn’t mean we are powerless. Focus on the present moment and make choices that align with your values and intuition. It would be better to stay away from your daughter if you want to preserve your life and not invite unnecessary danger. Remember, our actions have consequences; sometimes, the best course of action is to let go and trust in the natural flow of life. By accepting what we cannot change and making conscious choices, we can create a path that leads to a brighter future."
The monk’s words lingered in Lewis’ mind, urging him to reflect on the potential repercussions of tampering with fate. However, given how much his Jiang family lost over the past year, Lewis couldn’t help but feel a strong desire to take control of his destiny.
The thought of potentially breaking free from the cycle of misfortune and rebuilding their lives filled him with hope and determination, and the only way to free himself and his family from their misfortune was to get rid of Adrienne from the picture.
Lewis believed their lives would have taken a different path, one filled with success and prosperity, if not for her. He couldn’t help but blame Adrienne for the series of unfortunate events that had befallen his family, fueling his determination to remove her from their lives.
