Reborn Young Miss: Phoenix Burning Red-Chapter 471: Adrian Han (1)
Alistair looked at Adrienne in shock. Did she despise him so much that she would rather choose death than be with him?
Adrienne pressed the sharp shard against her neck, and it drew a trickle of blood down her skin. She remained unfazed by Alistair’s horrified expression, her eyes filled with a haunting determination. Alistair’s heart sank as he realized the depth of the desperate measures she was willing to take.
Alistair laughed mirthlessly.
"You want to die? How about Lennox Qin? I thought you would rather stay with him?"
Adrienne’s grip on the shard tightened, her voice trembling as she responded, "Lennox is the love of my life. But don’t think for a second that I would choose you over death."
Alistair’s face darkened further, his mind racing to find a way to convince her otherwise.
"Fine," Alistair spat out, his voice filled with venom. "You want to play these games, huh? Very well. Lennox Qin—the one you claim to love so much. I would make sure to destroy him completely. See if you would want to stay with him after that." His eyes gleamed with malicious intent.
Adrienne’s hold on the shard faltered. This revelation sent shivers down her spine. She knew Lennox’s life was in danger, and her heart ached at the thought of him suffering because of her actions.
"You wouldn’t do that," she pleaded, her voice barely a whisper. "You can’t... it’s just a threat."
Alistair sneered, his fingers curling around the hilt of his dagger. "Oh, Adrienne, you’re a fool," he sneered. "Believe me; I have the means and the motivation to do this. If you don’t change your mind, this ends only one way. Your choice."
"I would still choose him even if he has nothing." Adrienne looked at Alistair with hatred in her eyes. She didn’t know what she’d seen in this man in her previous life when he was selfish and terrible.
"You’ve pushed me too far, Adrienne. I won’t let you leave me like this without a fight."
As Alistair spoke, his eyes seemed to glow with an eerie intensity, and Adrienne realized that she may have underestimated the depths of his anger and obsession. She knew she had to act fast if she was to save both Lennox and herself. However, she also knew she had to buy Hunter some time before they could execute their plan.
"Do you think I’m joking? You can’t change my mind about you, Mr. Han. You only prove I made the right choice by choosing Lennox over you."
Her collar was now tainted with her blood, and Alistair’s rage flared, seeing that she was determined to defy him even if she was cornered.
"If you go through with this plan, I promise you, I’ll make you pay."
Alistair stared at her, his eyes narrowing into slits. It seemed like he was considering her offer for a moment, but then he burst out laughing.
"You think you can bargain with me? You’re out of your mind, Adrienne. But go ahead and make your choice. I would like to see what you could do to stop me. Your beloved Lennox Qin is nothing more than a hollow shell to me. I have connections and the power to make your sweetheart’s life and heart shatter into a thousand pieces. I’ll make him lose every dream and hope he ever had. And then, when you see the man you claim to love in that state, you may understand what you’re giving up."
Adrienne’s grip on the shard faltered for a moment, uncertainty clouding her face. Alistair could see the struggle in her eyes—the conflict between her devotion to Lennox and the fear of him getting hurt because of her.
Adrienne’s cheeks flushed with anger, and she squeezed the shard tighter.
"You’re just bluffing. "
"Well, at least I’m not suicidal," Alistair retorted. "You should probably reconsider your actions, Adrienne. You don’t want to end up in the news as a tragic love story gone wrong."
"If you dare to lay a hand on me, I swear I will kill myself."
The fact that Alistair was threatening her proved he hadn’t done anything yet to strike against her husband. But the more he spoke, the more determined Adrienne became. She knew she had to protect Lennox, even if it meant risking her own life. Alistair would dare to allow her to die. If she hadn’t seen how it drove him insane after learning about her passing in her previous life, Adrienne wouldn’t dare put her life at stake. 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞
"You wouldn’t dare," he sneered.
"But I will," Adrienne replied, her voice steady and determined. "I’d rather take the coward’s way out than let you hurt Lennox or my family."
Alistair’s face twisted into a sneer. "You think you can threaten me with suicide? I can’t even remember the last time I shed a tear for someone’s death. "
Adrienne laughed at him mockingly.
"Oh, I don’t doubt that. I’m sure you didn’t mourn your wife’s sudden passing because you had a hand in her death." She spat venomously.
Alistair let out a mocking laugh, his eyes gleaming with malice. He hated how Adrienne showed her trust and devotion to Lennox. He felt she was tainted and ruined by another man, which only fueled his rage.
"Oh, Adrienne, you have no idea what I’m capable of. Do you think that by threatening me, you can scare me away? I have been planning this for years, and now I am finally in reach of my goal. I will have Lennox Qin’s destruction, whether you like it or not."
"You won’t get away with this." She sneered at him.
Alistair sneered back, his face twisted into a snarl.
"Oh, I don’t doubt that. But I have the upper hand, Adrienne. I have the power, the resources, and the motivation. And most importantly, I have the patience. I’ve waited years for this moment and won’t let anything stop me now."
"Lennox will never give up on us. He loves me more than anything in the world."
Alistair scoffed. "Love is a fickle thing, Adrienne. You’ll see that when you lose everything."
And with those words, Alistair walked past her, leaving her behind.
