Reborn Young Miss: Phoenix Burning Red-Chapter 475: Divorce Is Not an Option (1)
"Addie should have waited for my call. She shouldn’t have agreed to come to Alistair Han on her own." Hunter said as his grip on the steering wheel tightened at the thought of the danger his sister faced.
"I couldn’t change her mind," Lennox replied as he sat impatiently next to the driver’s seat. "She was shaken upon seeing how distressed Myrtle was yesterday."
"Don’t do anything stupid later, Lennox. I cannot assure your safety. Allow the police to apprehend Alistair Han. It’s already bad enough we’re bringing you with us, but I know Addie needs you." Hunter reminded him as they continued to drive through the winding streets of the city, the night sky looming above them like a shroud.
Lennox nodded, his eyes fixed on the road ahead, his brow furrowed with worry. He understood the gravity of the situation and knew that taking matters into his own hands could potentially make things worse. He had to trust in the authorities to handle Alistair Han and focus on being there for Adrienne, who needed him now more than ever.
"I understand, Hunter. I’ll stay out of harm’s way. Addie needs all of us right now, and I won’t let anything happen to her."
Hunter glanced at his brother-in-law. There were many things he didn’t like about Lennox Qin, but there was something he couldn’t deny. Lennox’s devotion to Adrienne was unquestionable. Ever since they had met, Lennox had been there for Adrienne through thick and thin, always putting her needs before his own. It was a rare quality that Hunter had come to respect over time. Despite their differences, Lennox had proven himself to be a loyal and protective husband.
As they sped towards Alistair Han’s mansion, Hunter’s mind raced with possible scenarios. He couldn’t help but feel responsible for the danger that Adrienne was about to face. If only he hadn’t encountered some delay, if only he had taken Alistair’s threats seriously from the beginning, his sister wouldn’t have put her safety at stake.
They arrived at the darkened street where the villa stood, eerily silent in the night. The moon hung low in the sky, casting long shadows that seemed to dance around them as they approached the imposing gates.
Hunter parked the car a distance away, opting for a stealthier entrance. They couldn’t afford to alert Alistair or his men. He turned off the engine, and the two of them stepped out of the car, blending into the darkness like phantoms. As they approached Alistair’s secluded mansion on the outskirts of town, a sense of foreboding settled over them. The once grand estate now stood shrouded in darkness, its imposing presence seemingly warning them to turn back. But Hunter had no intention of retreating. He knew the danger that lurked within those walls, and failure was not an option.
The police stepped out of their cars, their footsteps echoing through the silence of the night. The moon cast an eerie glow on the deserted grounds, as if nature itself sensed the impending battle. Hunter’s heart pounded in his chest as the leader of the troop led the way towards the mansion’s entrance while he and Lennox stood behind.
The villa was larger than Hunter had ever imagined, its elegant architecture contrasting sharply with the malevolence that resided within. The moonlight illuminated the grand entrance, its double doors seemingly inviting them into a world of secrets and treachery. The police immediately immobilized any guards in sight and removed them from the premises discreetly. Even if Alistair found out they were there, it would be difficult for him to escape this time.
As they approached the entrance, a sudden gust of wind swept through the courtyard, sending shivers down Hunter’s spine. It felt as though unseen eyes were watching their every move, calculating their every step. The tension in the air was palpable, causing Lennox to cast a worried glance at Hunter. 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢
"Are you sure about this?" Lennox whispered, his voice barely carrying over the rustling leaves.
Hunter glanced at his brother-in-law, his expression resolute despite the unease that settled within him.
"The police want to apprehend Alistair Han at all costs. He managed to slip out of their hands once and they couldn’t allow it to happen again. We also don’t have other choices, Lennox. Addie is in there, and we can’t leave her to face this alone."
Lennox nodded solemnly, understanding the gravity of the situation. He also didn’t think he could return home without his wife. Together, they followed the police leader towards the entrance, their footsteps echoing through the cavernous hallway as they ventured deeper into the villa. The interior was dimly lit with flickering candles, casting dancing shadows upon the ornate walls adorned with priceless paintings. The air smelled musty and stale. While it was beautiful, it was cold and lifeless.
Lennox wondered if this was the same home Adrienne lived in for so many years in her previous life with Alistair. As they crept further into the mansion, Lennox’s senses sharpened, every nerve on high alert. The sound of their footsteps seemed to reverberate through the empty halls, serving as a reminder of their intrusion into Alistair Han’s domain. The silence was suffocating, broken only by the distant whisper of wind seeping through the cracks in the windows.
The police leader held up a hand, signaling for them to stop. His eyes darted around the dimly lit corridor, searching for any signs of danger. The tension was palpable as they waited, their breaths held in anticipation.
"Clear," the police leader muttered under his breath, motioning for them to move forward once again.
They continued their stealthy advance through the mansion, each room they entered revealing more of Alistair’s twisted and macabre tastes. Dark paintings adorned with eerie figures leered back at them from the walls. Antique furniture held an air of forgotten time and secrets long buried.
Suddenly, men dressed in black suits arrived and fought with the police officers to stop them from going any further. Alistair must be aware of their unwanted presence in his home. Lennox feared he would escape, taking his wife with him. They couldn’t afford to lose her in the midst of this madness. It was imperative that they reach her before Alistair had a chance to escape.
The room erupted in chaos as the police officers clashed with Alistair’s men. The sound of fists meeting flesh and grunts of exertion filled the air, mixing with the crashing of furniture and shattering glass. Hunter and Lennox found themselves caught in the middle, instinctively defending themselves against the onslaught. Lennox’s heart raced as he fought off an attacker, his mind solely focused on Adrienne’s safety. Each blow he delivered was fueled by determination and desperation.
With a determined grimace, Hunter gestured for Lennox to follow him down a dimly lit hallway. They moved swiftly, navigating the labyrinthine mansion with a sense of urgency. As they turned a corner, their eyes widened at the sight before them. A grand staircase stretched out in front, leading up to the upper floors, where Alistair likely held his captive. A flickering chandelier cast an eerie glow, illuminating the scene below.
The second level was deserted, and Hunter silently opened the doors of each room with a gun in his hand. Fearful servants lurked in the shadows, their eyes pleading for silence. He knew they were not to be trusted and moved with caution. Finally, after what felt like an eternity of relentless pursuit, they reached a door at the end of a long corridor. Hunter’s heart skipped a beat as he recognized it—it was Alistair’s private study.
He cautiously opened the door, expecting Alistair to see inside, but it was unoccupied. The man was nowhere in sight, but Hunter didn’t dare to lower his guard as he took a good look at what was spread on the table.
Lennox remained outside the room, glancing around for possible threats that were lurking in the shadows. His eyes darted from corner to corner, his senses heightened as he scanned the dimly lit corridor. The silence was deafening, amplifying the tension in the air. He knew that danger could strike at any moment, and he remained on high alert, ready to spring into action at a moment’s notice.
Papers were scattered everywhere, as if the man had been in a hurry. There was a telephone on the desk, lying on its side as if thrown there. Hunter felt a wave of relief and dread at the same time. Adrienne was not there, but the fact that Alistair was not present was an opportunity to gather evidence that could be used against him.
Meanwhile, Lennox was starting to get restless. The longer it took them to rescue his wife, the more anxious Lennox became. He slid his hand behind him and touched his gun. He brought an unregistered gun with him. Lennox knew Hunter would disapprove of his actions, but he was willing to do whatever it took to protect his wife.
If things went south, Lennox wouldn’t hesitate to put a bullet in Alistair’s brain in order to save Adrienne. Lennox knew the possibility that he might lose Adrienne because of it, but he would happily pay the price if committing murder meant she would be safe in the future. There would be no Alistair Han who would threaten her life ever again.
Seeing that his brother-in-law was still preoccupied gathering evidence from Alistair’s study, Lennox decided to take matters into his own hands and stealthily took the stairs leading to the next floor.
