Chapter 491: When All Hope Is Lost (1)

Adrienne watched as her husband loaded Noah’s belongings into the car. Their son was now seventeen, and Noah decided to stay in the dormitory of the exclusive school he was attending in Jinling. She couldn’t help but feel sad thinking about an empty nest because he was the last of Lennox’s siblings to leave their home.

"Mom, don’t be sad. I’ll still come home for weekends and school breaks." Noah wrapped his arms around her and gave her a reassuring squeeze.

Noah was a head taller than her now. She wouldn’t have believed it if someone had told her years ago that her little boy would grow up so fast. Others would have mistakenly assumed they were siblings and not mother-and-son, considering their ages were so close compared to typical ones.

Adrienne smiled, grateful for his comforting words. Deep down, she knew this was a natural part of Noah’s journey toward independence, but the pang of emptiness still lingered in her heart. She knew she had to let go and allow him to spread his wings.

"Just promise me you’ll take care of yourself, and remember that you can always come back home." She told Noah.

Noah nodded, understanding the mix of emotions in his mother’s voice. It was the first time he would live independently, and he was both excited and nervous about the new Chapter in his life.

"I promise, Mom," he said, his voice filled with determination. "I’ll give you a call once I settle into my new place and get everything sorted out. You’ll always be my home, no matter where I am."

Adrienne’s eyes welled up with tears as she hugged Noah tightly, proud of the young man he had become. She whispered, "I love you, Noah," before finally letting go. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢

Noah gave her a soft smile and a reassuring squeeze before turning to gather his belongings. As he walked towards the door, he couldn’t help but feel a mixture of excitement and nervousness for the new Chapter ahead.

Lennox joined his wife and placed a hand on her waist before kissing her cheek.

"I’m going to give Noah a ride. Are you sure you don’t want to come with us?" He asked.

Adrienne shook her head. She was feeling under the weather these days and preferred to stay home and rest. She knew Noah was ready for this new adventure and wanted to give him the space he needed to embrace it fully. Lennox understood her decision and gave her a gentle kiss on the forehead before heading out with Noah. Adrienne watched them disappear into the distance as they drove away, her heart filled with pride and a tinge of sadness.

She decided to finish some work in her office while waiting for her husband’s return. After celebrating their wedding anniversary two months ago, they had been busy with work as her business continued to expand under Lennox’s guidance.

As Adrienne sat at her desk, she couldn’t help but reflect on how much their lives had changed since marriage. The days seemed to blur together, filled with school runs, practices, and family dinners. Now, with Noah gone, she was reminded of how fast time had flown by.

She glanced at the family photos on her desk, each capturing a precious memory. The images of Lennox and his siblings brought a bittersweet smile to her face. All of them were doing well in their lives and pursuing a career they wanted.

Samantha was currently busy attending law school, while Scarlett had just recently made her debut as a singer under StarMedia’s management. The twins, Vaughn and Vincent, rarely come home, but Adrienne remained in touch with them while Liam hadn’t been in the country for years as he was busy with one racing competition after another.

With Noah also moving out, Adrienne would be left alone in her husband’s company. Although she knew this only meant she could spend more time with Lennox, she couldn’t shake off the feeling of emptiness that settled in her heart. It was as if a piece of their once bustling home was now missing, never to be fully replaced.

As Adrienne continued to work, she realized that it was not just Noah’s absence that she was grappling with. It was the inevitable passage of time—the realization that her husband’s siblings were no longer children but adults who were forging their own paths in the unknown. She felt that she needed to accept that she would spend the next few years with her husband’s company.

After finishing her work an hour later, Adrienne decided to take a nap in their room as she waited for her husband’s return. She wasn’t in the mood to do anything these days but sleep and eat.

As Adrienne lay on the bed, her eyes heavy with exhaustion, she couldn’t help but drift into a dream-like state. In her slumber, she found herself transported back in time to the early years of their marriage when their love was new and vibrant.

When she woke up from her nap, Adrienne found her husband seated beside her on their bed, and the sky was already dark. She slowly woke up from her sleep and wrapped her arms around Lennox.

"You should wake me up when you arrive."

Lennox smiled softly at her, his eyes filled with love and tenderness.

"You must have been exhausted," he said gently, brushing a strand of hair behind her ear. "I’m glad you got some rest."

Adrienne nodded, still feeling a bit disoriented from her dream. "I must have dozed off," she murmured before yawning.

"Are you feeling okay, my love?" Lennox asked with a hint of tenderness in his tone. He was already in his late thirties, but Adrienne thought he was as dashing as the day she married him.

Adrienne nodded, feeling a sense of calm wash over her as she looked into her husband’s eyes. "I think I just needed a moment to rest and gather my thoughts. It’s been an emotional day."

Lennox wrapped his arms around her, pulling her close.

"I understand," he whispered. "You are used to having the children around, and now that they are gone, the house suddenly feels empty."

Adrienne couldn’t agree more with him.

"They are growing up so fast," Lennox continued, his voice tinged with emotion. "But I have faith in them. And in us. I’m confident we’ve prepared them well for whatever lies ahead."

Adrienne reached out and took his hand in hers, intertwining their fingers.

"I do, too," she whispered softly. "I just hope they will be fine."
