Reborn Young Miss: Phoenix Burning Red-Chapter 492: When All Hope Is Lost (2)
Adrienne felt sick. She hadn’t felt ill for a long time, which caught her completely off guard. The sudden onset of nausea and weakness made her worry about what could be causing it. She woke up from her slumber before her husband. The sky was still dark, and the early morning silence amplified her unease. Adrienne couldn’t shake off the feeling that something was not right.
As she sat up in bed, she felt a need to relieve herself and use the bathroom. Adrienne didn’t want to wake Lennox up and make him worry for nothing. She quietly slipped out of bed and tiptoed towards the bathroom, hoping that a visit to the restroom would alleviate her discomfort.
However, as she entered the dimly lit hallway, a wave of dizziness washed over her, causing her to stumble slightly. Concerned now more than ever, Adrienne couldn’t help but wonder if this was just a passing illness or something more serious.
She stopped before the bathroom counter and looked at her reflection in the massive mirror. She noticed the pale complexion and dark circles under her eyes. It also seemed she had lost some weight despite not having changed her diet or exercise routine.
A thought flashed through her mind, and Adrienne went still. She didn’t want to think she was pregnant, but the signs were becoming harder to ignore.
After losing the third embryo, Adrienne couldn’t bear the thought of another failed pregnancy. Every time she lost an embryo, a piece of her heart broke. She begged Lennox for them to stop getting any more treatments to get pregnant, as she couldn’t bear to experience another heartbreak.
Adrienne accepted that she might never conceive a child, but Lennox couldn’t bear the thought of giving up hope completely. They stopped getting IVF treatments but continued to be sexually active.
Adrienne rubbed the spot between her brows. She and Lennox were like newlyweds and rabbits in heat, as they couldn’t keep their hands from each other. Without his siblings around, Lennox made love to her at every chance they had, their activities not limited to the confinement of their bedroom. They explored every inch of each other’s bodies, finding pleasure in places they had never imagined before.
Their intimacy deepened over the months, and Adrienne began to feel more connected to Lennox than ever before. Each time they made love, she felt as though they were rekindling their love, the passion igniting the flame in their marriage.
Adrienne decided to take a pregnancy test. It hadn’t been her first time taking one, but her past tests only led to disappointment. She didn’t want to be hopeful this time. If the test returned negative, she would ask Lennox to bring her to the hospital in the morning.
But as she stood in front of the bathroom counter, her hands shook uncontrollably. She glanced at the pregnancy test on the counter, the one she had taken so many times before. Those two pink lines had always been a cruel joke, taunting her with false hopes and shattered dreams.
But something inside her knew that things were different this time. The symptoms—the dizziness, paleness, and weight loss—all pointed towards something significant. She was trying so hard not to hope, but her heart was already pounding with anticipation.
She took a deep breath and slowly unwrapped the pregnancy test. As she urinated into the small container, she could feel her heart racing. The minutes seemed to drag on, but finally, she looked down at the tiny window. There it was - the faintest line, but a line nonetheless.
Adrienne couldn’t believe it. It was positive. She stood there in disbelief, trying to wrap her head around the fact that maybe, just maybe, she was going to be a mother. Tears of joy rolled down her cheeks as she stared at the tiny blue plus sign. She wondered if she was dreaming or if this was a false positive, only to crush all their hopes later.
Lennox woke up and squinted his eyes as he glanced at the time on their bedside table. He reached out an arm on his wife’s side but found it empty. Confused, Lennox sat up and called out for Adrienne. He received no response. Panic began to well up inside him as he swung his legs over the side of the bed and stumbled towards the bathroom. The door was slightly ajar, and the soft glow of the light spilled out into the hallway.
Lennox pushed the door open and froze in his tracks at the sight before him. Adrienne stood there, staring down at something in her hands. Her cheeks were streaked with tears, but her eyes had undeniable radiance. Lennox’s heart skipped a beat as he noticed the pregnancy test clutched tightly in her trembling fingers.
His voice caught in his throat as he whispered, "Addie?"
She turned to face him, her tearful smile reaching deep into his soul. Without saying a word, she held out the test to him, her hand shaking noticeably.
Lennox’s eyes widened as he saw the small blue plus sign on the test. His breath hitched, overwhelmed with a mixture of disbelief and pure elation. He closed the distance between them in a few swift strides and wrapped Adrienne tightly in his arms.
Tears streamed down both their faces as they clung to each other in a world that suddenly felt full of hope and possibility. They had endured so much heartache and loss on their journey to conceive a child, but it seemed they got the little miracle he’d been praying for.
Adrienne had already lost hope of getting pregnant, but not Lennox. His wife was only thirty-two, and the doctors were optimistic she could still get a successful pregnancy.
"We’re going to have a baby?" He said tearfully.
"We’re going to have a baby, Addie." He repeated, hugging his wife tightly.
Adrienne pulled away and looked at him with disbelief and a flicker of fear for the uncertain future ahead.
"But what if it was a false pregnancy again?" She asked. "What if I’m not pregnant?"
Lennox pressed kisses to Adrienne’s forehead, cheeks, and lips, each filled with promises of unwavering support and unconditional love.
"We can confirm it with a blood test. I’m sure it’s not a false positive this time."
Are you sure? I mean...we’ve been through so much disappointment before." Adrienne said in return.
Lennox could understand her fear and uncertainty. He had seen firsthand the toll that repeated failed pregnancies had taken on Adrienne, both physically and emotionally. But this time felt different. Something deep within him told him this was their moment, their chance at happiness.
"Addie, I know it’s scary," Lennox said softly, his voice reassuring. "But we can’t let fear dictate our lives. We’ve been through so much together and always found the strength to keep moving forward. This could be our miracle."
Adrienne nodded, her eyes glistening with a mix of hope and trepidation. Because if she was truly pregnant, then she wanted this child more than anything in the world. She had dreamed of becoming a mother for so long, and now that it seemed within reach, she couldn’t help but feel a surge of joy and anticipation. But the fear of another heartbreak loomed over her like a dark cloud.
"I want to believe," Adrienne whispered, her voice shaky. "I want to believe that this is finally our time."
Lennox tightened his grip around her, drawing strength from their embrace. He was also worried but knew he needed to be strong for Adrienne’s sake.
"We’ll take it one step at a time," he said gently. "Let’s get the blood test done, and whatever the result may be, we’ll face it together."
Nodding slowly, Adrienne wiped away her tears and took a deep breath. She was determined to be hopeful, to trust in the possibility of a future that included the pitter-patter of little feet and the joyous chaos of parenthood. Lennox was right - they had always found a way to persevere through the darkest moments, and this would be no different.
