Reincarnated As A Lion In Another World-Chapter 181: Greed
At the center of the now stable whirlpool, down in the deep sea, a two hundred meters wide portal formed that connected the world to an unknown place.
The gates had been opened and there were no guards present to restrict anyone from going in.
From the other side of the portal, light poured out and contaminated the waters with its illuminating effects, causing a mystical scenery to unfold before their eyes.
It now looked like the part of the sea that formed the whirlpool was glowing. The glow was very noticeable during this day, even though the sun was up.
It was a dreamy scene that one would only imagine but never think of seeing in his or her life. It was such a beautiful scene that the octopuses and squids looked at it in a dazed state, shocked at how something could look so…magnificent.
Beneath the surface of the water, it looked like a glowing watery tornado, very attractive and beautiful.
"GO NOW!" One of the octopus leaders, a large tentacled freak of nature, shouted at the top of his telepathic voice. He himself didn't move but he urged his numerous weaker kinds to go forward.
The octopuses, naturally being cautious, did not swim into the whirlpool immediately, they swam around the edges, moving around the region that could draw them in.
Then one of the Octopuses became a bit careless and moved too close to the region with a strong drawing force. He waved his tentacles around and instinctively released ink into the water but it didn't do anything apart from speed up his descent.
He had already resigned himself to his fate, he had seen Squids and Octopuses dying after being drawn into this watery vortex, he was already sure that his case would be the same. This was where this watery grave would be, he was sure of it.
Then, nothing happened…nothing.
The octopuses stared with surprise as their comrade spun within the vortex, going deeper and deeper into the whirlpool and getting close to the deep portal.
Soon, he was completely out of sight for all watching from above, and eventually, those who could sense his presence no longer sensed it, the octopus had passed through the portal unharmed.
This peculiar turn of events led to a suffocating silence that was more drowning than the watery abyss itself.
It occurred strangely, like a dam within a dam had been opened, and out flowed all the savagery and greed that could have ever existed.
As soon as the squids noticed that there was no longer anything stopping them from moving into the whirlpool, they surged forth like a tide of tentacles, one after the other.
With some as long as a bus and some as small as two meters, none of them were less than a tier 2 wolf in power level.
One after the other, they allowed themselves to be taken by the overwhelming force of the whirlpool pool, spinning in circles as they sank deeper and closer to the portal.
The leaders could already taste the treasures they would get and could barely control themselves from acting out from a mix of excitement and violence.
The octopuses of course didn't just 'stand' by and watch all this happen. They moved out immediately, rushing into the whirlpool as though it wasn't a spinning machine of death a few moments ago.
As the two factions of the aquatic world spun within the whirlpool, they experienced a moment of close proximity that resulted in the immediate initiation of a fight.
They had not even left the top half of the vortex and a battle unlike any other erupted between the two forces.
Tentacles intertwined with each other as octopuses tried to tear squids to pieces and the squids were doing the same.
This portal was the main reason why they were fighting in the first place, it was the main reason why they had progressed so much and gathered so many of their kind under the same banner and purpose.
One of the leaders, a squid with a body that was covered in a metallic glint, waved his eight tentacles in the water as he rushed out like the embodiment of slaughter. At the end of each of his tentacles were metal hooks that easily pierced and cut the octopuses that were in his way.
A master of ambush and deceit, he was. He would spew a cloud of dark blue ink, blinding his enemies and whizzing past them, leaving nothing but severed limbs and split heads behind him.
Not just him, powerful octopuses and squids from both sides were moving around, killing the opposition in the dozens. The goal was simple: reduce their numbers so that they had little advantage in numbers once they crossed the portals.
By the time they had gone halfway down the vortex, the whirlpool was filled with spilled ink and floating severed tentacles. Several squids and octopuses had died in a short amount of time.
Now, the glowing whirlpool had a large amount of ink mixed in it, and that made it take on a darker, ominous appearance.
"Look at these vermin," Thawne said as he stared down from the top of the magic shuttle. The wind up here blew his blonde hair to the back, bringing out his handsome face and giving him a heroic visage.
"They're scrambling to claim powers that don't belong to them, very careless," Alora said.
"You can't blame them, they are savages and have no one to teach the way things should be," The green-haired man with a singular horn on his head said.
"Let's make a bet, none of them are going to come out alive. They don't even know what they are getting into.
They should have sent scouts in to test the waters first," Another youth said.
"Not really, the portal can close anytime. We lions are the only ones who know what is in there, they don't. To them, the scouts could steal the treasure for themselves and who knows what would happen if the portal closed unexpectedly." Baba commented.
"Greed," The big guy among them said one word, and the rest just nodded their heads.
To them, there may be something in this pocket dimension that warranted their greed to show, but the main goal was the heavenly beacon.
None of them desired to keep the heavenly beacon for themselves, at least, they didn't see any reason to do so. Their mission was to retrieve the item for the lion kings.
If anyone was going to think of keeping a heavenly beacon for himself, it would be Xu Ying, and that was only because he just found out that there might be more than one.
But even Xu Ying was cautious, offending his lion king was one thing, offending the other lion kings was a whole other disaster.
"They're gone," Xu Ying said at this time. His face was still mostly expressionless and his eyes were filled with mysterious calculations.
All the squids and octopuses had gone down the vortex and had all disappeared into the portal, both the dead and those that were still alive.
Now, many aquatic creatures that had been waiting and watching from afar started closing in on the portal with clear intentions. If the squids and octopuses could enter the portal, it must be safe.
Herd mentality plus greed, a strong mix that even the most clear-headed of these monsters could not resist.
Sharks, sea serpents, seahorses, whales, and even some water lions, Their numbers were many and overwhelming.
The movement of so many powerful aquatic beasts all heading in one direction caused multiple large waves to rise and fall.
Seeing this, Xu Ying spoke, "27," he called.
"Yes master," 27, the rat man in charge of the rat slaves answered telepathically from within the magic shuttle.
"In case Kael comes after we have gone, you know what to say?" Xu Ying asked. This was a private conversation so Alora and the others did not hear it.
"Yes Master," 27 replied, careful to make sure his tone was as submissive as possible.
"I've set up the Safe Recall System with Isaiah as the engine, if you find yourself in danger, just activate the rune on your body," Xu Ying said, this time to the twelve youths.
They all nodded, some of them brushed the rune etched on their body with their fingers. Xu Ying was truly a genius, this was the main reason why he never killed Isaiah, the space crane still had some use.
By this time, Xu Ying and the youths were all standing side by side at the edge of the magic shuttle, looking like they were ready to jump.
"27, drop them," Xu Ying commanded.
27, who stood inside the command bridge in front of multiple screens, immediately tapped a button on the panel in front of him.
Multiple hatches under the floating magic shuttle opened up. Out from these hatches, more than two hundred large rats dropped down into the spinning water vortex.
Each rat that came out of these hatches had an exploding rune etched on its back, the same that had been etched on the rats that attacked Kael's mountain.
Two hundred suicide rats who, upon death, would explode with enough force to kill or cripple a tier 3 wolf.
Xu Ying could not help but wear a devious smile on his face.
